DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Megaprojects
« on: October 21, 2008, 09:47:54 pm »
Plan for first attempt: a 5 z-level high Mayan pyrimid kind of thing made of clear glass, intended to be a shrine to Armok. Fill the pit at the top with any captured creature, pull some levers and water mixed with blood will flow out, along the channels built on each z-level, and probably leading to a waterfall in the arena directly below the shrine. Not sure how far the blood could flow though.
Waterwheels and the central pump stack are completed. Trying to dam the nearby brook in order to make the entire underground area out of glass. Project now halted due to human siege, which was the result of a diplomat following my count into the drowning chamber.
(Those guys really are patient!)

Never played the 2d version. Kind of curious about many interesting features that I heard about, but I'm thinking there absence as temporary.

God damn it. This thread just made me imagine a bunch of dwarfs in gangsta style clothing, sun glasses, cap and pickaxes. If I actually knew how to draw it I would probably do so just for the sake of hilarity.

Last time when my glassmaker went fey, he sat in his bedroom despite having 8 magma glass furnaces available.
Until I built him a regular glass furnace.
The result? A f-word green glass vial!
Well, at least he went legendary.
The point is, having only magma furnaces might not work.

Strange. I'm quite sure I did a search before posting, but nothing. Wrong options perhaps.
Apparently a new version will be out in October, and people are suggesting making the game moddable on the forum (citing DF's txt files! ;D). It may never approach the level of complexity of DF, but, well, it's fun and creative enough.

Wow, exactly. Thanks!
So it wasn't completely top-down.... Whatever. It's been too long.

I think it was in the mid 90s when I played it. Back then I didn't even know much English, so naturally I couldn't remember the name. In the game you would rent a building and turn it into a factory. complete with conveyor belts, machines, offices and storage areas (which look like those small wooden platforms transported by forklifts). I still remember if you assign an office personnel to a machine, he or she might get stuck instide. Quite funny to look at, actually. The view was top-down. I'm pretty sure that I ran the game on Windows 95, although it was probably designed for 3.x.
Any ideas?

Heard of this a couple of years ago, but only got to play it recently. An interesting RPG set in ancient northern Europe. Your goal is simply to survive, by hunting, fishing, farming, etc. Don't forget to get warm for winter.
I actually ran into DF when someone on their forum mentioned it. Now that DF/M&B/URW are my top 3 games, but URW seems far less popular than the other two. It really deserves more.

Traps : Usually just at the entrance, cage followed by weapon. Never put any limits though.
Player Traps : Built a lot but never quite tested. I won't refrain from using them though.
Atom Smashers : Haven't tried.
Quantum Stockpiles : Only for getting stones out of areas to be flooded or sealed.
Crossbows : lots.
Modded Races : Haven't tried.
Modded World : Haven't tried.

I thought my first dragon being killed by 3 stone traps was lame....

DF General Discussion / Your most anticlimatic moment?
« on: September 14, 2008, 07:02:36 pm »
For both modes. I've searched and didn't see a similar thread, so while posting this 'incident', I guess I'll just make this a place for people to post similar things.
Just now I got my first dragon attack since starting DF. I ordered everyone inside, and pulled the lever that would flood the entrance tunnel with magma. Unfortunately the flow was so slow that the dragon got past the magma exit without even touching the magma!
Then it went down at the 3rd stone-fall trap.
BTW, 1st post. I didn't feel the need to post anything before, but I just have to post this one. XD
