DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Draw your adventures
« on: August 02, 2009, 11:41:53 pm »
Meh, what the hell, a carbon-copy reply to a carbon-copied post.

Here is my story:

I modded my game so i could start as a bronze collusus, just to see how much stuff i could kill. After  going through and slaying everyone i could see in a random human town, I came across the survivors, 3 children.

After a short fight one of the children managed to kill me with one punch, without and of the children coming to any harm themselves.

The end

(apologies for my lack of drawing skill)
All those children needed then was a big ol' orchestrated battle theme as they slayed you. That would've been epic. I think they found the weak points and jabbed them out of commission.

Came up with this one.

EDIT:
...and looking at my choice of icon; "Are you my mum?"

It honistly ISENT that hard to just tell em to Smooth the walls...I think the only time you cant is if you keep making forts in hills of Loam or something Like I keep doing...
Imagine being able to build sand castles (not converted into glass, that's cheating. Literally sand castles).

Wouldn't that be funny.

Here's a little something I made while dwarfing the forums. A little bit of bastardization of nature in a very dwarfy way.

Behold, the worst thing to ever encounter... Bred by yours truly... The n-th wonder of the world:

A CARIPPOPARPAMUS!!!!

Carippo for short

EDIT:
I'll try to color it in when I have some free time.

If possible, be sure to also include a screencap function as well in the future. With options including either to include atmospheric backgrounds (when developed) with the cap, or not (IE- transparent BG, possible PNG saves) in case anyone feels like including a custom BG via Photoshop or something. I dunno.

Printscreen/paint method gets annoying after awhile.

Idea for regulating flow, and underflow prevention.

Be sure to have an auxiliary pump, triggerable, of course, pumping outside of the unit. Doing so for a split-second, or having an automatic mechanism that handles that at a properly timed interval (IE- Clock Mechanism). That would then solve the cardiac arrest that occurs.

One pump should do fine regardless of the size. Heck, you can even pump into a temporary evaporation (if above ground) reservoir that can flow back in if too much water is collected, of course, with a manual pump (for precision). But if it works properly, it won't require it. But one can't be too safe now could they?

Hmm 3GB of DF stuff. Though, I have never cleaned it out as i have plenty of space to spare. It's getting pretty hard to navigate through it all, and finding the right DF folder as I haven't really named any in a recognizable order. Haha, the way i do it now is i label the folder I am currently playing as 'currently playing' or something else to that affect. Only problem is I now have 3 folders named like this so i don't know which one i am actually playing  :-\ . I don't suggest this organization method to others...

IMG=Folders hehe.
Hmm, I have a similar way, of course seperating from simple changes and whatnot. Kinda wish I remember to use a fresh installation instead when I first started it. It takes a bit to delete all those exrta images as well as saves and gens. Though, it does make some things interesting if adding/removing things in during a game can alter the universe.

Like, for example, I have a well running fort, and now all of a sudden, my livestock is overrun with brahmin from the fallout mod, or something like that.

Kinda gives me an idea for the side. How about I try to mod stuff in as I play? Like the nuclear catsplosion thing, except have them babbling as well or something like that, and not nuclear, just plain burning, while (if possible) fireproof, but still feeling pain? Sounds fun. Heck, I'll even see if I can genetically mutate all my local cats into carippos or something.

EDIT:
BTW, Boatmurdered Sucessor; is it related to Boatmurdered in any way? (IE, is the location/save?) If so, UPLOAD!

I figure... oh, what the hell!

I have something to celebrate the 5000+ benchmark.

How do you feel about a 3D representation of the WIP so far? No, no 3Dwarf here;
something a tad better (to many various degrees): Visual Fortress: another 3D visualization app

I like it. You can easily tell wood and copper apart (relevant to my project).

Consider this my review of the program as well.

Bridges need to be renderable soon.

EDIT:
I just realized, you can really easily tell where my dwarves have been by looking through this. The dense forest has a massive bald spot on it, dedicated to the megaproject.

For full effect, I'd like to see bridges rendered soon enough.

These ones taken from Achievement Unlocked (IMG heavy) in the Dwarf Mode Forum. It seemed more relevant to this page.

And a few new ones:

Or better yet, into one of your targeted towns/civs. Preferably Elf. Leading to...

Holy crap, I got some really good ones. Each separated by category. Many of them are funny, others are pure horrifying. Especially the carp and tentacle demon. Yikes.

DF General Discussion / Re: C Map Encoder
« on: July 28, 2009, 11:58:51 pm »
I hope it can read multi-dashed/cut-off names. I'm getting tired of renaming all of my map exports from Bloodfist-Sky-Fo-##-##### to Bloodfist-##-#####. Especially when I have tons of layers to process.

For some odd reason, the default encoder can't take care of it. It keeps on reading the first in line, and only processes that one, when there are roughly 20+ most the time, and I want it all done in one shot. It's one of the other reasons it takes me a bit longer to update than preferable.

Alternative to that is guiding me to a proper renaming program if possible, otherwise I'll just fight the carp, and keep going my old method.

EDIT:
By mean of renaming, kinda a universal renamer that allows renaming of sections of same/similar named files. Much like the map series images. All this, but not renaming the rest of the files. Much like the example I provided above. Basically, edit the constant, but not affect the variable with file names.
