My recent experiments in modding have led me to believe it's not possible to add new materials to an existing save. I tried adding a new stone, and even when it was literally copy-pasted from an existing stone with the name changed (so everything should have worked) the game produced "magma" instead.

I don't know how that works for things like plants and animal materials though. Apparently it worked for the bacon mod, but I'm not sure how.  :/

My understanding is the e-book is updated as the game is updated, and the hard copy isn't updated after you buy it (for obvious reasons) but will always be the most up-to-date version available at the time of purchase.

I remember jumping through breeding hoops to get a Kingdra with Octozooka, not because it was a good attack but because it was called Octozooka.

Would it even be possible to add the wicker stuff without a regen though?

I kind of like the idea of multiple wood blocks per log or multiple bricks per clay. That's a bit more making things easier than straight flavour though, so I'll see what other people say.

I tend to be pretty conservative about modding my own games because I feel like it doesn't take much to make stuff feel like "cheating"... So if I add anything on my turn it'll be pretty minor and cosmetic. I was thinking maybe a new dye colour, but again I'm not sure that'd be possible without regen. Maybe if it was added to an existing plant? :-\

I like most stuff from all the generations. The only ones I'm really not a fan of are the overly humanoid ones, like Mr. Mime and Jynx and the stupid Timburr line from BW (plenty of others).

Scyther has always been the coolest Pokémon, hands down, but Woobat/Swoobat are a close runner-up for favourite for me now. I also actually like Zubat...I had a Crobat as my team flyer in Silver. It rocked because it actually had a bat icon when it flew away instead of the standard bird one.

Also, am I the only one who has a bad habit of keeping the earliest Pokémon I caught on my team until the end the game? Like Pidgeot and Furret and Linoone...

Agree with the above.

Also, have I been dwarfed yet?

I don't know about Toady's policy on that either, but I suppose we'll find out.
Considering Toady wrote the introduction for the book, he's evidently aware of the project. I wouldn't expect him to start objecting to it at this point.

Does anyone know if it's possible to extinct land vermin like it is fish?
I have brown recluses on my map and want to train a legendary animal dissector, but if they're going to run out it'll make this ridiculously difficult task impossible.

Conversely, I think virtual pets in all forms are pretty cool. I'll probably check out that dragon one when I have a lot of time to kill on it.

For some reason I keep coming back to this game, even though every time I play it reminds me of why I never really liked nethack. From the esoteric items (I found a whistle. Yay! What's it do? Who the hell knows!) to the mandatory but strangely useless starting pet...

I guess it speaks well for the game, anyway. There's something oddly compelling about sidescrolling RPGs.

Also, even with the above method, NEVER try to stock your hospital when a caravan is in town. Your dwarves will steal every single piece of cloth from the caravan to put in your hospital, much to the annoyance of the traders.
Actually I'm fairly certain that Toady fixed that bug a while back, even if he didn't fix the other one. I haven't seen this happen for several versions now.
I thought that too, but it happened to me in 34.09.

I have never seen this happen with my stockpile method. By "the above method", are you referring to your own or mine?
My method. I made the mistake of designating a new hospital while the elves were around once... I really didn't need those 1500 pieces of rope reed cloth.

The stockpile method will work too, if you prefer, but I like mine because it lets the hospital system work as intended as long as you're careful.

Put less chests/coffers in your hospital. Currently there is a bug where dwarves will try to fill up all of the chests in the hospital zone even if it exceeds the limits placed. Simply put less chests in and then they won't need as much to fill them all up.

That's not entirely accurate.

Supposedly what's happening is that when you have less than your limit, the hospital continues claiming items until the proper number are physically stored in the hospital. Once the right number are stored, it'll stop claiming items until it falls below the limit again. BUT, they'll continue to store all the items it claimed before then.

The best work-around I've found is to forbid all the hospital-stock items (say, cloth/thread) except for the ones I actually want in the hospital. Once they've stored those, you can unforbid the rest with no ill effects.

It also helps if you lower your hospital limit once you've stored your max amount - that means even when the items get used up, it won't fall below the limit and trigger another mad item-grabbing rush. For example, tell them to store 60000 cloth, and once 60000 cloth are stored, set the limit to 10000 instead. They won't remove what's already stored.

EDIT:
Also, even with the above method, NEVER try to stock your hospital when a caravan is in town. Your dwarves will steal every single piece of cloth from the caravan to put in your hospital, much to the annoyance of the traders.
