DF Suggestions / Re: A new ultimate in DF organization technology!
« on: October 05, 2009, 06:48:35 am »
I think he (or she?) means is something like in ATitD.
1) You set a specific stockpile for a task, say a palace that needs 400 blocks, 20 doors and 10 beds.
2) Haulers can bring stuff there instead of the regular piles and possibly save a trip (drag to pile, drag to site)
3) The construction pile keeps the workers from running off to get a door when there's one there or one on the way.
4) It differs from just building a bar stockpile near the site in that once the order's filled, the haulers stop bringing more. When the work's done the pile is abandoned (possibly automagically decommissioned since there's nothing else to bring or take).
5) Oh yeah, the materials are dedicated so no one's swiping the obsidian stone for your tower of doom to make mugs.
I think I got it all.... damn it I was supposed to be getting ready for class.

DF Suggestions / Re: Route caching
« on: April 16, 2009, 06:15:51 pm »
I'd like to point out my earlier suggestion of having routes updated when the simulation's otherwise on pause, like when giving orders or trading.

(And I still say let players place waypoints to encourage traffic patterns.)

With custom tissue layers and raw modding maybe there will be some form of surgical reaction key. Doctors know what to do for a broken leg and the effects, how bad a punctured spleen is. What happens when a spider breaks a leg? Looses a compound eye? Lacerates a wing? We need surgical reactions and morphing...

WAIT!
If a cast is masterwork quality... Then the dwarves would never want to take it off! They'd wear their bandages forever rather than damage them by cutting them off.
On the upside, we no longer need a legendary dining room. They can admire their catheters.

That's it.
Doctor McMuffin is taken by a fell mood.
Doctor McMuffin kills Ewan McRedshirt.
Doctor McMuffin fashions an exceptional bandage for McGuffin. On it are pictures of goblins and dwarves. The goblins are shooting the dwarves. This refers to the near death of McGuffin when a goblin shot him with a crossbow.
...
McGuffin is healed.
The exceptional bandage is removed, Doctor McMuffin flys into a fit of rage.
Doctor McMuffin kills McGuffin.
McGuffin is buried in a fell casket. On it are pictures of doctors and dwarves. The doctors are killing the dwarves.

It's either lupus or the spear in his gut. Treat him for the lupus. If he dies, we'll get more in the spring.

What, nobody else in the UK plays DF? That sucks. Here's what you do:
1) Place a keg at the end of a bridge.
2) Tell everyone there's a party.
3) Retract the bridge.
4) Wait for immigrants.

anyways, a good thing is that it seems soap will finally have a use, and it also seems it will be an important one, thats pretty cool i always hated soap makers......

Man, I didn't stop to think about it before, but can you imagine how ironic it will be when your fortress healthcare gets a backlog of infections because of a lack of soapmakers?  I can see it coming, and I still won't believe it when it happens.

Hmm, that's a nasty paper cut. Gonna put some soap on it?
No, we put the soap maker in the guards.
Hmm...
Alcohol?
Yes, much better.
I think I bit my tongue as well.
Oh yes, and I've got a cut in my throat.
I had a cold last week.
I knew a guy...

Hmm, you've got gangrene. We have to remove the leg or you'll die. But, while I have many axes, swords, knives, giant serrated disks with spikes of leather, I don't have a bone saw. I'm sorry.
Boot weit. Me brootha can forge you one.
...
Bootha, I have the boon sawh.
's too late, brootha. I am done for.
What?
He has looked himself in the store room. He is making a granite scalpel with pictures of socks!
Boot what oov yoor leg?
For a scalpel that menaces with spikes of mule bone, I would give my leg, for the goot oov the mountain home.
And thee other doctors?
I already have a doctor and this room is in use. No one will come until the doctor is done and has finished with me.
Boot the other patients?
For a scalpel with fine engravings of cheese made from oak, they will wait as long as is necessary. Even, Ewan McRedsheert over there.
With the goblin axe stook in hez hed?
That's the oone.
Darn carp it! Eye needed that iron!
Boot for a scalpel with rings of pure onyx...
Eye, for that I can get ootha iron... Boot Brootha... wat if yoo shood die?
For a scalpel... well actooly, I'll confoose the poor doc. Being unable to treat me e'll joos walk away and leave the room too cluttered to work. The others will, in time die of hoonga while waitin for treatment and yoo, having lost your dear brootha, will succoom to sobriety and go on a rampaj, killing every living thing in grief for yoo loss and actin oot at tha meeninglessness of deth.
Boot it twill be a lovely scalpel.
Aye very tasteful.
Think I'll get to see it before you die and I throw myself in the lava?
Eye doono. I've been bleeding for three weeks already.

And eventually, even a local human lord might decide he'd rather come to your fortress for help than risk his local doctors.

We've looked you over and it seems you're suffering from a pituitary imbalance that's caused you to grow to six feet. You also have too much blood in your alcohol system. We're prescribing three years of bed rest and cutting off everything below the knee.

Mac, bus, 'nuff said.

Technically off-topic, and possibly addressed earlier. I'm not going through four pages about something I can't go to.
Has anybody considered DF meetings, in other places? Get together the same day, maybe even enjoy the podcast or something... I dunno. Do a where are you poll... Just a thought, alright half a thought...
I'm going to go get out of the house. Someone told me there's a giant orange ball of fire in the sky and it's so bright it's making all my friends throw up.

Never let anyone kill the child inside you. Even if the child wants BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD.

I like that, I should hang it on my wall.

Thanks everyone, it was just what I needed. I'll buy a dwarf today....

As opposed to a dwarf Toady... ::)

Alright, at 36 I can't go around buying Lego, no matter how cool the skeleton horses...
That being said, has anyone considered running a fortress in Blockland? Have DF players come in and build a fort sort of thing? (Haven't tried Blockland yet so I don't know how it would work.)
