General Discussion / Re: The 50th state... North Dakota?
« on: July 17, 2011, 04:30:07 pm »
Yes, all seven people in north dakota vote to change the constitution.

More along the lines of all seven bay 12ers from ND go "Meh. Don't really care that much."

Yes, all seven people in north dakota vote to change the constitution.

I refuse.  We've actually got a budget surplus, no need to get mixed in with you other states.

Which is probably related to the fact that you get 2 dollars back from the federal government for every dollar you pay in federal taxes.  Way to go rugged individualism.  Meanwhile us elitists on the east and west coasts are subsidizing you bastards in the middle and dont even have a controlling share of the vote in the government we pay for.

Money in farm subsidies is a far cry from general use funds, and that old claim isn't really accurate. Seriously, don't hate on ND. We've got more nukes and wheat than anyone else in the Union.

While I'm not going to claim that TN has more wheat than you guys, I'd like to point out a nice little place called Oak Ridge, which has been declared the National Nuclear Repository (according to the Oak Ridge people I talked to when I visited ORNL). All of the nuclear stuff we're buying from Russia goes there to be dismantled and stored. Yeah, I suppose it's not missile nukes, but the nuclear material is all there.

I used to be really excited at the prospect of you guys getting a 51st state, for some reason. This'd disappoint me.
Puerto Rico is apparently going to be deciding its official status (territory, independent, free associate, or state) by the end of 2012. From what I've heard, things are looking slanted towards statehood at the moment, so you may get to see us get a 51st state. Of course, that means changing the flag. Again.

There also is, I kid you not, a very minor political party in New Zealand who's sole goal is to have the country annexed by the US. Seriously. They even have a half-broken website.

They'd never go for statehood. They get a ton of federal benefits and don't have to pay all the taxes the states do. Why would they screw themselves over for a title and tax hikes?

Woo! I just saw that Korewa Zombie Desuka? is getting a second season! Awesome!
Too bad The Demon Lord In The Back Row had a plot that's so finalized. =/

Emotional Trauma Cocktail Challenge

Grave of the Fireflies.

-poutyface- That was one of my first anime I watched, and can consiously remember, too. I was like 6 or something at the time.

Anyways, what's the most messed up/depressing/traumatic/soul-destroying manga you've read? I feel like soul destruction, but my only laptop isn't good enough for anime and I will not have internet for a few days.

SAIKANO.

Second place goes to the Evangelion manga. Gunslinger Girl gets pretty bad at times too (I haven't had the connection to keep up to date with it).

Hey does anyone other them me uttarly HATE the "He wasn't trying" retrospect done in anime?

It annoys me to no end... it is basically used for a "Yes we know he was defeated before but he wasn't trying so you still have to take him seriously"

In fact in one anime they actually managed to use it TWICE in a span of two episodes (Dang it Yakkate Japan!!!)

Here is a game!

The worst "Actually that time I wasn't trying" Moment you can think of in an anime.

The rule of thumb is they MUST have been defeated at the time. This isn't a "I wasn't trying" and then they kick their butt in the very same battle. This is the person was defeated but "he wasn't trying" and thus still needs to be taken seriously when the battle happens again.

Jeez, this seems to happen so often in DBZ and Bleach (though it's all in the same battle so it doesn't really apply). It's all like "I wasn't trying, fool." "NO, FOOL, IT IS I WHO WAS NOT TRYING!" "I OBJECT! I AM THE ONE WHO WAS NEVER TRYING, EVER!" etc. until the battle ends and you feel like you've wasted your time.

I can't actually think of a specific situation where the battle ended, someone was defeated, and then the defeated person said they were not trying...

I've never seen any anime, Vector suggested I might do so, what shall I watch?  :P

He's lying--he's seen GitS, hehe.

I, of course, recommend the Saikano manga :3

NO! NOT SAIKANO! JUST SLIT YOUR WRISTS NOW AND SAVE YOURSELF THE BUILD-UP!

I'm kidding. Sort of. <.<
Saikano should definitely be a part of some sort of Emotional Trauma Cocktail Challenge for watching anime. Sort of like a drinking game, but it destroys your soul instead of your kidneys.

I can only really think of having someone watch Strait Jacket, go right into the Evangelion anime series, straight into the End of Evangelion movie, then straight into reading Saikano.

Then there's be sort of a rehab thing, where you ease back into emotional health by watching Gurren Lagann and going to something even more ridiculous like Korewa Zombie Desuka!? or The Demon Lord In The Back Row (Or even P&SwG)

This idea definitely needs work though. Not enough substance. Maybe Death Note -> Strait Jacket -> rest?

Well, I'm on chapter 57 of the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga now.
Spoiler: *spooooooooilers* (click to show/hide)

The manga has a nice alternative story. One of the things I like about it is how unique of an alternative it is. Almost everything is different, but at the same time, the same. It veers off course just well enough to tell another compelling story without going in a completely different direction.

It seems like Rebuild is going in a completely different direction though.

That's supposed to be worse?

Possibly as soon as someone realizes the ears and possible tail aren't costume accessories. :p

The anatomy of a Animal-Eared human being is astounding.

Though I guess not as astounding as some Anthropomophic animals that maintain perfectly unhindered human speach patterns despite not having a mouth that supports the same vocalisation.

