DF General Discussion / Re: So, why is the Bay12 Dwarf Fortress website still so terrible?
« on: July 24, 2009, 09:14:21 pm »
I definitely can't wait for DF to get some better graphical components, but the website? Its, honestly, one of the better video game websites I've seen. Do those who thinks it needs to be improved have a better example it could be striving for? Because the only game website I can think of thats better is the Puzzle Pirates site (which also loads much slower), and I've been to a lot of game websites.
Exceptions: Some pages need to be updated, like screenshots.
The Bay12 site is terrible, though. A different background colour and some better spacing and it would be better, not great, but good enough.
Also, the website is not an advertisement - the only way one is going to end up on it is if you are looking for it, at which point the decision to download has likely already been made. As long as it doesn't hinder people from accomplishing that (and it doesnt) its fine.

Okay, I have the next comic... but can't post it. Whoever is running the picoodle service now has set up something that crashes my browser after a couple seconds. So I'll post it when I can.

Much as I like 3PS, I still miss Mac Hall.
Cool dudes though, have a signed Cthulhu shirt I got from them at Connecticon.
And it brings joy to my heart to know they like Dwarf Fortress.

Thats odd... did picoodle go out of business or something? Redirects to a different site now...
Ah well. One more comic tonight and thats it for today, I think I know what I'm gonna do but any awesome suggestions still might change my mind...

Tried to get the drivers for my own Radeon card. Linux led me to believe it would be easy, assured it me it would download some packages and everything would work just fi- OHMYGOD EVERYTHING IS EXPLODING blah blah blah. So I fixed that, and then tried to do it manually. I fixed THAT and discovered that apparently the drivers are not compatible with recent versions of xorg, but I can downgrade x-org and they should work. I have yet to fix the results of that one.
Anyways,

Anyways,

Aw jeez, I'm away for a day or too and look what happens. Someone got all this... programming language in my thread. I could put a stop to it with a new comic, I'm sure! Now... err...
Oh yah I broke my computer again. Worse this time. I don't think I should be allowed to use these things. And I'm a computer science major! (Mind you, that probably is the problem)

You've spent a while underground digging out that trap, but it wasn't long enough to get cave adapated.
And BigFatDwarf, he is in no ways related to star wars. He is akobold normal dwarf! He neither looks nor acts like jar-jar binks.
Anyways, got the linux box working again. Thanks for those offering the GIMP advice - it is slowly becoming more usable to me as a program. There is but one more problem stopping me from being able to use it - how the hell do I get it to turn off the fuzzyness when I draw lines?

GIMP discussion is no longer relevant. I kind of... broke my computers graphics card. So it will be out of commission for a while. BUT I have things all set up with a windows laptop now with net connection, so hurrah.

Suggestion : Check surroundings is set for the next comic. I'll work on it now, but no promises it will be up tonight.
