Mafia / Demonology ½: A Prototype - Game Over - Good Wins
« on: March 05, 2024, 11:03:48 pm »
On the northern coast of Lake Forlorn, Lost, a small town of only a few thousand, goes about its own business.  It gets its fair share of visitors from out of town:  Family, friends, and the occasional passerby.  There isn’t much to see, a bar and restaurant, a small general store, a cafe with a real sword hanging above a wood fireplace, and a novelty bookstore with a gothic motif run by a thin elderly man.  Any who enter his bookstore seldom find what they were looking for, but nevertheless leave with a simple warning.

“Do not go beyond the pine trees.”

When inevitably asked why, he’ll tell you that it’s trouble, that he can feel it in his bones, that danger lurks there.  Once he spoke of a ritual that hadn’t been finished and the demons required that blood be spilled, but the patron had left the store before he could finish.  These people don’t think too much of it.  But some do.  You do.

It's a long story of fighting back, but here you are now, beyond the pine trees.  You have found the Chosen One and readied for a final confrontation with Evil itself.

This is Demonology, a Mafia game where all available Actions for Good and Evil alike are known.  The game is meant to take influence from longer running franchise games like Paranormal and Supernatural, evolving with time.  Currently, this game is a prototype, and is therefore extremely unpolished.  You are welcome and encouraged to ask questions, comment, suggest changes, and point out obvious flaws in the setup either pre- or post-game, and these may affect the game as it goes.  If you have ideas, you can also throw them out, and they may be added!

The current list of Actions and Roles will be posted in the following post.

Evil is also quite pernicious in this game and has developed countermeasures against you that you may not recognize.  These have been noted as follows:

     - Evil choose 1 of 3 Chosen Ones they wish to fight.
     - All chats (Evilchat included) are locked during the Day, and cannot be posted in (though you are free to read any messages from previous Days.)  You may not quote from a chat, either.
     - Non-Evil characters will be given a Role to fakeclaim that they Investigate as (though they will not have all of those Actions.)
     - The Evilkill is allowed to use a Called Shot, allowing Evil to call the Role of the target (This fails against fake Roles.)[/li][/list]
     - Players may only target each other Player up to once per Night unless any extra Actions are (Sync)hronous
     - Abilities are Ranked, with the highest power being Ranked I and decreasing to different levels based on the Ability.
     - Abilities contain a Rank 0 Ability, only available by Overloading an Ability.

Mafia / BYOR 16: Game Over. Mafia 2 Wins.
    « on: April 01, 2023, 04:35:34 pm »
You receive a short message from webadict.  “Hey guys, I found a website that does all the actions for me, and I’m lazy.”  You click the link and find that, indeed, all you need to do is type in your role name and click a few boxes…

After that, you find yourself looking at a small countdown timer, that shows “Now Loading... Waiting for previous game to end.”

This is BYOR 16 (A.K.A. Bring Your Own Role).  You can choose any role, whether it be a picture, short story, Wikipedia page, molecule, idea, noun, dream, favorite color, star athlete, cosmological sign…  You get the idea, I hope, and if you don’t just ask for a role, and one shall be provided to you at no additional cost.  Please include a short description, Wikipedia link, or video (preferably short), anything will suffice.  If there is no explanation, and I'm oblivious to the knowledge, you might be in a bit of trouble, as I casually make things up out of a hat.  I'll make up the actions for your role.  No matter what your role, no action or alignment will ever be guaranteed.

With that introduction out of the way, let's get down to the important bits.

This game will end signups on April 9th.

    Game Theme:  Four-Squared

The following rules are in effect this game:
     - When you signup, you may choose up to 1 idea to be added to the flavor.
     - When you signup, you may choose up to 2 Action types to be added to your role from the following list:  [Super,  Copy,  Hide,  Bus,  Block,  Redirect,  Protect,  Kill,  Recruit,  Inspect,  Learn,  Watch,  Track,  Delay,  Motivate,  Randomize,  Gift,  Auto,  Evolve,  Vote]
     - All Players now have 3 Action Points per Phase that can be spent on Actions, instead of one Action per Phase.  Actions will list their Action cost instead of their Priority, which has been deprecated.
     - When you signup, you may send in Town or Mafia.  You will be 4 times more likely to receive this Alignment.

