I think they can see through stealth. They do have natural levels in Observer, though the current range of that is unknown (in .34, it was good for a few tiles out. Might have changed, might have not). The only tokens I can find in world.sav that stand out to me are [NIGHT_CREATURE_HUNTER] and [NIGHT_CREATURE_BOGEYMAN], with [SUPERNATURAL] coming up a distant third. I don't think there's a specific token for [ADVENTURER_STEALTH:NOPE].

Is there bloodvision now? Toady provided a screenshot at one point probably last year, but I can't find it in the Creature Tokens wiki page or in the example interactions or the mosquito creature entries. Could be tested by creating a bloodless adventurer, I suppose.

I have seen giant sperm whale corpses with weight less than 1 in arena mode.

Edit: After futher experimenting, butchering one of these whales gives only a skull with weight less than 1.  These bugged whales appeared 15 times out of 104 for me.
Tried
   [BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:LENGTH:110:110:110:110:110:110:110]
   [BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:HEIGHT:110:110:110:110:110:110:110]
   [BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:BROADNESS:110:110:110:110:110:110:110]

Each of the 10 GSW produced 10 teeny-tiny skulls between them.

It's new for them to be wandering around.

You have to go out and find your targets now. Use tracking, and ask people. I think when you get to the location, ask somebody there, and they reply "We are already in xxxx. I couldn't tell you where to look," it means that nobody's home.

As for food, farms do work if you can find something with edible leaves. :) If you don't find something that's familiar to you, then you'll probably end up licking a lot of different leaves until you find something edible. Other plant parts are an option too, but odds are that you're adventuring in spring when there's no fruit to be found.

Can you eat the sentient targets you butcher, assuming you're playing a non-elf?

The game doesn't apply fatness or muscularity to arena creatures, but it does apply the general length / width / broadness modifiers. Edit those in the sperm whale entry to

   [BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:LENGTH:100:100:100:100:100:100:100]
   [BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:HEIGHT:100:100:100:100:100:100:100]
   [BODY_APPEARANCE_MODIFIER:BROADNESS:100:100:100:100:100:100:100]

and you should get the following off each GSW (for .40):

Bone: 1578
Meat: 6589
Brain: 542
Kidney: 542
Spleen: 271
Sweetbread: 271
Tripe: 542
Liver: 542
Intestines: 1626
Heart: 271
Lung: 1084
Eye: 26
Fat: 1423

One of my dwarves got hit with several spikes covered in FB extract, and I'm trying to figure out which FB it was. It's been a year since the incident, and the dwarf is still Sluggish and with serious blistering and minor to moderate swelling of the spiked body parts.

Taking a look at world.sav, I see that the FB syndromes have randomised end times in the low to mid thousands. Doesn't that mean that they should mostly be gone in a week's time (8400 ticks)?

I have a save from shortly after it happened, just as the dwarf is being cleaned.

The harpies aren't your main problem, ya know. You may walk the fast as you can, but moon will rise and you will know why you feel the night!
You can surround yourself with campfires and go to sleep in relative safety. I did that once when I was in an elven retreat and nobody would join me. I was woken up by a night creature who sat on top of me, bragged about a kill, and then stared at me creepily like a diplomat, but the night creature went away after a few attempts at sleeping. They can teleport through campfires when you're passing time in the map screen.

Drawing and strapping weapons appears to be instantaneous, or very close to it. It's safer to have one hand for grabbing and one hand holding a shield, though going from weapon + shield to bare hand + shield requires you to go into the menu.

I'm a fan of biting. Sometimes when I try and stab people in the throat it bounces off, but a bite and shake can open up an artery even if the initial bite only bruised.

Edit: This behaviour can be altered through modding if you wish to do so and I believe the information on how to do so is available on the wiki so I suggest you check there for how.
look under the orientation tag
That's a pretty cool thing for Toady to do.

The strangest thing is that, in theory, all creatures spawned in the arena are average in size/stats. I don't think they vary. Still, some will be bugged, some won't. Totally random.
They can vary. I left 10 GSW to air-drown, and butchered the corpses.

Bone: 1339 - 1690
Meat: 5596 - 7048
Intestines: 1382 - 1740
Fat: 1209 - 1523

Those two extremes came off the same two animals.

Getting out of your own home:

1. Try fast travelling (t) until you find the Fortress Entrance. You might have to toggle the map a few times (m).
2. Wander around the larger, 3-wide corridors until you find a ramp. That's the central shaft, and you need to go up it to get outside.

Once you're out, you can do whatever you please. Asterisks on the fast travel map are encounters, which can be anything from a large wild animal to a night creature. I prefer to stop one tile away and sneak into the encounter area.

You can also turn on tracking (K) and follow the tracks of anything that looks suitably dangerous.

Dwarf Therapist might do it, once it's updated with its .34 functionality. I don't know if it ever worked that way in Adventure Mode, but it did work in the Arena.

In other news, my little companion is all grown up. *sniff*

Also I might or might not have figured out the river thing. The one time she did go right across, I jumped across the river. The rest of the time, I've been swimming normally and she hasn't followed me. What I've been doing is nudging into her to make her change places with me, moving her across a tile at a time. I just tried jumping again, and she didn't follow me. Most peculiar.

Maybe he meant the exact numbers?

Anyway, after boasting about my kobold kills I found a dwarf who thought it was good to see me and so I asked her to join me. Success! She can swim too -- I crossed a river expecting to have to do some fast-travel shenanigans to get her over the other side, but she followed me right across without drowning. I noticed in .34 that some dwarven civs would have every (adult at least) migrant at Novice Swimming skill, so it's probably that.

So I looked at my rooms in my current fort and found.

Ignore it unless you can very quickly deal with the FPS hell that it unleashes.

Lever-operated menacing spikes are good, but might be torn apart by fiery death throes. In that case, save your nicest stuff for the end of the corridor. You can make spike traps more effective by having a setup like this:

(The spikes go where the pool of blood is.)

When creatures have multiple doors to destroy, they spread their efforts evenly between the doors. A single creature will spend a while on the spike tile beating at the doors, especially if its legs get taken out in an early attack.

Ah yes, I did dump Social Awareness this time. It should still be at 950 though.

I'll go out and shout about my deeds and find some goblins to kill, but if that fails I'll embrace the rocks and mud as I once embraced nature.

Hee.
