DF Gameplay Questions / Are Invincible Creatures Gone?

I'm going to start playing again but was wondering if invincible creatures like sentient blobs of water are gone. And are bronze colossi still pretty much invincible? Are there other general glitchynesses still around from the underground update.

Hi!

While I sympathize with your loss of your dwarves, I have to agree with Nekoexmachina: That entire event does not contain any aspect of the game engine failing, but rather mistakes you made in managing your dwarves and the situation.

Well unkillable enemies are pretty lame and I believe they are the result of a glitch as well.

You need to make sure you have plump helmet spawn at the embark screen. Then once you make a farm plot and irrigate it you need to make sure you have plump helmet highlighted all year round.

The main things 40d does not have that the new versions does is the expansive underground forgotten beasts. I would say it would probably be a good idea to downgrade if you are just getting started.

Your CHALLENGE game is to use traps instead of military? I think that's a little backwords.

I had a DF dream last night too. I should have posted it earlier while it was fresh in my memory. After listening to the part of Dwarftalk 7 about magical artifacts I had this dream.

A forgotten beast showed up and soon after one of my dwarfs got possessed. He took the beast to a forge along with some iron. I'm not sure if the forgotten beast was already dead or he killed it or it was still alive or what but he took it to the workshop and came out with a artifact sword that contained the beasts soul. It said the sword was very powerful but should it break the forgotten beast would be free once again.

It sounds like Toady is hesitate to put magic in because when he does it is going to be a large undertaking. He want's it to be random and rare enough so that it stays mysterious and powerful.

Seems such a waist to use that on hell anyways. I would rather just show it off to my elf friends.

Do you guys think it would be possible to use caged magma men or similar instead of magma? I could link the cages to the same levers as the support.

That's an awesome idea!
It could say in the description. For example
"Beware his poisonous sting. He is on a mad rampage!"
Or
"Beware his deadly spittle. He has some demands."

I bet three barrels of Whip wine and a +plump helmet roast+ his fortress will be destroyed by a forgotten beast before the first year! HAHA!

Okay for serious now, you did not chose the best time to join. The newest version adds a lot of stuff but is really glitchy like millitary and health care. You could just take it as it is or jump back to an older version. The main thing the older versions don't have is the underground system. Military and healtcare are still present but in a much more simple, and functional form.

Do your dwarfs have training weapons? Training weapons are glitched, your dwarfs never drop them and will usually use them over normal weapons, the fact that they do almost no damage makes this really bad.

So we all miss the ability to get dwarfs into the military using the v menu but it would not work with the new squads system. My suggestion is to have a draft. The way it would work is pretty simple, dwarves could be marked for a draft in the V menu. After being marked for the draft the dwarf would appear highlighted and at the top of the list of the military screen. Marking dwarfs for the draft would not be necessary, that is they could be recruited without being marked, the draft would just serve as a convenience and would save a lot of time looking through pages of dwarf names.

Well I got into a wrestling match with a dragon and it just bit my head off. Getting your head bit of needs to be nerfed.
