you can also have "flavour" failures. Like blood covering everything.
For nature altars this could even be the blood of the creature sacrificed!
It's too bad vermin can't be created properly, or that could be a good "failure" for altars - demon roaches!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?

I'm testing out if I can create eggs in a nest using a custom reaction so that I can speed up the birth process and create armies with out need of migrants or recruiting.

edit: egg laying creature with no children tag + a hatching utility = cloner.

Reminds me of Starship Troopers for some reason.
more so this except you have to make another window/tab of the site each time it the song loops to get the full effect and replace babies with interns.
because each "INTERN" shoots out about 10 to 50 eggs which hatch to a fully grown child.

I had to move all these interns to a dark elf fortress to store them all and I had 307 interns came back and had one intern shoot out 34 interns who all drop in total around 300 eggs.
I'm set for companions. shame I done this on a island with no hostility.

waait. You got this to work? Raws? Details?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: above ground fortress
« on: June 14, 2011, 03:46:06 pm »
You can stay aboveground entirely, but you need a fuel source for most of the creative stuff in the game. Embark in a super dense forest or better yet volcano-in-a-forest. Clay Bricks and Glass Blocks can then become your FREE BUILDING MATERIAL!

At the very least, don't forget to bring at least one stone. You will need it for firesafe applications. If you don't do this, then for many years your fortress will be a wooden palisade that can't make anything much except extreemely pricey alcohol and cooked foodstuffs.

I agree about walling off as much of the map as possible. I'd suggest embarking with massive amounts of wood/stone for this purpose.

I love this mod. It's insane! Glad it's still going in some form or other.

You can just chalk it up to adventurer forgetfulness.

The elves are on to something with the trees. When you're not watching, they move. And they rearrange the lanscape. It's to try and trap unwary adventurers who light them on fire for the lulz.

I started a little strip, but I've only made 2 so far.  Don't know when I'll get around to continuing it.

Yak nervous tissue bolt (25). Never actually fired one, resulted from me messing up the tags when modding...

I'm fairly certain that there is no such skill.

Yeah, I'd change that to HAMMER if I were you.

Shouldn't it be COMEDY? :D

FUN-ny guy. Ha. Ha.

I plan on maxing out my music stat, obtaining a steel mask, and living in the catacombs.
I shall make my lair beneath the Opera Meeting Hall and toy with the mundane folk in the aboveworld.

Ah. So pretty much corner them off in their own little quarantined section? Damn. Oh well. When my fortress grows, I'll probably create factories of sorts with some stockpiles, and plenty of stone, all for the purpose of creating a lot.

Thanks for your answer :)

They don't need to be "quarantined" any more. That's the beauty of the burrow system. They do have to have their own food/drink stockpiles in there, though. At least, they did last time I used this trick (poor, poor crafters, off hunting vermin and dehydrating to husks.)

What does the game expect you to do with the corpses of your enemies?
Dump 'em in magma. They have pretty much no use at all.
Enemy PARTS that decompose into bones are useful, though. Make bone bolts out of 'em.

New release!

http://df.zweistein.cz/soundsense/soundSense_26_121.zip

Brand new automatic update functionality for soundpacks: Go to "soundpack update" tab, press button. SS should then start downloading changes to packs - when it is done all you need is to restart ss and new stuff should be in (which is, if you have most recent pack, some stuff for when dwarf is stung by bee.)

Beware: it will eradicate customized changes. It is also quite experimental stuff, so beware again :-)

Sounds pretty awesome. Trouble is, I avoid auto-updates as much as possible, especially "experimental" ones.
I'm loving the bee updates, though. Poor poor bee bitten dwarves.

This is going to sound really weird, but man, what was it with the 90's and background music like that? It sucks.

It sure does. I couldn't find a clean news clip, though.

Chances are they'll play that same clip, I bet all the networks are frantically digging for stock footage of tomahawk launches as we speak

I'm sure they will, the Gulf War is what made CNN what it is today. They wont even have to dig too hard - those clips I linked were played like 100 times an hour, it felt like. They've got to still be around (without the crappy music, even!)

I guess that means the cat was killing things well I was sleeping next to it's lair? Man I am a sucky hero.

What kind of leather was it? It could also have teleported up from the underground where some beastman was hoarding it - those are pretty obvious, though. Because they are of things that don't exist above ground.

On CNN, fighter gets and tomahawk missiles in the air.

Does the footage look anything like this?

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-8Eevs2IL7y8/uss_missouri_gulf_war_tomahawks/

Because man did that footage get overplayed back then.

I got a job to kill a big old tiger, so I went to the place but it was not there. I have been waiting around for it for like four days and the only change is a piece of leather appears to be crawling towards me well I sleep.

Anyone know how to find this cat?

Edit: A explanation of why some leather is trying to sneak up on me would be nice as well.

Edit: aaaand seconds after I posted this I found the cat.

The leather (now joined by sheets of skin!) is still creepy though.

I think it's from the cat's kills. Megabeasts do that, anyways.
