DF General Discussion / Re: Rainseeker's Animal Sponsorship Drive

I still say we go for Ospreys and just enjoy ourselves when toady makes them hunt. Start a fort in a carp-rich area with ospreys and then just watch em get carries high in the sky and eaten. ^_______________________^

I mean, Ospreys live almost anywhere (not antarctica apparently) and has a diet composed of 99% fish.

Also, giant ospreys whould be pretty awesome as well. its diet consists of 99% drowning dwarves. =D

I notice that there are a fair few scavengers and detritivores on the list. If they get sponsors, will tags for that sort of behavior be most probably added? I'm envisioning a [DETRITIVORE_MEAT][DETRITVORE_PLANT][DETRITIVORE_ANY] set, which would be really cool.

On a related note, I've just sent an endorsement for Jackals.

That whould be awesome, having buzzards eat from corpses and your refuse stockpiles, the more rotting corpses, the more arrive...
And dwarves whould get bad thoughts from seeing loved ones gobbled up by buzzards.

Personally, I'm going for Osprey. Those blasted carps never knew what hit em! >=D

You put mom in the army?!

What have the poor little gobbos done to deserve that?! >=D

Just found this thread again after a few ages, and it is increasingly awesome! Love how I made my entire family go for the throne! "Oh, if you wanna kill her, please do, but GET THE THRONE! If you dont wanna, leave her be, but GET THE THRONE! </ragespit>"
I wonder what Jewlerette thinks of this...  =D

We need more military though, we cant have two heathens fighting for us. I mean, when they inevitably die, what will we do then? Look weak? NO WAY! D=<
At least mom is doing her duty. ;D

Setting up military and hunting has really become a pain in the neck with the new version.
Lotsa other goodies though, which more than makes up for it...

Is there any way to mark immigrants for squads like you could in 40d? Its a hassle these days, especially since dwarves skills are so varied...

Also, do you have to set up a squad for hunters?

Nice work so far!
I guess Khamero is just running around making increasingly less shitty engravings and more babies these days?  ;D

I wonder if I can convince Jewlerette to start up her own little personal guard, now that the queen is a bit shorthanded... Though you had the ending planned out already, right Mr Gimp?

It's a .rar file, a compressed file. use winrar from http://www.rarlab.com/ to uncompress it.

Whoo! Finally caught up to this thread, apparently I stopped getting updates on my mail and forgot all about these forums...   :-[

But now I'm back again, and as the only apparent dwarf in this fortress not having my lance blocked either! Just figures what I´d do if I got a noble in bed... =D

...I wonder if the other male dwarves around there are getting jealous?
I also wonder how me and Jewelettarette met? Must have been when the pyramid was finished...

OK, first off, things piled up and I forgot about this. I am terribly sorry, will upload save in next post and end it right here, I'm waaaaaaaay overdue. T_T

The new dam is done and flooding properly! Again, it was done ages ago, but I just found out. I congratulated the mechanics anyhow. Soon we can grow outdoor crops in a safe and sound manner! I dont know why Mosus dosent tell me stuff more often, I mean, we are such good friends... I think he resents me for having the REAL power in the fortress...
Maybe he knows of our relationship, Diary... But I have told nobody, not even my dearest wife, who seems giddy with excitement. She told me yesterday that my suprise is nearly done, so... I do hope its some more red ink, its very hard to get a hold of these days...

Also, the silk industry has taken its first stumbling steps! My plans to protect the silk spiders against the cats seems to be working! A donkey has gotten trapped between two doors, and it aint getting anywhere, which is proof enough that the system works! And if it dosent, it can be expanded! Diary, if you didint tell me these ideas, I dont know how this whould have ended!

3rd Limestone, 217
The posessed fisherdwarf suddenly gave a loud shriek of total, utter sadness, it pierced the very souls of the dwarves in the fortress, and they flocked to see what kind of banshee could make such a noise.

They found him by the magma forge he had claimed. A lone dwarf, with his back against the heavy anvil, tears dripping through his beard, a wailing sobbing echoing through the halls.
Nobody moved for several minutes, until the distraught dwarf got unsteadily up on his feet and walked away through the fort, his sobbing echoing as he went.

I dont expect him to recover anytime soon, Diary.

29th Limestone, 217
Traders just arrived. We had a meeting about it and decided to trade most what we wanted and give the rest as an offering to the king!

AN AMBUSH! CURSE THEM! Two groups so far, and Erush, one of our masonry legends, is right between them! Our marksdwarves are guarding the chasm from Giant cave swallowmen and the like!
And they are going for Erush!
HE IS SHOT! IN THE CHEST! IT LOOKS LIKE A PERFECT SHOT! THE BLOOD IS GUSHING OUT! DIARY, I'M GONNA BE SICK!

