why shouldn't people under the influence of drugs be jailed, even for one night?
Becuase while they may have a higher chance of commiting a crime. They have not commited a crime.
Yes they have. They took illegal drugs. That's a crime.

And yes, anyone can hurt anyone if they really try. Intentionally doing things that cause this risk to skyrocket is something that should be discouraged.
I disagree.
Really? You don't think the law should try to improve safety and order?
Not by doing unjust things.
It's not unjust. Did you fail reading comprehension in middle school and high school or something? I told you why those laws exist.
And I told you why I think their unjust. The law makes an assumption. I dont think people should be judged on assumptions no matter how reasonable you think they are.
It's not an assumption. It's simple statistical fact that people on drugs, and people addicted to drugs, are many, many times more likely to commit other crimes. The best way to deter it, and to pre-empt it, is to attack the root cause: drug use.
Statistics aren't facts and pre-emptive attacks based on statistics are based on assumption.

"I assume this guy will commit a robbery becuase he is on crack"
Wrong. It's more like, "Statistics show that people who use these narcotics will likely commit other crimes. Therefore, these narcotics should be forbidden, and those using them should be locked up for their own protection, and the protection of others."

So you feel justified in breaking the law, as long as you disagree with it personally? That sort of disregards the entire point of them being laws as opposed to suggestions. Hell, I'll bet a lot of murders think their acts are perfectly justifiable as well.
Why do you follow the law? Becuase all of it's justified or becuase some of it's justified?

I follow the law because the laws we have promote a safe and orderly society.

Firing guns is fun. I went to a shooting range just outside Las Vegas a couple years ago, and was able to fire a fully-automatic variant of the M-16. Not exactly sure what the designation was, but yeah. It was a lot of fun. The recoil was surprising at first, but I figured out how to control it reasonably quickly.

Fun fact, this LP has the second most replies in the entire Play With Your Buddies subforum, just behind an old Sims 2 LP.

That's exactly my point. It's a closed system, therefore entropy in it will necessarily increase, on the whole. Not disagreeing with you at all there.

Ah, kay, sorry, I misunderstood.

He did illegal drugs. Illegal. Against the law. Wrong. Understand yet?
I dont think doing illegal drugs is wrong. The law is wrong.

I do however think doing harm to others is wrong. He was doing no harm to anyone.

Good god you're naïve. Do you have any concept whatsoever of the crimes associated with the drug trade? The robbery by addicts trying to score some money to get a fix? The murder by dealers and users who are trying to knock off competition, or just go nuts from their drug usage? Do you have any idea at all?
Yeah I do, but this guy never robbed or murdered anyone. You cant associate him with things he did not do. He is innocent.
But if he's on illegal drugs, he's breaking the law. Laws which are there because people sometimes do that because of the drugs.
I dont care if he broke the law. The law is wrong.

He could have hurt someone, but anyone can hurt someone. When will you get that I only care about what he really did? He is innocent.
No he's fucking not innocent. Illegal drugs are illegal for the reasons I stated earlier. What you're basically saying is that you don't give two shits about the rule of law.

I think we have one perpetual motion device; It's called the Universe :P

Not really, no. Eventually everything will run out of potential energy and nothing more will happen. So it's not perpetual.

To put it in other words: The Universe is still a closed system. In fact, if you want to get ridiculously technical, it's the only system that's actually 100% closed.
Yeah, I know it's a closed system. But the fact remains that it will eventually run out of potential energy (the ability to do work).

Based on your answers to the quiz, your character’s most likely alignment is Lawful Neutral.

Lawful Neutral

A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount to her. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. The common phrase for lawful neutral is "true lawful." Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot.
