General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?
« on: October 14, 2013, 05:48:22 am »
If we're posting AMVs I wanna share this; I dunno if it's been posted before, but watching it again doesn't hurt, you know?

Life is Beautiful AMV

Already had that one in my Great folder, but thanks for sharing anyway. =)
By the way, that AMV is also known as "Live".

Here's a good one.

THANK YOU. I saw this once, ever, at a viewing for my anime class while we were all screwing around before the professor showed up with the movie. I've been looking for it since. This is getting downloaded so hard. I also really need to re-evaluate what folders my AMVs are all in as well. This is almost definitely going into the Awesome folder. Excellent editing, visuals fit the lyrics and vise-versa (helps if you're familiar with the series/movies), high quality stuff.

Are we talking about AMVs?
Cause here's one I think is pretty good.

This one's pretty darn funny and also pretty true.

This is Halloween
Spoiler: Details (click to show/hide)
This one really did bear mentioning again, it's great.

Couldn't dig the artyness or the song on the second, and wasn't really into the retelling thing either, though.

...

I've also got a few recommendations. By which I mean I've got so many I should probably just leave three.

Yeah, it's pretty darn amazing. I'm not sure you could make a more thematically-appropriate AMV.
Sorry that you didn't like the others, hopefully you'll find some from the next batch that you like.
Also, feel free to recommend AMVs. People seemed pretty cool with it so far, and I'm definitely looking for more AMVs to nab.

Anime Munters - Not a true AMV, but it does feature original animations including, amongst other things, anime characters. Potentially somewhat NSFW, depending. Extremely well done in any case. Am I forgetting to mention anything about it? Probably not, you should go watch.

Sisters of the Light - Watch as clever editing and an interesting song turn a fanservicey harem thing into something you might actually want to watch! The pacing is very nice, and the AMV fits the song very well. A fair amount of swimsuit/underwear level fanservice, though it's not usually the focus.

The Monster - Well done in general. The song has both quick and slow parts, and the AMV manages both of them very well, I think. Should be completely SFW.

20 seconds into Anime Munters and I couldn't stop laughing. That was just... amazing. I'm going to go share that with everyone I know.

Sisters of the Light... woah! So that's where that's from! I'll be sharing an AMV with some shots from the same anime. This is a well-made amv.

The Monster was very impressive. The editing and original content was really something. My only criticism is that it's so darn hard to tell what's going on without having seen the animes/movies.

Cherry: Cronicles of PHOTOpanic

This got me cracking up pretty good.

[MEP] Random Road Trip

Burn it to the Ground

Wow, Random Road is really well-synched and shows some pretty cool stuff. Really digged the music, too.

I wanted to like Burn it to the Ground, especially because the editing was pretty nice, but I just couldn't get into it as much.

Guh. That's a wall of text. Sorry about that guys. AMV sharing time. I'm shooting for mostly Multi-Anime stuff this time.

You get it after graduating university or after your junior year, IIRC. I know for a fact that you get it from university.

(I feel so Canadian calling it "university" with no articles you don't even know)

I actually approve of calling it "university" and have as often as I could. "College" is too vague in the US. It could mean a trade school, a little tech school, a community college or an actual university. Saying that you went to "college" tells you basically nothing in the US and you only get looked down on by people outside of the US who maintain that distinction.

They might be talking about Sims 3 instead of Sims 2.

I go with the last, namely that the meta right now is the ranged AD, which hasn't changed a bit since Preseason 1.

Actually, I'm not sure about that. I've been hearing a lot lately that AP carry is the big deal. They got most of the attention from the fans in Worlds, they got most of the interviews, they got talked about the most and it seemed that their picks were more important. One of my friends that follows the game really closely also said that the game is shifting in focus to be around the AP carry rather than the ranged AD.

That could just be how Riot was handling things or that AP carries are Feature of the Month or something, but I don't think it is.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/10/tennessee-valley-authority_n_3055345.html

Okay, first off, is that article from April 10th or from October 4th?

Second off, woah, woah, no, bad idea. Tennessee and the surrounding states have a lot of poverty going on, but one of the things that helps everyone survive is electricity being pretty darn cheap. Employment with benefits with TVA is also a really big deal for people. If you privatize the TVA, that all goes to hell, electricity costs whatever the owners want it to, employment benefits disappear, likely tons of legal loopholes after its sale due to it being a federal entity for the longest time and probably being exempt all over the place, etc.

It would ruin Tennessee. We'd lose the current re-industrialization we've got going on due to the low cost of electricity and other incentives (we don't have a lot else going for us, really). I don't know how far away the energy distribution for the TVA goes, but it would likely ruin them, too.

And on the other hand, if it weren't for Hitlers rabid and crippling hate of communists, they might have very well allied, Nazis and Commies. Even WITH Hitler's stupidity, they did manage to split Poland between the two of them.

(I might be wrong~)

You're wrong, at least for it being mostly Hitler's fault. Stalin didn't like anybody. He was damn near criminally insane, if not just plain criminally insane. Even if Germany were communist, I'm not sure Russia would have much to do with them unless a war broke out or they would agree to become a part of Stalin's Soviet Union, because he didn't like any other version of communism than the one he was tweaking. The only reason the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact happened was because Russia did not want to fight Germany (They couldn't even beat Finland, for goodness sake! ), and Germany wanted to deal with France and Britain first.

The only reason why Russia had anything to do with the West is because Germany was picking on everyone, and even though we sent tons of supplies to Russia, Stalin still wasn't happy. Granted, we were not happy with him either, but we weren't being little bitches about it.

I already have Civ V. Is Mafia II any good? I've heard some rather mixed reviews.

