Also: pay 125 bucks and get a bunch more games (lol?)

The newsletter basically said "For those not so humble, you can contribute $125 and get the entire Paradox library (excluding EU IV and DLC)!"

So yeah, "a bunch more games" is "all of their games except for their latest one".

Dungeon Siege 1 was quite cool. You had the freedom to do whatever you wanted, and IIRC you had the freedom to have your party do whatever you wanted. There were no classes, just melee, ranged, combat magic or natural magic. It had a somewhat interesting world, but the big thing was the freedom and no loading screens.

Dungeon Siege 2, IMO, just didn't really... work. It felt much less intimate and much more arcade-y. The camera was zoomed out more, the graphics were arguably worse (seriously, I wasn't sure I was actually playing a sequel), but the gameplay was probably a bit more refined.

Dungeon Siege 3's issue is that it's a Dungeon Siege game. They traded class freedom for a more personal story. There's pretty darn good graphics, decent voice editors, your actions have repercussions (though perhaps not that much) and its just neat in general. It's just not Dungeon Siege, which was all about class freedom.

I don't remember there being any other DRM than Impulse/Steam for DS3.

I like that idea. If anyone wants to volunteer, we can split up the work in chunks and fill out a Google spreadsheet. Rating them would probably be difficult, but we can have something like "Pros" "Cons" and "General Consensus", since I think we should be able to figure out from what's been written what the attitude about a certain series is but not really a star rating.

Nah, it's fine. I was still talking about Negima concerning

Quote
The whole point of Negima was that it was a shonen adventure/fighting series disguised as a harem comedy.

Really? I thought it was Eichi disguised as a harem. Hence all the implies sex and making out.

and

What implied sex? That was like the one thing he didn't put in.

Sort of.

Lets just say it sort of enters the same arena as the Dorothy battle in Marchen Awakens romance. It isn't Tentacle rape, but you are meant to treat it like such.

Thought the "tentacle rape" comment was from one of the Negima OVAs, in which a clothes-eating tentacle monster attacks the cosplayer and humiliates and tickles her until she is saved.

... this is the first quote on Bay12 I really wanted to sig, but it's too long. Why world, why!?

okay new question from anime noob what about an anime about terroist and the heroes who try to stop them. {dear god i hope the NSA dosen't go after me for asking that}.

Yeah, you're pretty much looking for GitS right there. Spiral (or Uzumaki) may work as well. Actually, ACTUALLY WAIT. GUNSLINGER GIRL. You want Gunslinger Girl. Terrorism, Western politics, nitty-gritty, the whole shebang. Not sure about anime vs. manga, though. I know the manga version is great.

You may also be interested in Black Lagoon. It doesn't really deal with terrorism at all, but it deals with a lot of other topics you might be interested in that deal with a similar thing.

I will say he failed though. Mind you Marchen Awakens Romance went from "creative and possible going somewhere" to "Derivative and a slog" less then halfway through the series.

I can even say the EXACT moment this happened. It would be immediately after the Snow battle in the tournament. That was when the anime became irredeemable because it had no self-awareness.

I... I don't know what to say to that because I wasn't talking about Marchen Awakens Romance, and I'm not sure I know about a "Snow battle in the tournament" in Negima. The only time I recall snow is during one of Eva's training sessions for Asuna.

Theatre of War is made by 1C, the people behind the Men of War and IL-2 Sturmovik franchises (among many more).

Essentially, if you aren't a hardcore fan of realism, it's not worth your money, even at that low of a price. If you're a fan of realism, then you might be interested, but look into it.

He speaks of one of the OVAs, which is just more "lololololol look how many different ways I can screw with this universe I made and people will still enjoy it" by Akamatsu. Also, wasn't implied. I saw that OVA scene, and even though it was outrageous, it was also no rape. Obviously it was meant to make the audience think of it like tentacle rape, but there was no rape in actuality or ever implied by the scene. That scene was "Hey, here's a shoutout to all you perverts into this thing, and I can get away with it because I can."

Struggling to think of any game sequel that was built by a different company than the original, that didn't turn out to be a pile of horse shit. Examples are welcome, because I would so love to discover some reasons to look forward to this!
Dota 2

Wat? DotA 2 was handled by IceFrog under Valve. IceFrog made DotA: Allstars. Before then, yeah, DotA changed hands a bunch, but going from DotA: Allstars (the absolutely most popular version that got everyone's attention) to DotA 2 was not handled by anyone different.

As for sequels made by different companies...

Wasn't NWN and NWN 2 handled by different people, and isn't there a divide in which is considered the better?

There's also Matrix's acquisition of the rights to the Close Combat series, which it re-released and then produced full releases of.

Tropico 4 is considered a pretty good game, although Tropico 3 was a bit jarring, Tropico 2 was made by the original team and not considered that good and Tropico 1 was a classic. That said, Kalypso doesn't have a perfect track record (Looking at you, Patrician IV and Port Royale 3...).

On the topic of Tropico, PopTop Games, the developer for Tropico, first came out with Railroad Tycoon 2, which is also considered to be a classic, though they were not responsible for Railroad Tycoon 1.

