[filthy clothing] adds a level of decision making in the early game: do I use this cool zombie loot armour because I need armour, or do I reject it because it's disgusting and dirty.
I'd say it's never worth it, since it gives you disease. It doesn't matter how well armored you are if you have influenza.
I will sometimes wear filthy gear such as a backpack (if it is the only one I've found) or fireman's turnout gear if I need the protection but I only do so until I am able to clean it, which is usually very quickly. The trade-off is worth it for short term gains but I don't wear them for long

TIL that soap is rare

Having mods bundled with the game sets an expectation that those mods are somehow 'official' and should work with no effort. If they left the unmaintained mods bundled with the game they'd be buried under bug reports as soon as they made any change that conflicted with one of them.

Yeah I don't see why you'd be obligated to maintain mods that you didn't create and aren't interested in. If someone likes them so much they should pick them up and update/fix them.

The ease of application and use is the clincher
Not sure what you mean. The ease of application and use wouldn't change. If someone were maintaining them they'd stay bundled with the game and nothing would change.

I guess that's not gonna be a go any more? That sucks.
I'm pretty sure they'd stay where they are if someone stepped up to maintain them. The point is that the main developers don't want to maintain mods that have been abandoned by their creators or no longer fit with the direction they're taking the game. They don't seem to care if someone else maintains them.

Thank you I'll try that later. No files I need to change? Just enter the command?
Just enter that command into the dfhack window where you'd run any other script or commands like autolabor.

For the 'glowing' you have to ensure you have TWBT on and in the forced redraw mode. type twbt redraw_all 1 into the dfhack window. It makes things made from ethereal blocks and a few other things glow.

I've played with it briefly, planning to do a more in-depth fort this weekend and will give feedback. Tempted to do a Lets Play of it actually

Stuff like this is why I always give console to PC ports a month or two before even thinking of touching them. I am very excited about iceborne but it will all be there when I get it later and I hopefully won't hit the same bugs. I really enjoyed MHW much more than I expected I would, I only picked it up because it was on deep sale one day. I've never really liked any of the souls-like games, not that this is super comparable, but I really enjoyed MHW. Never played any of the prior MH games either.

Once I do pick it up in a few months I'll ping here and see who is still playing, we can team up

What I mean is that for what you said before it's kind of open.

Rather, let me rephrase this: imagine... that I like playing minecraft to explore the map and kill, say, spiders and creepers. Could this game plausibly cover that itch?
You can certainly go out on expeditions into the maps to do your own thing, hunting monsters outside of quests and exploring the areas. The maps are all set though, they're not procedurally generated. They're fairly large and have some interesting things hidden away on them, and you get access to new ones as you go through the storyline.

Congratulations! I didn't have the patience for this game's style of gameplay. I can understand the appeal of figuring out clues and advancing, but the level to which everything is made vague and deliberately obtuse to add a layer of difficulty turned me off from it. I admire that you were able to stick it out to handle such a complex achievement.
It's really not so bad once you put some time in. The game encourages experimentation to discover things but it does give you hints along the way. Like rituals, you have no idea what to put in but the game will subtly guide you with hints if you start putting different aspects in. You can also get some clues if you carefully read the descriptive texts of some books, locations, item, etc. My very first minor victory was just to retire with a nice senior position at G&G and leave all the cult nonsense behind, heh.

Once you figure out a good steady stream of income you have a lot of time to mess about and explore the lore. If that is too slow for you, you can always look some things up.

It's also worth noting that even having THE BEST armor and equipment in the game is no guarantee to success. I've seen very good players with very good gear get in an unfortunate situation or suffer a momentary lapse and get annihilated by something. It can happen very quickly

forsaken, I found that to be quite hilarious. I noticed the AI broke roughly here:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It looks like it expected a quote and got an action instead. That or somehow cthulhu was inside the tower.
Yeah, I saved right there because of that weird response. It went downhill pretty fast but it still remembered the doctor and I'm apparently very special.

Edit: Yes, if you're seeding you are helping. When it goes to download the files now it starts a torrent download rather than the old method of sending data through google's cloud which was costing them something like 10k a day