Because of this rule change, the Mafiakill has now been changed to the following:

    Quote
{AP1} (Night, Mafiakill) Mafiakill [target]:  Kill the target.
    Tags:  Kill

    Roll To Dodge / Abnormal Investigators - Turn 2 (6 / 6)
    « on: December 04, 2022, 09:50:30 pm »
This is Abnormal Investigators, an RTD adventure where characters are given a mission to investigate Abnormalities.  Obviously.  You and your team of self-identified experts will do whatever it takes to make sure that these abnormalities don’t affect the general populace, up to and including your own death.

To join the game, please fill out the provided Character Sheet with any relevant information.

    Turn 0

On the corner of Lexington and Concord lies a condemned building operating a small but elaborate paranormal investigative agency.  Its name is subject to change day-by-day and week-by-week, but it’s currently under the name of Abnormal Investigations.  The owner–a mysterious man by the name of Mr. Undefined that no one admits to having met–keeps the business afloat through means that escapes you and the other employees.

Your mission handler, Hrothgar, meets you and the rest of your team inside, explaining a series of unexplained disappearances at the local park.  Sources say that large animals have also been spotted there, though typically during the night, and that this is likely connected.  Your mission is to investigate for Abnormalities and find those missing or their ultimate fate.  You accept the mission.

You head over to Regina in R&D, but as you approach, you’re hit by a cacophony of noise and find the door lock tight.  As you knock on the door, the noise stops, and a masked face appears from a crack in the door.  Regina tells you that she’s busy right now and to come back later.  You try to look past her, but she slams the door and continues about her business.

This means you’ll have to make do with the Armory.  Unfortunately.

The Armory is staffed by a single person, an elderly curmudgeon by the name of Greta.  You're pretty sure she's some type of goblin or troll.  No one knows her last name because she refuses to answer, and HR refuses to push the issue because she has vast amounts of weaponry at her fingertips.  Hrothgar tells you that she’s been here before the building was condemned, and that’s probably true given that the bulletproof glass that separates you and her is stained yellow from cigarette smoke, another issue that HR doesn’t bother to bring up with Greta.  There’s no visible entry method into the vault, though there is a small chute below the window to receive and dispense items.  As you approach the window, her raspy voice asks for your ID.  She stares at you with soulless eyes, smoke wafting from her cigarette, waiting for you to ask for something.

    What do you do?

Mafia / Webadict's Supernatural - Game Over: Day of the Burning Sun
    « on: September 16, 2022, 01:58:56 pm »
It was a gruesome sight.  The body was charred black, disintegrated to ashes, and as The Elder identifies the remains, They click Their tongue and make a protective motion.  And, on the Eve of the Burning Sun, too.

One of the Children identifies the body as webadict.  He had apparently been looking into some of the other Children secretly under the orders of The Elder.  You can tell even from this distance that these wounds are unnatural, and The Elder hurriedly gets to Their feet.

“We are under attack.  An Evil force has infiltrated our midst.”  The Elder turned toward the remaining Cultists, moving Their gaze between those present.  “We will be quarantining until further notice.  All those here will be held until the Evil has been found.”  They move towards the doorway, whispering to a suited guard.  “I need time to consider what must be done.  We will be shifting our plans until further notice.”  They leave the room, and you hear several locks slide into place.

There are a few new faces mixed in with some of the veterans, so you decide to take turns introducing yourselves, and by the end, you found that the following people were here…

Mafia / Beginner Mafia 2: BYOR Edition - Game Over!
    « on: July 03, 2022, 12:43:36 pm »
Hey, potentially new player! Ever wanted to play Mafia, but really scared about playing and then realize we fill up our games stupid fast? Want to play one of the fun games, but scared about being new? Are you wanting to play something closer to a Forum Game than regular Mafia?

This is Bring Your Own Role (BYOR) Mafia (specifically for Beginners), where you submit a role name to me (and preferably a wiki link, if it's not something commonplace.) What roles are available? Pretty much anything! Want some ideas? Look in the spoiler!

Spoiler: Role Ideas (click to show/hide)

    How to join:
    - First, post that you are in in bold. New players will always get priority.
    - Second, send your preferred role name to me, webadict.
    - Third, I will notify you when the game starts, with your role.

These sign-ups may be longer than other games because this game is geared specifically for inexperienced and new players! If you wish to join, but this game is currently running, simply post as such in one of the pinned threads.

    How to play:
Never played before? Have no fear! We have a couple players that will try their best to help you play. The Town must find the Mafia and eliminate them while the Mafia eliminates the Town at Night. Since this is a BYOR, all players will have a role, and be able to use their role powers to benefit them in some way.

