The mist is finally abated, and with it, another life has been snuffed out.  You find TricMagic surrounded by a group of animals, desperately nudging their fallen summoner in a vain attempt to keep him going.  As the last bits of magic keeping them in this world dissipates, they take turns popping out of existence.  The last remaining rabbit removes its top hat, placing it upon its former pupil’s corpse before hopping away into the fog.

“Another one has died.  Surrender is still an option for the rest of you.  His family, unfortunately, will not be spared merciful deaths.”

You remaining four face each other.  The final battle still wages.  Your friends will need to be avenged.

TricMagic has died.

TricMagic was a Summoner (Good)

An unknown Prophesy is in effect.

There is one Demon among you.

Quarque looks at his compatriots, astounded.  "Do you..." he pauses, looking at his feet, "Do you seriously not believe it is me?  Was I that untrustworthy?"

Quarque looks between them, nods slowly, and then closes his eyes.  "Then it appears you have seen through my facade after all.  I was right to not trust you."

His form twists and changes, and, suddenly, Quarque stands before you, tentacles formed in place of his mouth, his skin turns a murky green like seaweed.  Ostensibly, there is no doubt in your minds that Quarque is the monster you seek.  You prepare for the final battle, readying your weapons, but the fight does not start.  Instead, Quarque takes a long protruding claws and rips out his own throat, the pulpy mass falling in front of the remaining five as the Channeler meets his fate by his own hands.

Someone moves among you, but you're not sure who.  The mist swarms in among you and you are lost.

A voice like rotting cider drips into your ears.  "I'm glad you removed that vile outsider's influence from this world.  For that, I will reward you.  Should you bow to me now and recognize me as queen, I will let you sacrifice your friends and family painlessly."  She laughs.

Oh, does she laugh.

Alright, Mamobo has been updated to show your total and daily post counts!  Daily post counts are counts within the last 20 hours, so you have some buffer room.

NOTE:  Post count may be slightly inaccurate on account of DST, will fix this eventually.  If you have ideas for better display methods, feel free to PM them or use your MINUSCULE REMAINING POSTS to tell me otherwise.  Muahahahah!

@Webadict: Sofanthiel hasn't been online since the 7th; could you prod them on Discord?
Well, that probably won't help this particular game, as sofanthiel is not a Player, but if you find it necessary for me to do so, I still probably won't.

20
I think Webadict said over discord that it bypasses other abilities and is a free action?
I should also note this is partially incorrect.  The proposed Free portion of the Called Shot system is not in play here (it was a bit of a thought experiment at the time, and may be changed later based on this or future games.)

The Called Shot is merely an additional aspect of the Evilkill, which can cost either 1, 2, or 3 AP, depending on what the Evilkiller decides, and claiming the Role is an optional thing to do.

This may not be super well-defined in the rules, and that's entirely my bad.

21
I was asking Crystalizedmire this question because CM isn't good at making stuff like that up and doesn't think very deeply about what info to reveal as town. Or "town".

btw I've read this line five times and still don't understand what a called shot does.
Quote
- The Evilkill is allowed to use a Called Shot, allowing Evil to call the Role of the target (This fails against fake Roles.)
A Called Shot is a modification of the Evilkill, such that by claiming your target's Role, the Evilkill is unaffected by all other Actions.

In essence, if I were the Chosen One, and someone used Evilkill webadict, call Chosen One, I would ALWAYS die, regardless of any other Actions.  Additionally, the Evilkill would be immune to all other Actions, like Nosey.

If they instead Called any other role, the Action not only fails, but is also susceptible to all other Actions.

Mafia / Re: Demonology ½: A Prototype - Choosing Phase
« on: March 11, 2024, 09:47:39 pm »
Six people surround the bodies of several lesser demons and some of your friends.  It’s hard to fully identify them, but one of the demons you fought appeared to be some type of shapeshifter or illusionist.  It’s tough to tell in the heat of the moment.  One thing’s for sure, though:  There’s one too many bodies.  Or perhaps one too many of your group alive.