As the military dwarves rush on, they can only watch as Erush bleeds to death to the goblins cheer!
Their cheer ends quickly enough though, as the military dwarves flank them and tear them to pieces! My heart rejoiced by the view!
Quickly thereafter Mosus caught up to me and threw me down below again, telling me to get back to work. He has been so grumphy lately, he needs a diary like you to keep him company!

8th Sandstone, 217
Dear diary. It whould appear that things have taken quite a turn for the worst.
The farmers have told me that the ground outside is apparently not suitable to grow crops, even though the soil is perfectly muddy and nice. I mean, you just put the seeds in, right? How hard can it be?
But apparently, its hard enough...
Mosus came in and asked who´s idea this whole ordeal was.
Dont worry, Diary, I didint tell you what it was you!

21th Sandstone, 217
Goblins! Inside the fortress! One master thief nonetheless, which killed a kitten before... Eh... I think he just died... There was nobody near him when he died in any case... How very, very strange, Diary!

23rd Sandstone, 217
Mosus has gone all secretive on us. During one of the standard meetings, he just suddenly got all quiet, looked at us all suspiciously, and yelled "ITS A SECRET!!!" and then he stormed out.
Mosus is a very secretive dwarf indeed, Diary.
He then loudly proclaimed that -THIS- craftsdwarf workshop was indeed his and his alone, as if he was the lord and majesty the dwarf king himself!

28th Sandstone, 217
Mosus has begun his construction.

Apparently, the fisherdwarf died of starvation, and Mr Ham was mighty upset with this. He didint destory anything in his tantrum though, and he has calmed down now.

2nd Timber, 217
Mosus has created Toral An!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

4th Timber, 217
More engravings, and further diggings going on. I'm getting terribly bored by all this... I have no authority over these dwarves! I have to do something!

17th Timber, 217
Rakust, my dear wife unveiled her present for me! Its a small apartment near the chasm! I am so moved, a room for us two, and a smaller one for Khamero Jr! Now we can live together! But she said Mosus found out and proclaimed fortress rules. Either the rooms are assigned to legendary people, rented out or left empty. But she tricked him, my darling! We can still claim the livingroom! HAH! And she even made him promise that he whould keep it secret!
Now I'm gotta flex up! I'm gonna join the military and become a legendary champion! THAT will show Mosus! I will join the Royal Guard! That will be a feather in my helmet! I left my other duties to some peasant I met in the corridor. I dont have time for those PAPERS now...! I have sparring to do!

18th Timber, 217
It hurts so bad! Diary, I can only take it by thinking of you!

7th Moonstone, 217
Still a novice wrestler, but I'm getting better!

10th Moonstone, 217
As the only member, and current captain of the royal guard, I today said that we whould not stand by this any more, and we need a bigger dining room!
And diary, what'ya know, if they didint listen! Hah!
Sure, Mosus claimed that everyone said that and its time something was done with it, but I know him! This badge gives me the authority I lacked before!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

PS: I hate Mosus, that friggin overarchiever! He -always- gets all the glory! Damnit!

I wanna sign up!

Khamero/Khamera
Male preferred
Proffession: Hunter, ambusher, marksdwarf.

In such dangerous times, its good to be able to fight off the scourge that might attack us, and a good ranged fighter will be very useful then.
If you deem hunting too dangerous, just let him be a part of the militia, either training at a range or doing whatever.

Plans are not going accodringly, but things are moving on. Some updates left.

17th Malachite, 217
A Fisherdwarf has started talking in tounges, or so I was told. I'm not actually writing this on the 17th, I got to know about this on the 20th, but it happened the 17th. I think I'm getting left out in the decisionmaking. He then claimed a magma forge, kicking anyone in the groin who dares come close. Lav found this out the hard way when he tried to talk some sense into him.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

20th Malachite, 217
The fisherdwarf is just standing there, looking sad and speaking unutterable phrases in a mourning voice. Apparently he´s looking for alot of stuff, but cant get em.
I checked with the stocks, and apparently we have everything he wants, in several versions, but he wont do anything about it. Pity.

3rd Galena, 217
BABIES! New ones all the time! We have 46 of em now, and though they will be a useful part of the workforce one day, lets face it, they run around, scream and make the days just seem longer and longer...
Lots of playmates to little Khamero Junior though...
The fisherdwarf is still speaking in tounges. A group of military dwarves have been positioned there. I actually asked that to be done, only to find out that Mosus already had done that.
I feel like the other nobles are trying to shut me out of the decisionmaking...
