I'm gonna go on a wild speculative hunch here, but I've noticed several cases of my own dwarves/animals interacting with traps in a weird (fun) way. There have been a few cases of "dwarf in a cage" in my recent fort, plus 1 of my cats (chased by goblins) got instantly dismembered by one of the weapon traps, out of nowhere. Could it be that a creature dodging or being propelled towards a trap will cause the trap to not "check" whether the creature is hostile and activate? Maybe you're having a similar problem with the spears - "dodge one - into another" kind of thing. If anyone has noticed something similar, share your thoughts. In the meantime...

Injured friendlies can set off traps, as well as webbed ones. This led to some !!FUN!! when playing kobolds in masterwork one memorable time.
He tries to run in the air for a sec first.I have this image of a raging dwarf standing on a bridge and shouting at his fellow haulers: "YOU. SHALL. NOT. PASS!" and then smashing the bridge beneath himself.
then looking down and going, 'aw fuck'
Like, 5 girls play this game. That's it.You are startlingly correct.
the AI pooped out and left all of my dwarves milling around when there were QUITE CLEARLY jobs that I needed done and they were able to do, and I couldn't declare areas. As far as the other part, i have no idea, but this has happened to me before. Saving and coming back in seems to fix it, but i have no idea what causes it.
This is the third or fourth time I've heard reference to "atom smashers" here. Can someone briefly explain the what the term refers to in DF?
the friggin cats are breeding fast enough WE DONT NEED MORE BABIES!
Also, CAN_SPEAK seems to let pets chat with your dwarves. CAN_LEARN (and possibly SLOW_LEARNER; I'm not sure how that tag works yet) will let them gain social skills. So if you add those two tags to, say, dogs, you can have Legendary Liar dogs that are Superdogly Tough or whatever.
I have had 2 dragons show up at my fortess now. The first one was a walking disaster that was missing an eye and fell over every 20 steps. It wandered into my traps and was sumarrily sliced up. I still don't know where the remains went.
