Being able to link stockpiles and trade depots like you can stockpiles and workshops would be nice. Anything in linked stockpiles should not need hauling when the traders arrive. Have it limited so that the stockpile needs to be nearby rather than on the other side of the map. The traders would need to intelligently collect any goods you trade with them when they pack up.

Can't help but wonder if the trade depot will get replaced entirely. It's an odd abstraction considering how many items, creatures, and caravans get packed in there. They are kind of dull as is and are ripe for interesting expansion.

In the third starship troopers movie they have planet killers. As in, full on Alderaan on their asses. But then the next (animated) movie shows the bugs got some new tricks, so no happy ending just yet.
I found it jarring how pretty much nobody dies in the animated films. I suppose they were aimed at children, but the contrast with the films made it seem really surreal.

Oooh. So that's what posterize does. :o The target isn't actually resized though, but since circle-select isn't hard-edged, it results in fuzzy borders. Colors probably won't matter since the game will change those anyway (and I don't know how to use palettes effectively :-[). But I'll try to sharpen the borders of everything. Thanks! :)
Can you not select the tool then turn off antialiasing in the tool options to get a crisp edge? Been a while since I used GIMP.

Discovered the original version of "The Hitcher" with Rutger Hauer on 'telly.

A great film. If you've not seen it I suggest Duel for something a little similar and also great.

Yes, that would be quite interesting.
Question: When you say 'randomly given' do you mean generated at worldgen or something?
It would have to be set at world gen, but then allowing views to shift with time might be interesting.

What if the bridge was cast obsidian? Would that alter the map in a way DF understands at a more abstract level?
I suspect not, but it would be simple to test along any coast now that magma is always available.

To be fair Islamic extremist terrorists can have their funny moments. Al-Qaeda had a plot to sink a US Navy ship, but they sank their own boat by overloading it with explosives (source). This event among others inspired the satirical film Four Lions about an incompetent British Islamic terror cell. Considering the humour largely relies on them failing at things I'm not sure it'd carry over well into a game where you played as or against them.

In my experience pressurised water doesn't push creatures exactly. I had a massive cistern above my entrance with the aim of pushing goblins into a pit outside, but instead the water would instantly fill the tunnel around the invaders and not push them. It's because of how pressure causes water to teleport rather than flow and you need flowing water to move items / creatures. I had better luck with a slower shallower flow.
