why don't you just have a raw, unarmed level of ability, and tag.

say, fisherdwarf is fishing with bare hands, has x% to catch fish, can catch x size fish whatever, and in the "V" screen, it'll have the skills, and below have, missing spear.

and then, you have a tooled level of ability.

that's what happens when you have tools, the more tools, the more complex the tools, the better quality the tools, the better.

it'll also encourage people to not put all their eggs in one dwarf sotosp34k.

yeah, but i built a tower made different colors on each level, which continually spewed miasma out of four vents on the top. Is there going to be a wonder saying

I draw certain conclusions from this thread.

1) Toady deserves the right to set his own graphics, and graphical inputs.

2) 3rd party tilesets work with the game, and can be downloaded and used by anyone if they don't like ASCII.

3) Toady has a personality.

4) Digging enemies is wrong (LoLwUt?)

5) By bringing in extra work to help with the programming, toadies freedom of choice will be somehow hampered.

6) The game is download, for free. so suck it up princess.

yeah. but let's run it off a crytek/total war engine, just to give it the 9800gtx graphics burst!

i like the ASCII. it's simple, and you can understand it.

yeah. but all chain mail was typical size.
we can assume that was because even the best of human craftsmen didn't have the dexterity to make them smaller, therefore ring size will just be with quality...

but, what if wearing more armor also decreased speed *der*.

but also decreased dodge, for instance, a legendary wrestler could dodge an incoming catapult stone, you'd just have to run somwhere. If a ballista fired from far enough away, that too. also heavy weapons could be dodgeable.

but then you'd need two computations, reaction time *experience, age, mood, fatigue* and speed *attributes, age, armor*

so say an arrow came in, a dwarf in full plate could stand and hope it got deflected, a dwarf wearing nothing but leather could duck and hope it missed.

this could also open up the hospital building, with a surgeon/doctor. I.e. to make wounds heal faster.

if a dwarf takes a poison which can be cured by drinking lots of water, he dies. But if a hospital and doctor are around. it tells him to drink lots of water... geddit?
