Probably mentioned already:

Race condition/task locking bug on beekeeping.

Lock hives with a tsk flag, so that other dwarves won't try to allocate a labor task with the same colony. I am tired of having union staff breaks in my apiary brigade.

Hillarity would ensue in worldgen, as elves get spontaneously attacked by verminators, only to run facefirst into their ethical constraints.

You know.. the ones that prevent attacking animals? (I think self defense is permitted... so remoe that ethic tag for ultimate hilarity)

Properly done, it could create a loyalty cascade in elven civs when verminators arrive.

That argument (fixing aging to create immortality) is basicaly what I said would need to happen for immortality to not be a horrible experience.
I then elaborated as to why that is. That's all. The immortal's neurology would need novel neurogenesis, and aggressive pruning/regeneration.

(Consequently, this means they would be able to survive truamatic brain injuries much better than ordinary mortal people.)

Not only can they pick locks. I noticed undead kobolds can be hidden/invisible as well.

NO-ONE expects the kobold imposition!

(Dun-dun-DUNNN!!)

Brain plasticity is quite remarkable, but imperfect. The fact that advanced alzhiemers patients can even talk at all is a testiment to that fact. (Their brains look like pustulent swiss cheese)

The problem is that adult stemcells do not turn into new nervous tissue, with the exception being in the olfactory bulb.  What grows are axons and dentritic connections.

Plasticity is the migration, pruning, and creation of those connections.

Mylenation is a very biologically expensive process, (gial helper cells spend most of their active lives slowly depositing the mylein sheath around their client axons) so the brain establishes primary axon routes prior to mylenation. Once mylenated, the axon is essentially dedicated hardware, and only the dentrite connections change.

Luc Bakecakes is a girl.  She learned the secrets of life and death shortly before she married and shortly after becoming obsessed with her own mortality, and taught them to several necromancers over the years.  She still lives happily in Loverauthors.  I plan to adventure there when I get the chance.

Ive very much enjoyed the neuroscience so far, especially this most recent argument that the only way you could be immortal and not watch your skills slowly deteriorate is to be high on weed the whole time.

But you know who else is immortal and spends all their time growing weeds... ELVES!  Magma him!!!

So, she is basically the evil version of strawberry shortcake?

Perhaps a "kindly old grandmotherly" type who bakes cookies and cakes while raising the dead? For some reason I have no difficulty at all seeing this....

I agree. It would be wasteful and impractical on all fronts. Sadly, that hasn't stopped politicians with "ideas!" From making equally stupid laws requiring similarly boneheaded things to be done.

I agree about line losses. That's why I said we needed an efficiency boom. Right now, we clearly and deperately need to overhaul and replace our energy distribution system, because it is:

1) wasteful
2) inconsistently implemented
3) vulnerable to serious problems
4) just not up to the task of being scaled up/able to meet future demand

Like all major infrastructure upgrades though, the powers that be see only the billshock from the construction fee and red tape, and don't see the monetary damages that doing nothing would impose.

When the powerlines glow with beautiful nitrogen incandescence from being driven at 3000% rated voltage, and bleed radio and cathode ray emissions all over, maybe they will get around to fixing them, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Oh, I agree. Both cases.

Badass giant war eagles picking up and dropping goblins and ripping them up into tiny bits is ultradwaven.

Iirc, raptors need to be stolen from their nest as chicks in order to be tamed, so that the bird imprints on its owner. Otherwise the bird is untamable.

Due to this requirement, coupled with the protected/endangered status of most large raptors, the practice is tightly controlled in areas that still allow it, and illegal just about everywhere else.

This is true of both falcons and eagles. (But eaglet chicks are harder to procure [momma eagle don't like it], and much harder to successfully raise/feed)

An eagle is just another raptor. Just very large.

They too are tamable. Just harder to keep.

The use of raptors for hunting is ancient. Is this supposed to be mind blowing or something?

This was very common in europe as well, and was even a sport. "Falconry". A person who trained and hunted with falcons was a "falconer."

Now, trained "war falcons" and "hunting falcons" would be boss to have in DF.....

My vampymaid seems to obey her burrow restriction long enough to wall her in permanently.

I intend to perform a "care and feeding" experiment real soon, where I will test a "blood mist diffuser" on her.  She is currently "very thirsty" for "alcohol", so it should be easy to see if the devi works or not.

I am still contemplating how to safely fill a single tile of her quarters with barrel exploding magma. Conveniently, her holding cell is located in very close proximity to the cone of the volcano, but I need to do this the right way to keep from flooding her containment cell.

The idea comes from the observation that vampires caught in bloody rain do not need to feed.
This experiment tries to replicate the effect by misting the blood instead of raining it.

The solution, of course, is to mod in garlic and its associated syndrome.

That way barrels of garlic juice can be systematically dropped into the !!space heater!!, produce a choking cloud that only mildly irritates normal dwarves, but causes horrible melting death to vampires.

This could be placed in an airlock for migrant processing.

Well.. I did ask if it was possible to derail a political topic with politics.....

I guess now we know!

Personally, I wonder how the asian carp were introduced. Is it like the snakeheads in florida, where the local asian ethnic population didn't want to pay import duties on "tasty fish", so they decided it would be ok to dump them in a pond or other waterway without contemplating that eggs are carried on the legs of waterfowl, and that (in the case with snakeheads) that they might just crawl out and migrate on their own?

I really am curious what the reason for release of a known invasive species was.

Here, we have invasive zebra mussels that infest the bilges and livewells of freshwater pleasure and fishing craft, that people just can't be bothered to inspect and properly clean, so like a dirty heroin needle spreading hepatitis, we have boats spreading lake destroying xenotics like crazy.

Carp are a "teeny" bit bigger than fishscale sized zebra mussels though.

A burrow submerged in water.

Normal dwarves just won't go in.