Hmmmmm...

Hi-Rez and Tribes: Ascend from the Tribes franchise...

I got nothing after that.

Shounen's not dead. There's the Big Three with the Little Fourth (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and Fairy Tail). Then there's the shounens that aren't nearly as widespread in popularity but are still considered great, like FMA.

Then there's the one that none of you are forgetting, one that clearly ushers forth a new glory age for shounen! It stands a top the mountain of pitiful corpses, and the mangaka sits on his throne, cackling with glee, whipping fans and editors alike, for all the power is his! That manga is Mahou Sensei Negima! That mangaka is Ken Akamatsu!

Because we all know the thing shounens have been missing the whole time were harem romance subplots involving 50+ girls! LONG LIVE TROLLMATSU!

But for-realziez, I feel like there's plenty of shounens that are doing just fine and so the genre is doing just fine. It's just about what they are doing with themselves being the issue (See: Naruto has so much backwards, nonsensical, ridiculous character development and anti-development, and lawlerskates!Bleach should have ended in its infancy).

I do want to check out Bakuman now, though. I'm concerned for the state of the art, and after reading through Hideaki Anno's stuff I'd like to see something (or someone) try to take a step in a positive (for the industry) step again.

Ok question... what's the difference between top and bot lane anyway?
I mean... they're both simetrical and the only thing that makes them different is Nashor/Dragon... at least to my eyes.

Click on that. Unless you mean physically, then nothing. There's no difference other than Dragon/Baron Nashor and very minor cosmetics.

Can anyone show me an anime about full-fledged war going on {medieval setting preferably and ill accept a bit of magic}. You know with 2 sides trowing each other around to get an advantage and the protagonist fights on one side against the antagonist?

Code Geass, but you've already seen that. Maoyuu, kind of, but you've seen that. Attack on Titan, also kind of. It's a war, but not humans v. humans. Valkyria Chronicles, but that's supposed to be total suck. Fate/Zero, which is kind of full-fledged war on a really small scale. I can't think of any others.

I notice only the support characters are taking wards. Is that still relevant or is what I've heard about everyone taking sight wards all the time forever true?

It's generally agreed upon that "Vision wins games." If you have the map revealed, you can see the enemy's movements, and if they don't place wards or if you remove their wards, they can't see what you do. That's free ganks, free escapes, free buff steals or free towers. The issue is that wards can be costly and take up an important inventory space. Supports are balanced such that they don't need as many items to be effective, and most of the items they buy are auras or other support-esque items. They also build gold-per-ten items and usually take the gold-per-ten runes to compensate for not getting much cs. That's why supports are mainly responsible for warding for their team. However, top lane and the jungler should also be buying wards, as the jungler can use it to help protect a lane or give better vision for an opportune gank or for counter jungling, and top lane needs that top brush at the river constantly warded as it can be very easy to get pounced on. Mid lane will also sometimes buy wards if they are getting harassed by the jungler or if they are winning the lane and fear a jungle gank that might even the odds.

And something I've basically been wondering, compared to what I heard from earlier which is "kill jungle mobs if you happen to be nearby them in the jungle". Is this void if there are junglers? From what I understand they hit pretty much all the jungle mobs possible pretty hard so I'd imagine taking potential gold/exp away from them is a bad idea, yeah? Just a random thought I wanted confirmation on.

The thing to take into consideration is that jungle camps have a respawn timer and your jungler isn't always going to be in the jungle. If you can kill the jungle mobs and have them respawn before your jungler would get there to kill them, then you're just maximizing the potential of the jungle. You'll sometime see blue's bot lane kill bottom golems while their top and mid help the jungler out at blue buff.

Still, the only person on your team that can really say when the jungler will get to those camps is the jungler, so you should always ask if it's okay to take one of the camps and not be upset if they say no.

I'm also starting to become severely against the 'annex vassal' mechanic. You can sell a 'vassal' [someone you create out of thin air directly after signing peace with..] provinces, buy a Diplomatic Reputation+5 adviser, and annex the whole thing, with free cores, in less than five years. That doesn't seem right. There's no *Force stop annexation* casus belli, so AI will not attempt to stop you from blobbing in this way, unless I've missed it because no one will lift a finger to stop such things.

Unfortunately, that's the only real way to WC right now unless you just don't care about overextension. Due to how long it takes to core things, getting a core on the last province in the game (there are 1419 provinces) would take almost 216 years by itself. Just coring the 500th province would take 78 years. Therefore, creating vassals, selling them a bunch of land, making super blobs out of them, and then annexing them for free cores is about the only way you can do it. I don't agree with that approach either, it's just how things are done currently. Definitely needs to be fixed, I can't imagine how Paradox expected anyone to conquer the world without what is, IMO, a serious exploit. That is, unless they just expected people to do it with gobs and gobs of overextension, or if there are new qualifiers for "world = conquered".

Also, the reason why the AI doesn't lift a finger to stop you is because you need 190 relations to annex a vassal. Unless those relations plummet into the dirt, they aren't going to do anything because they like you too much. However, I would like to point out that the wording on diplo-annexing a vassal gives the impression that you can only annex one vassal every ten years...
