DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What is your current project?
« on: July 12, 2009, 08:05:14 pm »
Check out my sig.

It's an airship I designed on paper before I started working on it. For a better view of what I had planned, I included a lego construction.

I'm taking an unmodded approach (aside no-cave-ins so I can actually BUILD it) to this project, as well as thinking semi-realistically with some of the construction (sky and ground), as well, I'm going uber-detailed and making it as beautiful visually (while playing) as it is engineering-wise. Of course, I'm keeping it somewhat open to the community to toss in advice and references and whatnot if they feel like it; and who knows, I might even toss in cameos.

It's being done in a semi-LP form, sort of. More like, there's backstory into the construction of the ship and history with the crew that builds it and ship it ;D to their kingdom. But, with a ship of god, what would you do; especially considering the sacrifices that went into it; only to have it probably collect dust in the king's archive; or to be abused by nobility?

Again, the project's not dead. I just have been getting some really busy work days (carping real life and tourists). Can't get anything done lately.

Depending on whether I can complete it or not; and especially when I finish it. I'll be offering it to everyone to modify if the feel up to it. Being a fortress of god, it'll span across realities. Meaning, everyone can take a crack at making an alternate reality, based on the departure of the ship (or final touches, whatever happens first).

(So I won't have to necro-edit my post in case I change my sig, Bloodfist The Sky-Fortress of God AKA Armok's Gauntlet.)

HOLY SHITBURGERS.
Sounds delish.

Magic-powered cooked excrement? That should fetch for a good amount; and being dwarven, it would probably have some spawn included in it naturally. You know dwarves digest plump helmets like corn.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Underground fortress or Castle?
« on: July 10, 2009, 10:53:43 pm »
It usually depends on the situation, and what it would call for.

Like my previous, more successful, fort: Mostly underground, partly above (mostly farmland and barracks/archery range/outpost and tree farms); though lacking in HFS and magma. If anything, it was more of a fractal-fort with plenty of inspirations strewn about. But in most cases, underground due to the ability to make some epic dining rooms easy.

As for access to some fun stuff, hidden or not, it also depends, am I going to Rube it up with some Goldberg action, and unleash Hell as a self-defense measure; or utilize a "fuck the world" lever that burns my enemies and let's Hell loose as it coats the land in a delicious shell of obsidian (magma burns a wooden door keeping them inside)? And to make things more interesting, have a bridgeapult to launch them (magma-enhanced HFS) into the seiges?

Hmm... choices, choices....

Ooh, nasty idea.

Edible/cookable/brewable vomit.

I leave the rest to your imaginations... >_<

EDIT:
It should fetch for something in the elven communities however. They'll think it's moss.

I have a funny idea. Why not make a dwarf-pyramid with all of them facing opposing directions from each other and have a vomit-fountain?

Or if it does become a true liquid, utilize screw pumps to do the work for them?

Gem Setter gets mood. Gem Setter claims workshop. Gem Setter creates...
"Tomemgim, "Grouptwists", a Tsavorite coffin" ???
Sounds like you'll have to watch out when zombie dwarf babies (a Zombinfantsplosion) pour out of that thing. I mean, if it's made for more than one dwarf (and I mean more than one), and used; and the deceased become zombies, well...

That sounds fun and awesome actually. ;D

I just recently got a basalt quern made which is called Tabarenas, The Faithful Doctrines;

On it is an image of two chestnuts.

A little bit of innuendo mayhaps?

Oh man, this is getting rough, and we haven't even begun building yet. :'(

If I fail, anyone can feel free to continue this where I left off.

Ever try launching a royal air force (a series of paper planes) with bottle rockets?

I attempted to and nearly burned my yard down. I will perfect the build.

It seems 1 BR does better than 2 or 3 apparently. Well, I guess it would make sense.

Other silliness done was also firing a mortar into the launcher, That was pretty neat. Or trying to use a bottle rocket by launching the bottle. A good *thunk* and glass everywhere. It didn't launch as well as I thought. A neat effect to do is set off a smoke bomb or a few, and drop it into a container of water. The container gets ruined, but the after-effect looks like a Jackson Pollock painting.

What other bits of silliness was there? Oh, another BR one; throw a frisbee or punt a football using only BRs.

I do not submit to your feeble yankee holiday!  ;D

Australian here. I'll just sit here on the computer, as always.

no fireworks...

just discussion of magma.

 :'(
Feeble? You call senseless blowing up of things and manufacturing even more spectacular kabooms feeble?

At least discuss how magma can be used as a sort of geyser security system or something. As well as flinging lignite ignite bin bombs into booze stocks a distance from a fort for spectacular kabooms. Especially if the lignite bin is ignited through that very geyser into the booze-pile.

Hell, even have the exploding booze rain down a pyramid of booze setting off a chain reaction that leads to a Rube Goldberg-esque ending.

That, or how a magma pipe is a giant snake incarnate with the right tools. Just think South Park.

You don't need to be American to celebrate the 4th of July; you just need explosions. I mean, even my dwarves will celebrate and they don't know a carping thing about America or that it even exists.

They're just compelled that for some reason, every Early-Limestone, they have to detonate something, otherwise Armok will not be pleased.

8846
Actually, that was for RL.

In DF, I was thinking of making a bunch of beer'splosions all over the place.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Celebrating the 4th of July, Dwarven Style
« on: July 03, 2009, 08:40:41 pm »
In RL or DF; how will you celebrate?

I was thinking of grilling some hot cats and some gobbo burgers over an open pit of magma, and guzzle down some dwarven wine. As for fireworks, have some cats suspended high atop a couple tall pillars and then set them thermonuclear.

Anyone else?

Construct an obsidian monolith in an area where rhesus macques are dominant and always around and watch them evolve. ;D

Make Dwatlas. A kneeling dwarf statue carrying a bowl on his back which gets constantly filled with water from a water source. Link it to the eyes so you can make him cry, too.

For giggles, make it capable of crying magma, too.
Ooh, to make it more awesome, have it so the tear ducts operate in sequence using floodgates and pressure switches.

It can be either inside the structure itself ala dual valve (as one hits a switch, it opens the other and vice-versa; would take a while to work out the logistics, but it would be possible and cool looking), or you can have a cat randomly hitting the switches.

Something like this:

O=========O
X^ X^ X^ X   Right Eye
O=========O      Source
X^ X^ X^ X   Left Eye
O=========O

Trigger Operation:
4  3  2  1
O=========O
1L~3L 2L 4L   Right Eye  (Starter socket begins with some fluid halfway in like so in order to
O=========O      Source      keep a consistent pattern (manual over-ride may be required for this))
1R 3R 2R 4R  Left Eye
O=========O

3L and 3R may be dual-linked to the source instead.

Each pressure switch opens and closes the door in front of it in a 3-step cycle. The ones on the far end open/close the ones connected to the source. Hopefully with this setting (including the space before it) would allow proper size droplets as well as a proper sequence of operation.

Feel free to make adjustments.

It's just a concept; it may require a separate timer room with probably gates leading to individual switches using the same pipeline.

I have an idea; it's just a little bit WIP on how I'll tell it or implement it into construction.

Why not try and figure out what I'm up to?
