How'd they mine the rock?
Screaming them apart.

You gotta get the pitch and frequency right if you want to resonate them off the walls.

Behold "The Halls of Screaming", named after the method from which it was carved out. Has excellent acoustics.

Wierd Al's singing "Tacky" on Conan. Hilarious.

Florida, USA

Base: Vice City

Possible (media?) explanation: Tommy Vercetti just bought out X-Com. He harvests his assets from them monthly. With his connections, he can dick around with the countries as much as he sees fit; of course, the aliens just had to rummage through his turf. Considering they intend to take over by removing his influence in the world, they're gonna pay.

Nice to see a company with a sense of humor.

InMomentum

Sure, it's minimalistic in looks; sure, it may be a bit of a Mirror's Edge knock-off; sure, it's a platformer from hell on harder difficulties; but damn, if it isn't fun. I got it off a bundle, and actually looked forward to it from what I saw.

This is a freerunning playground (actually, the level Freestyle is a better example) that you can absolutely bolt through. No guns (actually, it's more a checkpoint gun that's made to knock out gates that make levels harder to go through. And in multiplayer, it briefly slows your opponent(s).), no monsters, no other goals but the finish line/gate.

I think most reviewers are Graphics=Good Game, and are also likely under-/un-skilled platformers/gamers. Then again, I'm also the opposite end of that spectrum (I don't give as much a crap about graphics (8-bit era, I started in; Commodore-64 FTW!), and I'm surprisingly more competent than initially expected; and a tad suicidally confident at times.), but at least I'm open-minded to it, and other newer games and indie games in general. Plus, despite being minimalistic, it's surprisingly immersive (you can sorta feel your speed without looking at the speedometer; which helps with timing a good jump). So much, that I want it to be Oculus-Compatible. Being made in Unreal Engine 3, I hope it's standard to the point of being an option (3rd-party, or provided by devs).

In similar vein:

Cloudbuilt

This game is also pretty damn fun; though reviews are scattered since the sales (Some seem to not be fans of challenges or Sonic/Megaman). Think InMomentum, except instead of minimalistic, it's cel-shaded beauty. And instead of building up speed the normal way, you have a jetpack, that assists in wallrunning (vertically and horizontally), walljumping, and jumping long gaps. Oh yeah, and you have a blaster like Mega Man (though no robot masters to snag abilities from) to assist you through levels, knocking out robots, or blasting gates apart. Storyline involves being post-coma after an accident or war, and this is your path to recovery; this game (Sounds similar to IM's initial storyline (all there in the manual), before they tossed it, and dedicated it to freestyle/freerunning racing). Fuck what people say, this game is pretty damn fun (and frustrating in certain levels), though a bit more intense graphically than InMomentum, but the extra juice used is worth it, because damn, is it pretty.

EDIT:
One major gripe I would agree with about InMomentum is it's lacking playerbase to multiplay against. Negative reviews don't help this one bit. Quit your bitching, newbies, and stop ruining it for the rest of the more competent ones that DO actually want to race ninja-style. Go back to Skyrim, DOTA, or WoW, or some other popular location that accepts your conformist nature (Sorry to hipsterfy there for a bit; but this behavior still pisses me off. Call me an old man, but really...). I still check from time to time to see if anyone's on, nonetheless.

EDIT EDIT:
Speaking of lacking multiplayer games that need players again:

Super Laser Racer (Or as I have been commented: "The most videogame named videogame ever.")

Super Mario Kart/Wipeout (Death Race) meets Tron (vector graphics), viewed from above (2D). More fun than it looks and sounds, and has some pretty nifty music to it. Reason for lacking popularity. As you'd guess, vector-style graphics aren't cool. Not hip. Not SWAG. Not chill. Not "bad". Not (INSERT LAME-PAST-IT'S-PRIME SLANG/LINGO). That, and like I also said before, maybe they suck so terribly at the game, they downvote because victory isn't spoonfed to them.

I play this with my brothers online every other week, and it's hilarious, fun, and difficult most the time. We need Bay-12 servers for this game. It demands it. Toss in Steam Chat, Google+, or Teamspeak, or anything else that can allow for vocally/verbally abusing other players as you get mauled to death in the game. The unrefined anger from other players (and sometimes your own) is half the fun of this game.

Managed to beat RedRunRPS in less than 10 minutes on Impossible difficulty. Climbing this level ████ing sucks!!!!

That means:
-1 walljump per-wall (corners and opposing walls come handy for some serious walljumping action; only way to really ascend)
-Mid-air redirection is much less forgiving.
-No mid-air jumping (which can be mistaken as a second-chance walljump)
-Regular gravity (About a little higher than you can really jump IRL; and that includes walljumps. ...Yeah.)
-Regular acceleration (however, an acceleration bug can still be used to your advantage (Bunny-hopping, basically, is a valid tactic); albeit, your chances only suck that much less. They still suck.)
-In summary: This is a platforming nightmare, with ninja-parkour from Hell, which may require lessons from other videogames that involve walljumping (Think of being Samus in Super Metroid with the first time you MUST walljump to get where you need to go (Spring Ball upgrade, I think it was). Ugh. Now make that a 1st-person ordeal.).
-Did I forget to mention that this is a rather tall level? Not the highest/tallest, but it still requires some climbing effort, and long jumps (150 km/s minimum, to be safe-ish on your jumping, with maybe a walljump to add some extra distance; 50-50 chance of success, depending on your aim/trajectory and reflexes to jump further and/or catch yourself on the other platform if you JUST short it.).

