Could it possibly be caused by them picking crops from the farm plot? Because, I think, all dwarves have have that labour enabled.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Possible werecritter

I might be wrong about this, but don't werecritters arrive with a message box popup like titans and FBs? Can they sneak into your fort like vamps?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Invasion of the ninja snails!
« on: May 28, 2012, 03:43:52 pm »
My very young fort has recently been visited by a Giant Snail. Since this was clearly a great danger to the fort, I sent out my militia-in-training (3 losers swinging pieces of obsidian on a stick). For the next 3 minutes or so they proceeded to chase after it. By that I mean the SNAIL was actually outrunning them and they only got in occasional hits as they were pursuing it. Also, the snail was apparently capable of jumping to dodge their attacks...

It eventually ended with the snail getting its shell ripped off (so, I guess it became a slug) and then getting kicked in the brain by one of the soldiers. Now I wanna know if its possible to tame one. It would sure make a great tank to distract the invaders and draw the fire...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No more self-entombing builders?

From Toady's post on the front page...

wall/floodgate/etc. builders often make more reasonable decisions about where to stand to avoid walling themselves in
Does that mean I will no longer have to resort to silly tricks like designating and suspending walls to get the dorfs to stay on the right side?
*sigh* I'm gonna miss those times. (Well, not really...)

Yeah, just changing it in creature_whatever, doesn't seem to work. Is there somewhere else I should change it as well?

I've tried setting wait_period to 1 and even 0. I still have a ridiculously long cooldown. In fact, I'm not sure it made any difference. Is it because I'm trying it in arena mode?

How do I mod it so that I can fire Ki blasts rapidly in Adventure mode? They seem to have a long-ass cooldown, which totally isn't DBZ style. In fact, I wanna decrease cooldown on all of the skills (except maybe the transformation). It's just way too long for some reason.

Started new peasant adventurer, decided to solo raid a bandit camp with only proficient in shield user and novice in swimming. Needless to say, expected a merciless slaughter of my poor adventurer with only a single copper sword and dagger to his name.

I decided to chuck whatever I could at the legendary axeman bandit leader to at least reduce the slaughter. Deciding to use the best first, I chuck my large copper dagger...

"The spinning large copper dagger strikes the overlord in the head, tearing the muscle, pushing the skull through the brain and tearing the brain!"

He went on to be one of my most successful by not dying in the first fifteen minutes.

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to me. Was fighting with a bandit lasher, then noticed the leader (also a lasher) approaching.  Tossed the dagger at him (had no throwing skill) and got him in the head.
I noticed that dagger is actually a very deadly throwing weapon. I have dabbling throwing, but just about every time, I manage to cripple something with it by shattering bones or cutting nerves.

Human demigod

Human because I can loot some keeps right away to find decent gear.
Demigod because with I spend my first couple of in-game days grinding my stats up to godly levels anyways, so I might as well just skip straight to the part where I kill the world.

Guys, you are missing the most important question! Would a zombie brain try to eat itself?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Question about bloodsucking
« on: March 24, 2012, 07:29:52 pm »
Ah, so there is no point in drinking when I'm not thirsty? Good to know, I was wasting a lot of time hunting down random animals to feed off when I didn't need to.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Question about bloodsucking
« on: March 24, 2012, 07:07:59 pm »
I finally managed to get a vampire adventurer and so far things have been pretty good, I guess. But I'm a little confused about how much blood I need to drink. With normal food/drinking, you get a limit of 3 'noms' before you have to fast-travel, right? With blood, I can feed from a single creature dozens of times repeatedly and it doesn't even seem to affect them (they die from suffocation due to me strangling them unconscious or they bleed out from wounds I inflicted earlier). The only time I can drain anything dry is when I feed on them while I'm 'Thirsty' (and even then, it only works on small creatures or those who already lost some blood). So, does bloodsucking only work when I'm thirsty, or is there like a hidden hunger meter that fills up every time I drink someone. (and if there is, is there a limit on how much it can fill up?)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Proper burial for a missing miner
« on: March 19, 2012, 07:16:00 pm »
Fortunately, he died right next to my magma forges and stuff, so someone will probably notice his ghost sooner or later. Its kinda sad through. His friends and family continue to hope that he's still alive because I - the only witness (and sort of the cause) of his death - cannot speak up.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Proper burial for a missing miner
« on: March 19, 2012, 06:28:42 pm »
The other day, I ordered my miner to breach a magma pipe for my forges. Expecting it to slowly seep out and allow the dwarf time for escape, I was quite surprised when it rushed out, filling the channel almost instantly and clouding the area in magma mist. Needless to say, the miner didn't make it. Later, I got an announcement that he has been missing for a week, but since his body and all his belongings were consumed by Armok's fiery rock-blood, it wasn't found, so I guess he's not officially dead yet. It won't let my engrave him a slab, so is there any way to declare him s dead, so it lets me engrave one?

I think 'pale' indicates loss of blood. There might have been a vampire who drained her while she was asleep. Don't know why you wouldn't see him/her though. Do vampires sneak when they feed?
