Anyways, thanks for the replies.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: July 22, 2012, 07:16:20 pm »
Deathfloors had just had its second goblin siege (the first one was just a squad of crossbow gobs). A squad of lashers lead by a spearmaster and a squad of axes lead by a hammerlord along with some trolls. On my side was 3 full squads -swords, war hammers and spears - poorly equipped and with very little training. I also had a squad of crossbows. The dwarfs managed to somehow win, loosing 15 soldiers and permanently crippling 3 others with nerve damage (all of them from the lashers). Highlight of the battle was probably when the axegoblins managed to sneak into my fort through the barracks door (while the soldiers were busy playing with trolls elsewhere). When I saw them going in, I expected a civilian massacre, but what happened next actually made me proud of my useless marksdwarfs for the first time. Two marksdwarfs that were late to party outside stopped by the barracks entrance and proceeded to use the one tile corridor as a choke point, peppering it with bolts and holding off any goblins attempting to enter the fort. They didn't actually  kill any of them, but they injured them enough to prevent them from entering the fort until they finally routed.
The fort has seemingly already recovered from the losses. The dead have been buried, the tantrums stopped and the squads have been replenished. Not to mention the newly acquired goblinite. Now, let's hope there's not gonna be lashers next time...

DF Gameplay Questions / Will giant rattlesnakes lay eggs?
« on: July 22, 2012, 02:54:24 pm »
I got a tame giant rattlesnake from the elves. Can't breed it unfortunately, since I don't have a male (...yet), but giant rattlesnakes eggs would make for a pretty bitchin' breakfast. So, will it lay eggs if I lock it in a room with a nestbox?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Soldiers won't wear bone/shell gauntlets.
« on: July 21, 2012, 01:34:18 pm »
Oh...It seems like they're all wearing gloves and mittens. I guess gauntlet's won't go over them. Gonna try and tell them to replace clothing I guess.

EDIT: It worked! Thanks. Now, are they gonna get bad thoughts because of lack of clothing or does armor count?

DF Gameplay Questions / Soldiers won't wear bone/shell gauntlets.
« on: July 21, 2012, 12:26:40 pm »
My current fort has a bit of a metal shortage,  so I decided to at least give my militia some bone and shell stuff until I can get some goblinite. They have no problems wearing shell leggings, but refuse to equip bone/shell gauntlets. The 'e'quipment  screen in the military menu has the little green checkmark next to the gauntlets, but the dwarfs don't have them in their inventory (they're all in a bin). Naturally, I checked that the gauntlets are accessible and I tried setting their uniforms to 'metal gauntlets' (since the wiki says that bones count as metal) and re-assigning the uniforms, but no luck. Anyone know what's going on? I don't want kobolts cutting their hands off.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Vampires in my world bugged?

Been a while since I played adventure mode, but I don't think you get a special message when drinking vamp blood. Try drowning yourself (swim under a bridge or other covered area) to see if you still need to breath (of course, if you still do, you could die). Or, you could try feeding on an unconscious person.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Weremonster Party

Ah, that makes more sense. Of course, I don't really remember which of the 3 creatures chewed up my buddy. In fact, it might have been a weretortoise we faced earlier. I'm tempted to walk him over to a market, let him turn there and watch him fight the merchant army.

So, weremonsters are friendly towards each other kind of like vampires are friends with other undeads? Why were those two fighting then?

Well, that's a bummer. Though, if he's anything like the creatures that turned him, I could probably kill him in a single strike once he turns. Hopefully, that won't start some idiotic loyalty cascade.

I just found out that the mythical 'sewer access' actually exist. Now, I have to go down there and finish up all those sewer bandit quests. Though the most likely scenario is that I get lost or murdered by an archer.

Awesome. Is he gonna turn next on the next full moon? If he does, will he still be friendly to me?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Weremonster Party

I got a quest to kill a werecritter from some peasant. Me and my trusty goblin sidekick traveled to its cave lair, but it seems like it there was a bit of a territorial dispute going on there. Inside the lair, there was a werelizard, a weregila monster and a wererat (the rat was the one I was originally sent to kill). The rat was fighting with the gila monster, but the lizard was seemingly staying out of it. I watched it for a while, but it wasn't going anywhere. They were just biting each other and injecting extract, but there was no serious injuries. Eventually, I got bored and just killed them all. I've seen night creature families before, but those were all the same 'species' and were friendly with each other. I dunno what happened here.

Also, can companions be turned into werecreatures? I've tried letting my goblin buddy be mauled by them, but I haven't got the 'injected with extract' message despite several bites breaking the skin.

Instead of throwing like every other person on this forum, use it to bludgeon people to death.

Stealthily.

Ooooohhh I like that idea.  And I just so happen to be trained in the art of Misc object user.  -Note my hand arrows-

Well I am still horrifically slow but... Hitting a human with it, FLUNG HIM INTO A WALL.  :)

This should be drawn and posted into the 'draw your adventures' topic.

Yes yes it should!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Acessing the sewers
« on: June 08, 2012, 10:51:23 pm »
I've got a quest to kill some olm man dude hiding out in a town's sewers. I tried to access them rough the dungeons in the castle, but those were a dead end. I also found some dungeon-type thingy under a temple, but I couldn't explore it because a mummy chased me out. Is there any way to get into the sewers? I'm seeing 'sewer access' markers on the travel map, but they seem to only indicate grates. I know there are occasionally drainage pipes into nearby rivers, but I'm pretty sure you need to breathe underwater/not breathe at all to get through and I'm not ready to vamp myself yet (need to work up those stats, yo).

So, I decided to play around with the new minecart system a little bit. I want to set up a simple route that takes food from the pile near the farms and brings it down one level to the secondary food pile near the kitchens and dining room. The bottom half was carved in natural stone with no problems and looks like a proper continuous track, including the ramps. However, the top half is in the dirt layer and has to be constructed. I don't really understand what all the different directions mean in the construction menu (aside from the corners and intersections) and when I tried to build multiple tiles of track, it appears as disjointed tiles instead of a continuous one. Can someone please explain to me how to properly build the damn thing.

Also, is silver armor any good? I got artifact silver helm and I wanna give it to my militia commander, 'cause he'll look like a pimp.
And finally, can giant mosquitoes breed? I got pair that are somewhat trained and want to try raising them as war animals. (if yes, do they need a nestbox?)