    Here's some boring rules!

    Rules:
    - We start on Day 1, which means everyone gets to play!
    - Hammers are in effect. That means if a majority vote is reached, the Day ends. Please cease talking at that point until the Day is processed.
    - Days start at ~72 hours and eventually shorten to 48 hours as the game progresses. Nights will always be 24 hours or until all Actions are received. Weekends will count for 24 hours.
    - There will be no extensions or shortens, except in special circumstances (Hammers will always end the Day, so if you wish to shorten the Day, HAMMER!)
     - If you require a replacement, please notify me as soon as possible. Things happen, do not worry about it!
    - Vote in bold and red, for clarity. I will use a bot to read votes named Mamobo, and will posts vote counts at least once per Day, though you may ask for a vote count at any time.

Also, for those without knowledge of how I style roles, here's a little cheat sheet!

    Sign-ups:
New or inexperienced players will get priority! If the sign-ups are filled and you're a new or inexperienced player, I will remove an experienced player for you! It would be preferred to have at least 2 experienced players to help out, but if we get 9 new players, then we'll simply play like that!

    Day 4: Maximum Sin
    Day 4 Execution: 4maskwolf's Crimes
    Night 4: Codename: Masked Wolf
    Day 5: Toon World

From the maker of mostly viable games comes another mostly viable game!

    It's Simple BYOR (2)!

Simple BYOR is pretty much exactly like a regular webadict BYOR, except I tune it down from the normal 11 levels to like a 6/10, or maybe a little lower.

For a simple BYOR, you merely pick anything that you want, be it a mythical animal, video game character, forumite, material, process, etc. Pick whatever you want, but be sure to include any information that might be helpful in making a role for you.

    The rules are simple:
72:24 hour day-night cycles, weekends count for 24 hours, and any holidays are freebies.
Vote in red and bold, just to be safe. Do not use red for anything else.
Semi-hammers in effect. Day ends immediately when there are a majority of people voting for one player or for no execution. There is no discussion afterwards, except for last words.
Last words are in effect. The player that is chosen to be executed will have one post before being executed. After this post, no further discussion or Actions may take place.
No quoting your role PM. You may discuss any portion of your role and flavor, so long as it is paraphrased in your own words.
Send in your role when you sign-up.
    Don't be a jerkface.
    Follow the rules.

    Pretty simple, right?

Spoiler: Basic rules (click to show/hide)

You are not in the game until I receive a role. Also, don't under- or overestimate your abilities. And have fun! Because, honestly, that's the whole point.

Also, for those without knowledge of how I style roles, here's a little cheat sheet! If you ask me one of these questions, I will not answer it.

Mafia / Do Aliens Exist? - Social Deduction Miniature
    « on: January 29, 2022, 12:59:30 am »
    Do Aliens Exist?

Do Aliens Exist? is a miniature game setup intended to last about one In-Game Day where all players will debate whether or not Aliens are currently among them.

    Setup:
The game will be self-moderated, where all votes are public and the roles are handed out automatically. The game ends at the end of the agreed upon time, or when all Players have agreed the Day is over.

At the beginning of the game, it is randomly decided whether Aliens exist, and if they exist, half of the players (rounded towards an odd number of Humans) are chosen as Aliens. Afterwards, debate begins. All players must work together to determine if Aliens exist or not.

At the end of the game all players reveal themselves and the Human's votes are tallied. If the majority have chosen correctly, the Humans win. Otherwise, the Humans lose (and the Aliens win, if applicable).

Since this is an auto-mod game, there will be no moderator. There is no player limit, but we'll probably need around 5 or more to play. The Day can be any length, but that can be decided by players.

    Players:
    - EuchreJack
    - Jim Groovester
    - Knightwing64
    - Maximum Spin
    - roseheart
    - ToonyMan
    - webadict

Mafia / Dead Webadict Now: Game Over
    « on: December 05, 2021, 01:43:58 am »
Kill Webadict Now : Webadict Edition REDUX!

This is the part where I explain the story as it was, is, and will be. But, I don't think I can. That involves knowing more than I do. I know almost the same amount as you do. Maybe even a little less.

In a small secluded area of sub-dimensional space (as if that explains anything), there sits a number of figures around a fire, the only light in a deep, dark abyss. The fire casts long shadows, cloaking these familiar strangers in the nothingness of the void. One of them takes a stick and stirs the fire, pushing a blackened skull around.