It's like a more mechanically-complicated, more story-driven version of GTA with less things to do. Less arcade-y, I suppose. For me, it was pretty entertaining but I could definitely see how other people wouldn't enjoy it very much.

Most wallpapers you find listed at 2560x1600 are really lower res images that somebody took 5 seconds to scale up, seemingly unaware that the result looks horrible.

Oh, no, they know. They also know that there's a "stretch" option for background images and it's basically the same useless thing.
Grr.

In case other people have this problem and/or the OP is not fake (as choppy suggested), I'll say this:

I often feel the same way. It's not about being spoiled by good games and finding other ones inferior. It's about losing interest after a while.

My whole problem with games is that they have to be interesting enough to keep my interest for the amount of time I'm playing. If I'm playing an RPG, that RPG has to keep my interest for its full duration on top of being more interesting than any other game I might feel like playing instead. That's not me having high standards, that's me having a problem with wanting to continue playing games. Usually what happens is that I'll dump something like 10-30 hours into a game depending on its genre and if it's actually worth playing. After that, I lose my enthusiasm, even if I think the game is amazing and that I'd recommend it to everyone. I keep the game installed because I know it's a great game and I really should finish that, but my heart's just not in it. Eventually, maybe after a month, I give it another shot to finish or I decide that I'll likely never play it again and uninstall it, hoping that one day in the future I'll look back and go "Yeah! I want to finish that!"

Right now I'm in a lull playing Xenoblade Chronicles, and it is the best-designed RPG I've ever played. It has so much for all sorts of different players. It has depth in places most people wouldn't even look or care. The mechanics are solid. The story is great. It's keeping me in suspense.
Despite that, I recently reinstalled Darksiders II and I'm playing that instead. My enthusiasm just isn't there despite it being such an amazing game. However, unlike Darksiders II, I probably won't take a year (or more) break from it because it's that good. I just don't know when I'll feel like playing it again, especially since my interest in Darksiders II will probably wane soon and I'm pre-empting that by starting up the redownload/reinstall of Assassin's Creed Revelations that I also didn't finish (also in preparation for playing ACIII which I recently got on sale). I'm also eying up SPAZ since I'm on the home stretch to finish that game, but I doubt I'll play it again any day soon.

It's a cycle, and when you're interested in as many different genres as I am and live where there are so few things to do like I do, the cycle is to switch out different games until you beat one, mark it off your list, and go with another game.

(or, as I usually think: "Why aren't I spending this time hoeing a vegetable garden and going on dates IRL?"  This is not an issue I typically have with grand strategy games, fortunately)

"Damn... why didn't I wake up and try annexing my neighbor today, instead of playing this game... ugh..."

... Okay? Then don't complain about a champion if you're not willing to learn where and for what reasons they are useful or not useful.

Xaritscin, you're pretty much just wrong. Not trying to be a dick, but you're trying to say, definitively, that Kassadin is underpowered and should be rebalanced/reworked/etc. Basically everyone else, either from playing him, playing against him or watching games with him being played are saying that this is not the case. Please accept the possibility that you might be wrong about him being underpowered.

Kassadin's RQE combo will not result in a kill on someone at full health unless Kassadin is completely fed, higher level, or they build absolutely no defense and are naturally squishy. Kassadin is not a full-health burster. He whittles you down, bit by bit, then he pounces. That, or he shows up towards the end of a team fight to clean up. He has considerable burst, but it's all about the time leading up to the burst that matters, not the burst itself. Positioning is absolutely important considering he does not build to supplement his melee attacks (although those can be useful with his w, they are just dangerous), so he usually only goes in when he can guarantee that he'll also get back out.

If you have played other assassins, you should know that very few can burst someone down from full unless one of those situations are met. Assassins are terrifying because they stop you from doing pretty much anything, constantly chasing you down and doing absurd damage as long as they stick on you. Only assassin champions like LeBlanc (who was rebalanced so it's less of a case now) put you in danger of immediate death when you see her, and that's still only if you haven't built defense or are naturally squishy.

That said, if you're an assassin and you're jumping, alone, onto anyone that can survive your burst and stun you after you silence them... you're doing it wrong. You listed 2 tanky dps champions who are naturally resilient against assassins (so you're saying, "Kassadin can't burst down his counterpicks!") and Master Yi who is an AD assassin, meaning that all he requires to kill you is to get close, which is necessary for Kassadin. So again, you're right. Kassadin going against them is a bad idea. That's because he is not good against them, not because he doesn't have the power required to be an assassin.

You also won't see those types of champions mid unless you're horribly unlucky (or lucky, considering it should allow your other lanes/jungle some advantages).

Possibly got reported for something silly

You can't report based on after-game chat, unless they buffed the Tribunal. Even if its copy-pasted, the Tribunal is reviewed by players, and there's no way that Kat will be able to communicate that after-game chat to all of them (or even know which ones are reviewing the case). If you didn't do anything bad in-game, just don't worry about that report. You also don't get sent to the Tribunal on one offense (to my knowledge), so its no big deal. If Kat reported you for that then she was being dumb.

Ok, so the Steamboxes they're unveiling now are literally just computers with the SteamOS preinstalled.

That's... that's what the Steamboxes are. They are pre-built PCs. With PC stuff in them. Also, SteamOS.
Why did you think they were anything but that?

It might also be that people are actually looking up details on the ACA. Before, I just noticed people either liking or disliking the ACA based on their political affiliation. Are you a Democrat? The ACA is good, people who say its bad are wrong. Are you a Republican? The ACA is bad, people who say its good are wrong.
Now that its the center of a gigantic shitstorm rather than this nebulous object of political affiliation, I'm seeing more and more people actually try to look more deeply into the subject.
