And there is a religious challenge, kill all of the blasphemers, but you may need to pick the patron god.
It's so much like real life, including the devious plots to become the only one, and the other one that just eats your money, and makes you a slave OR ELSE!!!

Am I the only one who suspects your going to put the new Immigrant zone of your fort in a room that can be filled with lava at will?

Your points on assigning tasks and possibly missing the immigrants is valid but I think a zone is a poor way to address it, how about the first immigrant in the stream goes to your leader/mayor and presents him with a list of the names of all the new immigrants so they can become become official 'citizens' of your fort.  You get a pop up like that which occurs when a diplomat meets with your mayor, the pop up shows said list of migrants and you can assign labor and rooms at that time
You just gave us the idea, thank you, I now completely support this.

i have a serious problem.
i have become bored of dwarf fortress.
does anyone have any advice on how to curb this strange boredom of this awesome game?
Blot out the sun, and have that giant ceiling collapse.

Fed a noble into a dwarfapult, and watch him die.

Play CTH ( fully decked out with firing siege dwarves, and traps.

Set fire to your fort.

Attack all of your remaining merchants with flaming cats.

Let loose demons in your nobles'/pests' housings.

Make your WHOLE fort cave-in.

Flood your fort.

Flood your fort with lava.

Unlock the bulkheads that are used to seperate you from the siegers.

Make all nobles tantrum in one isolated area, stocked with food and booze via bridge locks from above.

Use your Drownery/Water Lock.

Use lava for your Drownery/Water Lock.

Urist Mcdwarf has been ecstatic lately. He witnessed a green skin fall to his death recently.
He admired a fine glass shaft. He kicked a kobold into a pit lately.
He also enjoyed kicking that bastard purple duchy down the shaft.

Well that solves a lot of my original questions, now 've got two more:

Can somone post a link on artificial construct building tutorials(I've got a sliver of space in some areas of my moat with which to build the wall and at least once I'll need a walkway overhangiing my magma workshops).

And in addition: I've come to the conclusion that I am starting to get sick and tired of looking at sand. So if I decide to build a glass conglomerate will I evetually start to see the end of the sand? or does it just spawn ad infinitium?

Press 'b', then 'C', and then select one of the following in that submenu. ( the said submenu is called the Constructions Menu )
