<snip>That, or we can try to preserve one and crossbreed it with a carp and have a true nightmare to unleash upon you elves.<snip>

<snip>after we're done breeding the Carippos.<snip>
And this is why dwarves always fail at breeding their sins against nature...May I suggest seeking the services of a wizard? You  at least get a huge explosion when their magic blows up on them, as it surely will.
Ah, but ye forget. We can pray to the Almighty Armok in which case he can "Mod" such a beast to exist amongst us.

The blood spilled in this battle will be more than enough to appease him.

...And this is why elves are near-worthless amongst us. They lack imagination, they lack proper gods, the only thing they excel at is dying; which, then again, is the only value they have amongst us.

The only reason we still allow you to tread on our land is so you can die on it for our blood god, as well as test our new experimental technology (for further blood-letting).

Duke has mandated the construction of certain goods: Hybrid Carp Hippo monstrosities.

I expect it to be done within the next few months. Or the hammerer will deal with you…once he finds his hammer. Oh, and I'm still waiting for my clear glass goblets.
...yeeah, About those goblets...

...You may not want them after we're done breeding the Carippos.

EDIT:
Then again, your bio may say otherwise. In that case... ew.

...even this elf thinks he (the duke) is nuts. Want some hippos? Untamed, of course, but i think that's what you want (sheesh, dwarf nobles...).
:Readies Lever:

I'm warning you. I know what you're up to. They appear untamed, but you trained them to act so. Then again, we can always use some hippo meat. That, or we can try to preserve one and crossbreed it with a carp and have a true nightmare to unleash upon you elves.

Did you try at least building an ark? Or even a submarine out of yellow stones?

So this hovel is to be your new duke's home? I suppose it's tolerable. Now, there are a few things that must be corrected if my illustrious presence is to grace this humble village.

I must have a big room! With an armor stand and a weapon rack!

And I must have my own dining room!

And an office!

And a proper tomb! Not one of those little nitches in the wall!

Oh, and make me some clear glass crafts! What was that? No sand here for making glass? Insolence! Don't give me your excuses! Hammerer, deal with this wretch!
Feel like being an inside-dwarf? You seem fit for the role. And I have an exquisite barrel for you, the accomodations are fitting for a dwarf like you.

Oh, and as for you Byakugan, your modified wagon is conveniently set right on top of my spike-strip. Dare fire another Elephant, and I'll pureé you and force feed your family with what little remains of you exist, and cook their remains for double-the-elven flavor.

:shouting to the other dwarves:
Looks like meat's back on the menu!!!

I generally go for uber-production.

With a supply of seeds for every type of plant, I just have a series of farm plots specialized for each separate crop. Works especially well for above-ground crops since they don't alternate. As for the underground ones, I only make the maximum amount of plots for a season with the most options, and plan accordingly from there.

It can be done well with 2x2 or 3x3 plots to save room, works well with irrigation farming. And it keeps plenty of variety to prevent bad thoughts. Given about a year, you have more than enough food, as well as some lavish foodstuff to trade, provided the skill of course.

the trapped one isnt FINISHED!

theres no screw pump!
Little do you know, we have an inside man.

Are you aware that one of the outgoing wagons to their hometowns has a legendary axe-crazy dwarf hidden within a barrel? Once he arrives, the town will be painted red, red in elven or human blood.

You know, just in case anyone manages to survive and escape our clutches.

Elves... Humans, be wary next time we welcome you with open arms and gift you with a glistening barrel of fun stuff, first thing. We emphasize on the word fun, we live it. Fun is Dwarfkind.

If you thought it was bad initially, check out the name of the leader.

Ras Tonguemutes? League of Balls?

This guy's a total nut. Then again, him being an elite bowman, you could get sacked by his skill if you get testy about the town. It would take some balls to do so, however.

Don't sell yourself short, it would be a long hard journey, and you may possibly be given the shaft if you fail on the quest laid before you. Then again, you may demise in the sod before long.

Enjoy your service, because I'm sure he did.

EDIT:
Aw crap, is he worshipping who I think he is?

EDIT2:
Oh man, I didn't notice that! Thanks DG.

Not sure if thats a complement or a snarky remark about my habit of stealing shit. Really could go either way.
When I read that, the first thought that came to mind was this topic: Dwarves Don't Poop

Adventure mode may get a little more interesting when it gets implemented (if possible). And you thought getting socked was bad...

Now you need green pipelines to go across shortcuts around the fortress, and maybe have a coin storage/deposit zone in between one set just for the heck of it.

And you know what? Let's have a dragon sitting on a rickety retractable bridge over some magma with an axe sitting on a pressure plate which triggers the bridge when removed. Just be sure to have a tower cap waiting there to remind the adventurer that the princess is in another fortress before you leave it.

"Humie: Greetings. The craftsdwarfship of the dwarves is unparalleled. Let's make a deal!"
Carping human, he's making "short" mockeries of us.

Fill his belly with magma!!!

"Werewolf..."
"Werewolf?"
"Where wolf? ...There, wolf ...There, castle."
"Why are you talking like that?"
"Oh, I thought you wanted me to."

That just came to mind when I read the title.

Next thing you know, whenever a dwarf named Fraubluka introduces herself, all the horses neigh.

EDIT: Fixed quote (Thanks Albedo)

Why not, to christen the advent of the Holy Ziggurat of Armok, the top cap is a cat-cage loaded to the brim with cats and make it go nuclear?

That would be epic, and Armok would be proud.

What about perpetual generators powering other perpetual generators? completely isolating itself from the original power source?

Blueprint: 1 starter PG (or PS) beginning a cycle of other PGs powering each other, even when the original starter PG is shut off; the others remain generating power for each other, as well as themselves, causing a self-sustained power station deep inside a mountain without any other connection to the water source (PS) to exist.

Or the mist machines? Where does all the energy and water come from?

And what about the Moses Devices? How can water be retained so well by mere wall of screw pumps?

Thanks Skorpion, you just reminded me:
Quantum storage cages.

And what about castles CITIES suspended by a single tile?

Now, underground river baddies, that is a different story.  Snakemen... *shivers*
Look at it this way. As long as there aren't Chryssalids with them, you're fine.

...Wrong game right? I could imagine how absolutely terrifying DF would be if they were included. Forget hippos, elephants, HFS, GCS, and carp; one of these guys can kill an entire well-guarded fortress alone, through replication/infection. Definitely a mod-worthy project to try out.
