DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Do all places have magma?

Now why would you want your enemies not to walk into the magma...unless you feel that's too easy, and would prefer a more elaborate death trap?

Edit.   Ninja'd by 17 seconds

Just for kicks, I decided to go and check their website to see what progress they have done, and apparently they finally released v2.3, after two years of development. The changes?

Quote
UFO: Alien Invasion 2.3 released

The UFO:AI development team is proud to announce the release of UFO: Alien Invasion Version 2.3. Two years in the making, this version features loads of new content, a dramatically improved rendering engine and extensive improvements to nearly every aspect of the game's campaign and battle systems.
A few highlights of what's new in version 2.3

    * Complete overhaul of the campaign system, so that alien activity changes depending on the player's actions
    * New capabilities for the rendering engine, including bumpmapping, specular lighting, glowmapping, flare support, texture blending and more
    * A new tactical overhead map
    * Alien bases have been added and the player can mount an assault on them
    * Support for crashed UFO missions
    * Overhauls of the map editor
    * Loads of new maps and new tiles for existing maps that are randomly generated
    * New weapons
    * New music and sound effects
    * And loads of behind-the-scenes optimizations and tweaks for everything from the pathfinding to the user interface

From what I've read it seems they mostly just changed around the way the system works, added more graphics, fixed some of the more annoying inventory problems, and some other misc. stuff.

...

Still waiting for content expansion...maybe they'll release that in another 2 years. Gonna start playing and see how much better it is

General Discussion / Re: Homeowners CAN be sued by burglars
« on: June 18, 2010, 10:18:33 pm »
The only types of traps I believe you could get away with would be ones that are passive, i.e. ones that don't have a trigger. My example would be to put a sign saying "Watch your step" on the front door and windows, and having a hole in front of them. You could argue our way out of a law suit by saying they had been warned, and that you can't be held accountable for them choosing to walk into a hole, even if they were unable to see said hole because of the lighting/etc.

A quick google check didn't turn anything up for me, but I seem to remember reading about a dos game that sounds kinda like that in a gaming magazine. All I really remember though was that is was based on the movie "Alien"

Its quite good actually, until later on when the zombies become MEGA POWERFUL
What he said. The missions get progressively harder. First is kinda easy, Second is a challenge, and the last one is just insane. Still fun though

Learn juggling. Its fun, impressive, improves hand-eye coordination, and improves your brain.

I can see being a baby being fun, provided you were constantly being carried around. Good way to learn things too.
And be used as a shield...

Seems really hard to make money now without resorting to trading all the time. Resources and mapping just aren't worth much.
I disagree. You just have to find one with a huge amount of resources. I once got 100k from resources alone on one run

Having a porch light on at night is a large discouragement to theifs as it makes it easier for them to be spotted and identified.  Make it a motion sensor light if you want to save on your electricity bills.  Make it a motion sensor light attached to a megaspeaker and a hit backsteet boys song if you really want to make him cranky.
This. The key to house burglary is to not get caught, or take high risks. So even if you live in a really crappy area where police response time is slow, having huge lights and sounds go off will spook the thief off unless he's an amateur thief or stupid.

NM, I done figured it out. (File --> Open .mtx file. Why it doesn't do that when you right click and open with .mtx....)

Anyways, get it from the general torrent sites. There were something like 200 seeds and 2,000 leechers on the one I was using. Almost hit a meg of download speed at one point.

Is that all you did? I tried the same thing, got this message

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And thats it. It said is was copying the file, but then it stops and that game isnt installed

I'm pretty sure that statement is incorrect.

It is the most viewed and posted in the subforum, at least.