A cat-wizard did it.

You're never the same as you were after a lot of things.

That reminds me. Keep watching Code Geass. >=D

Damn straight.

I'm like some fucking mutilated freak with toaster-testicles and light bulbs for eyes, and motor oil for tears.

I blame Japan.

It could be worse. You could be a loli catgirl who rides a magical banana.

Nah, it's all the squick that got me.

From the way that discussion was going, you make it sound like it was the squick that drew you in. It was, wasn't it?

Someone just rec'd it one day and I was like 'sure'

And then I was never the same again

You're never the same as you were after a lot of things.

From the way that discussion was going, you make it sound like it was the squick that drew you in. It was, wasn't it?

I crunched some numbers earlier  Apparently each When They Cry game averages to about 151,000 words and since I've played all 16 (well half of the 16th one) that would come to a total of 2,416,000 words.

That's over double the total length of the Harry Potter series.  Now I feel a little impressed by my reading.

That is pretty impressive. I easily beat that with a few fanfiction authors though. Charles Bhepin is a god amongst men, and I'm sure I can find a few more to round out the number. Bhepin's got around a mil just by himself.

When I finish R1 of Code Geass, I'll take a break to watch something else again, maybe some Lucky Star.

HERESY. AFTER YOU FINISH R1 YOU WILL FEEL COMPELLED TO WATCH AND FINISH R2. THERE IS NO NEGOTIATION HERE. IT WILL HAPPEN.

And yes, you will feel much, much worse for Shirley.

D:

I just hope she gets some sort of reward for all the shit the Geassverse has thrown at her so far.

She'll pull through, right?

Right?

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

R1 Episode 19.

Fanservice that doesn't drown me in panty shots and matrix boobs!

Still annoyed by it, but thank God it isn't like HSoTD.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We all miss Jeremiah. =(
Vilette is only ~67% bitch. She becomes less of a minor character later.

Watched a lot of Neon Genesis Evangelion today.  Watched episode 11-18 so far.  This is really really good, like great.  I might even finish the tv series today if this keeps up.  Episodes 21-24 I have are director's cut versions, they're a bit longer for some reason but that's alright, the more the better.
Wait! You must be warned, a lot of people have issu-

Watched episodes 20-26 of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which means I'm done with the tv series.  I've heard that the last two episodes have no budget but actually watching it is a totally surreal experience.  I'll watch the stuff you pretty much have to watch tomorrow.  It's too late now and I don't have time.  Although I already know I'm going to have a hard time sleeping after watching the 2nd half of NGE in one day, man this is gonna be a depressing sleep.

I guess I'll give my review now.

Although the show was really good and I enjoyed it vastly...

Well, that is a better reaction than most people, but you really should have waited for the warnings. Now, the next thing you need to watch out for is EoE...

Just be sure to watch both Rebuild movies after.

The ending of the first series broke my heart/brain/soul.
I'm guessing the movies resolve this issue so I can't wait to watch them and feel better about myself.

Good luck with that.

That's exactly why. Now you should really just sit down and take it slo-

So I watched the first part in End of Evangelion.  It was exactly what a wanted, a continuation after episode 24 that actually makes sense.  They even call it Episode 25: Air at the beginning.  Time for the second part now, that was great.

Yeah, but the second part is what you need to watch out for. Remember, slow-

Finished End of Evangelion.  Hahaha aaaaahhhh that was enjoyable.  Going to watch the two Rebuild of Evangelion movies now.

DAMNIT. What is wrong with you!? You're supposed to let it sink in! The Rebuild movies really change things up, but if you pay close attention, they should be really enjoyable.

Watched Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.  Was really great and awesome.  Unlike Rebuild 1.0 this one diverges from the tv series plot much much more.  I'm sad now because I finished watching all the Neon Genesis Evangelion currently but I always have the many adaptions and other series to do now as well.  While I do other things Rebuild 3.0 will be made kehekehekehe.

Man why can't I feel like this all the time, endless possibilities.  Like my behavior has done a complete 180 in the last 2 years.  Instead of always dwelling in the same and boring I keep on doing new and interesting things.  It's so much fun.

Glad you liked it. Welcome to the wonderful world of Evangelion. NOW PROVE YOUR WORTH AS AN EVA FAN AND DOWNLOAD ALL OF THE EVA SKINS FOR YOUR BROWSER! DO IT!

Hey, ToonyMan, want a hug? Maybe some Tang?
:P
No I'm fine.  I've been expecting this for awhile.

Aww, customary hug and tang jokes and I wasn't able to give them... oh well. Lillith still gives the best hugs.

A Soul Eater AMV that uses Marlyn Manson's version of "This is Halloween."  Exceedingly creepy.  Doubt I'll ever watch the anime, but I sure can't stop watching this vid *cowers in terror*
I've watched that at least a dozen times.
Sooo coool.

One of the best AMVs in my opinion. I've only got about four or five others that I consider in the same league. Should we start an AMV thread?

Code Geass.

Rakshata who is a blonde chick with green eyes is somehow, against all logic, Indian.

WTF.

Anyways, it's pretty awesome. Can't wait to see if they survived

Rakshata is supposed to be exotic. Mission accomplished.
