well, wouldn't it spread the fire to any flammable objects nearby?
Simple answer? Not everything. Not likely (except grass)

I've been looking, but no one seems to have any good numbers on the interactions between spec_heat and fires. Just that some fires will ignite some things but not others. Like cloth vs. leather vs. trees.

Basically, allow your cats to breed freely in the engine room, and strap all the kittens to the gears!

The eyes disturb me the most about being eaten by a pile of sentient poop.

That seems a bit odd.  I'd expect it to be the getting fatally digested that would disturb you the most.

It keeps it's spare eyes inside, so it can watch you being digested.

WOW. can I have the seed for that? it sounds glorious! and Fun!
I wish the site finder had Sand included like Flux is.

This is somewhat realistic in that real oceans don't freeze (except at the north and south poles but even then the ice is only a few feet thick) due to ocean circulation. However, if you have an unconnected ocean which is 100% in a freezing biome (which happens alot on DF maps) it should freeze solid into a giant glacier.

...ok, since i use the 'heathen Metric', I knew it as 3-4 meters for the true northern ice cap. that'd be 10 to 13 feet, and there are much thicker "ridges", like any regular glacier.

If that translated in-game, complete with the ridges for materials supply, that's more than enough to build a crazy ice-house on. Especially since dwarves apparently scoff at lead poisoning. (getting booze might end up a problem until 'vermin-juice' is enabled)

you can't make cloth usable for construction. You'd have to fake it - smelting the cloth into something else - probably a rock block.

I know leather will be used for wals eventually, or at least decoration, because I keep getting worldgen events telling me my civilization is now mostly  turned into leather adorning the walls of Wickedmurders the EvilGodless of IncestSpawn.

..but not yet.

are there any oceans that NEVER melt? I'm  not talking glaciers here, but 1 level ice floes over the ocean. That's what I want to ebark on. The fun possibilities are endless.