You all eventually decide to solve this through the power of friendship:  You’ll simply pick one of you to die at a time.

An unknown Prophesy is in effect.

There is one Demon among you.

Apologies, I'm gonna start this tomorrow, I'm too tired to start it right now, but I'll send the Evil player a heads up to pick their Prophesy without any flavor.

My bad!

Whelp!  We'll start this on Sunday Night with a Choose Phase.  If anyone joins before then, they can join on in!

I'll wait for a couple of days, but I can probably run the game with any number of people, though the more players, the longer the game will last.  6 players will probably be 2 or 3 Days max, with a 1 scum team.

Minor nitpick, I would prefer the original numbering for ability grades, where I is weakest and IV is strongest. Seems more intuitive.
I sort of agree, but I like some Abilities not having a Rank equivalent.  I don't think Kill V (Kill I) should exist, for instance, and jumping straight to a higher rank might be a different type of issue.

Both have their own flaws.

In.

Do pure Vote posts count as posts for the day?
Absolutely.  Don't waste them.

In scum hands, Broaden could let scum end the game at what would otherwise be MYLO. Is that desirable?
It is known, but I think Elo breakers should involve two or more scum alive, so I'll change it.

How strict is the rule about not quoting chats? Should we just avoid literal quotes, can you mention that you're in a chat with someone for instance? Can you say that you're sure that Johnny is a demon because of "something he said in a private chat with me"?

Same as mod messages.  No direct quotes, paraphrases welcome.

Mafia / Demonology ½: A Prototype - Game Over - Good Wins
« on: March 05, 2024, 11:03:48 pm »
On the northern coast of Lake Forlorn, Lost, a small town of only a few thousand, goes about its own business.  It gets its fair share of visitors from out of town:  Family, friends, and the occasional passerby.  There isn’t much to see, a bar and restaurant, a small general store, a cafe with a real sword hanging above a wood fireplace, and a novelty bookstore with a gothic motif run by a thin elderly man.  Any who enter his bookstore seldom find what they were looking for, but nevertheless leave with a simple warning.

“Do not go beyond the pine trees.”

When inevitably asked why, he’ll tell you that it’s trouble, that he can feel it in his bones, that danger lurks there.  Once he spoke of a ritual that hadn’t been finished and the demons required that blood be spilled, but the patron had left the store before he could finish.  These people don’t think too much of it.  But some do.  You do.

It's a long story of fighting back, but here you are now, beyond the pine trees.  You have found the Chosen One and readied for a final confrontation with Evil itself.

This is Demonology, a Mafia game where all available Actions for Good and Evil alike are known.  The game is meant to take influence from longer running franchise games like Paranormal and Supernatural, evolving with time.  Currently, this game is a prototype, and is therefore extremely unpolished.  You are welcome and encouraged to ask questions, comment, suggest changes, and point out obvious flaws in the setup either pre- or post-game, and these may affect the game as it goes.  If you have ideas, you can also throw them out, and they may be added!

The current list of Actions and Roles will be posted in the following post.

Evil is also quite pernicious in this game and has developed countermeasures against you that you may not recognize.  These have been noted as follows:

     - Evil choose 1 of 3 Chosen Ones they wish to fight.
     - All chats (Evilchat included) are locked during the Day, and cannot be posted in (though you are free to read any messages from previous Days.)  You may not quote from a chat, either.
     - Non-Evil characters will be given a Role to fakeclaim that they Investigate as (though they will not have all of those Actions.)
     - The Evilkill is allowed to use a Called Shot, allowing Evil to call the Role of the target (This fails against fake Roles.)[/li][/list]
     - Players may only target each other Player up to once per Night unless any extra Actions are (Sync)hronous
     - Abilities are Ranked, with the highest power being Ranked I and decreasing to different levels based on the Ability.
     - Abilities contain a Rank 0 Ability, only available by Overloading an Ability.