One of them broke the fire's ceaseless monologue. "I'm still not dead. And neither are you."

And the game begins again, just as it has always done.

This is Kill Webadict Now, a bastard mod in which you must, as the title suggests, kill webadict now. The means to do so will be less apparent, and the tools with which to do it will be confounding at best, and brain hemorrhaging at worst.

There is one (1) rule that I, the game moderator, must abide by that will be given to you: All text in BLUE cannot be lies. You must accept this as truth, or the game does not exist.

    Basic rules:
You may not PM another player, but you may talk during all Phases of the game, so long as that talk is here. Unless you're dead. Then you'll need to not talk here.
Days will last 72 hours. Night will last 72 hours.
Extension should not be necessary, but you may choose to Shorten so long as a majority of players agree.

    Players:
    - TricMagic - Hat Kid: Died Day 3
    - Roden - Died Day 5
    - Maximum Spin - Triskaidekaphobia: Died Day 4
    - EuchreJack
    - Jim Groovester - Alice, the Class President: Died Night 1
    - ToonyMan - Necromancer and Phoenix Mage: Died Night 5
    - FallacyofUrist - Catgirl Knight of Obligation: Died Day 4
    - Toaster
    - Knightwing64 - Jim Groovester: Died Night 4
    - Vector - Red, Orange, Blue, White, and Black: Died Day 5 -> Revived Night 5
    - Superdorf
    - TolyK - Child/Surgeon/Ambusher: Died Day 3 -> Revived Night 3
    - Egan_BW - Angry Unicorn: Died Day 3

    Replacement List:
    This can always be you!

Mafia / [LEGITIMATE GAME!!!] Is Webadict An Assassin: The RTD?
    « on: April 01, 2021, 06:33:49 pm »
The game is simple: Is webadict Mafia?

    Rules:
At the beginning of the game, webadict starts as a random alignment of Town or Mafia.
When you post, you randomly generate a number between 1 and 100 points. You keep track of your points and trade and spend them as necessary.
You may spend points to create your own abilities, or donate them to me to stash in my Cayman Islands bank account.
To use an action, send me a PM and it will be resolved. Or don't, and just post it here. Any rules that have been added will be listed within this Spoiler tag.

    The game starts now.

Want to be a Mage? Sure, you can be a Pyromancer, a Cryonicist, or an Earth Mage. Maybe you want to be an Electromancer? What about Slime Wizard? Or a Bear Summoner? Or a Robot Phoenix Enchanter? What's that, Cat Alchemist? Don't see a course that fits your potentially insane needs? We'll MAKE one.

This is Magic Mafia MM, a BYOR-like in which you send in an Element for your mage to have control over. Whether this is an object, an animal, an idea, a state of matter, etc., I'll try my best to make you a mage. Your chosen element will grant you powers that match it, and if you're Undecided, we have a great path towards your new future magical ability!

This game will begin rolling for roles eventually. Whenever I get enough players to lock down sign-ups.

    How to Join:
Send me a PM with your desired object of influence. If you have a specific role name for your magic, I may keep it.
In addition, please send how much you'd like to be a non-Town alignment (1-10, where 1 is that you're so Town that you just can't believe bad people exist, and 10 being that if you were any more wolf, you'd be blowing down brick houses.)

You are not in the game until I receive a role. Also, don't under- or overestimate your abilities. And have fun! Because, honestly, that's the whole point.

Also, for those without knowledge of how I style roles, here's a little cheat sheet! If you ask me one of these questions, I will not answer it.

    Mafia / webadict's Games/Roles/Rules - Discussions and Commentary Thread
    « on: February 19, 2021, 09:28:52 pm »
I sort of needed a place to discuss and comment on several game archetypes I've created. My goal is to place design thoughts on games I've made previously, as well as create a repository for roles and gametypes that might be useful to fledgling game moderators. However, please note that this thread can be a place to ask for thoughts and feelings beyond my own games.

As such, this post will contain a link to the corresponding game types:
    Bring Your Own Role Mafia
    Don't Outguess The Mod Mafia
    Dwarf Fortress Mafia
    One Night Ultimate Webwolf
    Third Party Mafia
    Vote Mafia

For BYOR discussion, singular games or roles may be linked, along with action ideas and their design philosophies, and if you encountered an idea you liked or disliked in a BYOR game, feel free to discuss it here!