InMomentum

A rather under-rated game here. 3D-Platforming at it's finest. I hope it eventually becomes Oculus Rift-compatible. That would be awesome.

EDIT:
Since the game operates on Unreal Engine 3, I think it would come standard with OR; naturally, post-update.

Started rewatching Gurren Lagaan. I forgot how awesome this show was.

EDIT:
Might as well add in Samurai Champloo to the mix as well.

I mentally pictured a normal oven smoking a joint.
It probably won't sell too well in the market. Everything you make with it is always half-baked.
You should be stoned to death for that.
We can both stone him! It'll be a joint operation!

General Discussion / Re: The Dream Thread
« on: July 15, 2014, 07:08:46 pm »
I think I had myself a rather satisfying dream. Basically, in this world, pretty much everyone in it hated me and apparently the recurring redhead girl (Maybe it's too red? I nickname her 'fireball'; though it''s more scarlet red; but glows like fire in sunlight. Considering a "freak" like her... Why is she disliked again? Maybe they think she has no soul?), to the point that we were deemed nonexistent to them. Hell, I think they were even so disgusted with us or something that they even had an attitude no different from germophobia.

Anyway, it apparently took place in a location sorta as an expy of my college; similar in build, different place overall, but essentially the same feel (A procedural generation of the same places). Anyway, I think I was in Hell or something, because I was in a situation that would amount to a psychological nightmare. EVERYBODY hates me, to the point that laws were made against my existence and so forth; even to the point of considering me nonexistent. I mean, it was seemingly real life, with a bullied past distortion, frappe'd and turned up to 11; well-blended and potent while at it.

Anyhow, the dream world Hell, as far as I was able to conclude researching it with my reheaded companion, happened to have left a loophole in it, or an oversight that made this Hell into a veritable Heaven. They said nothing about co-mingling with others deemed nonexistent. Knowing the kind of people me and this cute girl are (super-smart, and despite her angelic looks, sinister as fuck. She wanted her fun too. It was clear.); we exploited the hell out of it, and the environment already locked us in for a full 4-hour long class about... something utterly pointless, like Pop-Culture Politics or some BS (The Kardashian Royal Bloodline was an actual slide, complete with British Royalty treatment.).

Anyhow, we went nuts with everything we figured out, understood, and even found a mysterious booklet containing all the laws made against us. Essentially, we took the time to research everything before we pulled pranks, rigged setups, had desk fort battles during the class (staple guns hurt), and [REDACTED]. Basically, in a universe that absolutely hates your guts with no cause, and with extreme prejudice, but is prevented from causing harm to you (or even taking notice), or otherwise your existence would be acknowledged, or somesuch; making everyone over there feel as uncomfortable as possible, while being the personification of the term happy, is utterly satisfying. If I was in Hell, then I think I got hired to be a tormenter. Hell, thanks for one of the funnest jobs ever. Payback's a bitch, ain't it, people.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: I am My Own Worst Enemy

Have you played the original Tomb Raider or Anniversary? It's the bacon Lara in DF!
Beat it last year, I think (timeless classic. St. Francis Folly is still a cool level. Definitely engineering worthy of DF replication.). That is exactly what it is.

Kinda off-topic, but what kind of weapons does Bacon-Lara have? I mean, you whip out your weapons on her, and she mimicks; are those guns made of meat? Do they shoot teeth or something?

Sounds like a fell weapon idea. Fund it!

Reading all this, basically, you have an AI-posessed "voodoo doll bug" (in programming terms, a clone that harms a copy in Corsican Brotherly manner (one takes the damage of the other at the same time)).

For contextual clarity: Basically, it means your clone, that should normally be non-reactive (based on many other games that featured this bug, like Doom, and many other classic titles.), has been possessed by an AI. Which, needless to say, is terrifying. You defeat it, you die.

Come and think of it. Did Toady unintentionally program Voodoo Dolls in-game? I mean, if we can itemize/weaponize this feature (make it non-AI-possessed... sorta. And by our own terms, like clay dummies and such), then we can produce more literal voodoo dolls (as in-game items) for tribes to use on passing adventurers.

Oh, the possibilities.

A necromancer, or some creature, creates a duplicate of their target, and with a hand in magic, is able to remotely damage them to their heart's content. Of course, I would advise stockpiling dolls if you have any intent on wiping out a town, or taking over it, by being a more literal example of a puppetmaster of the upper class.

Is it possible to disarm a trap once you have located it?
It's called expendable partnerships. AKA- Redshirt Squads.

I think the adamantine spire has been attempted, many times, and all were failures. Short story: Plenty of crashes or colonies of bugs occurring.
