Life Advice / Re: Ways to stay up without caffeine?

Read/watch/listen to/absorb all the horror fiction you can get your hands on.

After reading a certain horror story, I went two days without sleep without even trying!
Or rather, with lots of trying. To sleep.
It was actually not very fun.

I'd buy the steam thing and pirate the other one. But that's just my opinion :X
Steam just makes it easier with installing and uninstalling games, and you won't lose them...

Well, I know the advantages/disadvantages to Steam...
I guess what I'm asking is if I'd be really missing out by not playing Contracts. How does it compare to the rest of the series?

I used to drink nothing but Sprite, but recently switched over to 100% unsweetened fruit juice instead.
I've taken to watering it down, about 2/3 juice to 1/3 water, both to make it go farther and because the juice I like is pretty intense.

Plain water would obviously be better in most cases, but the tap water around here is disgusting, and buying bottled water in large quantities makes me feel like I'm being scammed.

I'm also a big fan of fruity herbal teas. They're nutritionally identical to water, only without the sewer-taste!

I was going to buy the Terraria 4-pack, but apparently none of my friends have any interest whatsoever in playing it. And I don't want to play it alone.  :(

Question for people: I'm extremely interested in the Hitman series, and have never played any of them. Should I buy the 3-pack on Steam that's missing Contracts? Or should I try to track down something like this with all four games, only not that one because Amazon.com won't ship it to Canada?

Huh, I was on the fence about whether to go for CitiesXL 2011 or not.
Until I noticed it not only has Securom, but also a 5-machine activation limit.
Woowww.

It sure is considerate of folks to keep making my decisions easy for me. :/

Am I the only one who thinks taking the textures and blasting them all up to the highest resolution feasibly possible doesn't actually look all that hot? I've seen it in multiple mods for several games and it always ends up with a weird aesthetic.

Practically everything else about that looks impressive though. I bet I could run it. :P

Well... I was thinking more along the lines of sound effects and/or voice clips than music.

Does anyone know if it's possible to easily edit the sounds that note blocks play? Like, would it be possible to make them play a sound clip from a file rather than their original sound?

People were still setting off large-scale fireworks for Canada Day on the 2nd. During a thunderstorm.

I watched both through my bedroom window. There'd be a bunch of fancy fireworks, and then the storm would go "oh yeah?" and do some sky-spanning lightning bolts overhead. Back and forth for half an hour or so.

So cool.

I just marathoned 39 episodes of a show in a few days, and now I'm caught up and have to abruptly switch over to waiting for one episode a week.
And the show has two-episode-long story arcs.
And left off in the middle of one.
Baw.

i think the fox was from round the twist, but i could be way off...It just really reminds me of something from paul jennings...

edit, yeah i found the story with the fox, from the book: "This is a chilling picture book with a twist in the tail, as Paul slowly brings a fox back to life by feeding its fur with lemons from the tree above its grave. But its the lemons above Paul's grandfather's grave that give the fox its final gift, sight... "

thx for the complete spoiler amazon :'(

That's exactly it! Awesome.  :D
I'd forgotten about that show. I remember the episode where the person grew extra fingernails really creeping me out...

EDIT:
I guess I could ask it here; I have forgotten the name of one movie I can remember. It went roughly like this (it was revealed in different order in the movie); some anti-death-penalty woman has a cancer. She commits a suicide which is filmed and then another anti-death-penalty guy is framed for the murder. He is sentenced to death and just after he is executed, the video (showing the womans suicide) get published. Anyone know the name of this one?
I found it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Life_of_David_Gale

My Night Creature adventurer wants to know if he fears the night.

So do my future lycanthrope adventurers, come next version. :P

First one definitely wasn't Twilight Zone. I'm pretty sure it was a youth-aimed show, because the main characters were kids, and I have the impression that the show had a continuous story, unlike all of those. I don't know for sure, though...

The second was live-action too.

General Discussion / What was the name of that show/movie/song/etc?
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:46:40 pm »
The purpose of this thread is for people to help people identify stuff they encountered in the distant past but can't remember the name or where they saw it. It will probably involve a lot of misremembered details and vague descriptions!
I'm going to rashly assume I'm not the only one who has these.

I have two remembered scenes/episodes, both from live-action shows that were on YTV, probably in the 90's.
The first one I remember clearly because it traumatized me at the time. In it, some people had invented a helmet that allowed people to pass through solid walls. They demonstrated it on a dog. Apparently it didn't work properly if you were thinking/smart, and they demonstrated this by showing off a horrifying series of walls with stone people reaching desperately out of them. The main character somehow ended up using it at some point and almost got stuck in the wall, having to clear his mind to make it through.
I can remember all that, but have no idea what show it was.

The second is from a friend, though I have vague memories of it as well. Apparently it involved a fox which had glass eyes, and had to eat lemons(?) from a special place in order to gain real ones. Or something.
I thought it was an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark, but they're pretty sure it's not.
EDIT: Found it!  It was Round the Twist

Anyone have a clue?
