DF Suggestions / Re: Suggestion: Crafting Failures
« on: November 22, 2008, 12:20:07 am »
I THINK YOU ARE FUCKING INSANE!!!

Not only do we lose 75% of said made booze and food, we lose generally the forests, crafts, rocks, and supplies.

YOU ARE DEMANDING GENOCIDE!
It isn't fun when you lose you 78904t534789th fortress to failures at crafting!

I'd rather have a Fail quality ( or a quality penalty, depending on said person's skill level ) , and lowered chance of failure ( like 60-35% ( Literally ) in the novice skill area ) .

I've farmed many animals, including ferals.

I have yet to farm a GCS, or a feral GCS at that.

This kobold looks sooooo mischievious.  ;D
You should see the part when they try to reason out why a box is moving.

Aren't Spirits of fire too on fire for hand to hand?
Hmm, it seems like someone finally looked at that flaw with the sacrifice hero scheme.

OneRaven, why do you need make the rooms 2 x 3?

Spoiler: 3x3 Version (click to show/hide)

As has already been noted, once you get past the second or third iteration, you are losing too much space in the middle to be efficient.  Better it would be to drop multiple blocks and connect them on other levels.
You know you can RECYCLE the wasted space, for like say barracks, noble lodgings, and other uses.

[FragBuild:[How many per construction]] - As it says, it defines how many of said creature is needed to make a construction, you are being invaded by antpersons, they built a construction to get to your ventilation.

[Queen:[TargetAnimal]:[Amount]:[Clutch]:[TimeUnit]] - It makes the animal into a female queen, it gives birth to [TargetAnimal], and gives birth to [Amount] of clutches ( amount is determined by [Clutch] ) per [TimeUnit].

[QueenOther:[TargetAnimal]:[MaxAmount]:[Clutch]:[Chance]:[TimeUnit]] - This says if there is other types of Queen Spawn, and their chance, and clutch size, the [MaxAmount] defines it's maximum amount of clutches per [TimeUnit].

[GroundSerpent:[JumpPerZ]:[MaxDigDepth]:[DestroyGround]] - They act like Death Worm, [JumpPerZ] means how high they jump per how deep they dig, then ascend, and [MaxDigDepth] is selfexplanatory, [DestroyGround] 1 = yes, 0 =No.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Best trap hall ever?
« on: November 21, 2008, 02:20:09 am »
I like to use a safe approach, 5x wide hall, and is bordered by 2x  of empty space, then there is the 3z tall hall of marksmen, and at the end of the hall is the 'Pulter Brigade, who guard the alternate entrance ( only used by the survivors, said survivors either fall to their death, or get hunted down in Barrack Halls, or survive the fall and get a double dipping of hell ) .

I am planning on adding a triple bulkhead lock to trap them in the hell hall, the lazy bastards get to use the other entrance into the hall, via some bridges.

Masons are usually in the build grind, 24/7/52.

Stone Crafters need to focus on exportable goods.

And engravers need to smooth walls so they can egrave.

So, if you engrave a rough wall, you get a crude engraving.
And if you do it on a smooth one, you get an engraving.

So, X Your Suggestion X, XX Your Suggestion XX, DESTROYED!!!

But this is an early argument, so stick it back to me.

DF General Discussion / Re: The NEW Future of the Fortress

On that avenue can you set it so that if one of the two parts is lost the creature dies?

That's how it currently is, which makes hydrae a tad less dangerous than they should be.

I know, but if he changed it so they don't have to die Id like to have the option so you can set the measure of lethality on losing an organ even if the creature has multiple. For example:
-A human being without a kidney will live, but will have a lowered lifespan and an injured constitution
-A Hydra who loses a head is completely unimpeded as if nothing happened (Hydras really should have "No pain")
-A Two headed snake who loses a head will most likely die (I think)

But consider the case of Mike the Headless Chicken...
The strange thing is that Mike slept with his head, and somehow could still use it to crow, though it sounds really strange.

-"Just roll the dice and hate the game, KOBOLD."

I tried building a tower in a bottomless pit once, but it didn't work out so well. Turns out, you can't build down...

... y'know, this makes sense?

But now I can't stop giggling madly over the idea of a dwarf, dangling from a rope with a pick and a bucket of bricks in hand, frantically yelling up at his compatriots,

"GET MEH OUTTA HERE, LADS!  THE BATS!  THE BAAAATTS!!"
Build from the lowest z, then up.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Naps on Traps: A Children's Story.
« on: November 20, 2008, 02:04:56 am »
As Noble McNed went to bed, he neither notice the spider up ahead.
And poor old Ned was knocked dead in the head.

Then in the stealth of the night the cringing spider quickly got some binge.

As the spider's health died out so did the cringing dead Ned who got caught in a hinge.

As the story has unfolded, the story needs an end.
Like poor Nick the Dragon , a great one indeed, his life did, end.
With a nick in the neck, he hated the need, but he lost his lid, as it did him in.
Rampaging down the hall, as the walls knead, the Trap did him in, as did his loose lid.

(Poor attempt at Haiku. Don't even think I did it correctly.)

Hammers beat frantic
Churning out weapons faster
Goblins at the gates with swords

This is fun.
Just take two syllables off of the third line.
