Mod Releases / Re: My Little Fortress - 2016 (DF 0.43.04) yay!

As a reply about the crash, I forgot that there seems to be an issue with DF in general and zooming the text to the maximum size; it always crashes the game on the 'b'uild screen. Since I'm using a fresh install for the mod, I didn't have the window set up like I normally do. Thanks again.

I have a copy of the zip file. I reuploaded it to DFFD.

http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12753

Thank you. I've been meaning to look at this for ages, but when I finally get around to it, it was gone. Or Dropbox is broken one.

I installed it to the current DF version, and got a fort started, but when going to the 'b'uild screen it crashed. I don't know if that's because of my video recorder acting up, or the fact that the mod apparently wasn't updated to the latest version of DF.

Is there still a working download for this? Clicking the download link gives me this:

Yara the cyclops, fearsome beast from the depths of time, visited Rewardpages. He met a leaving merchant on the western slopes. Not a guard, merchant. He died to said merchant, on the western slopes. Wasted 5 minutes going through the siege preparations, sealing gates and calling up the military to their positions.

Maybe the kid playing the elf arm will enjoy his new playmate at least.

I have a child currently playing with a rotting elf's arm in the corpse pile in the upper keep grounds. Not only that, he feels nothing about death. He didn't care when the elves died. He didn't care when the troll died. He didn't care when the dwarven soldier from the fort died. He doesn't care about what others think of him, nor is he swayed by emotional appeals. He only forms fleeting and rare emotional attachments.

He's obviously a sociopath. He'll make a good doctor.

I think that might cause migrant numbers to dwindle though. I'm not sure, seemed like when I had a drop in numbers after that first one was ganked at Rewardpages, though I turned down the pop cap later to stop getting 40 children in each wave.

Toss them in a pile just behind some fortifications the local necromancer can raise them through, then die horribly to zombie elves.

Wwud with too many cats?

Catburgers

WWUD if a dwarf Olympics was held?

I had a fortress of around 200-250 dwarves, with a well trained military. One day, a forgotten beast decided it didn't like my fortress. The place where this all took place was my stairwell entrance, which had a small pool of magma in the middle of it, for dumping items. This was a while ago, so I don't remember everything that happened exactly. What I do remember, was that I sent 2 full squads of ten at it, and ripped them to pieces. I was just watching in awe at my military getting absoloutly demolished, when a cat came in and gave birth. The monster attacked them, getting one square away from the magma pool as well. One of the kittens swung it's paw at it, and the forgotten beast that had destroyed MY ENTIRE MILITARY, jumped into the magma pool. I was laughing so hard I litteraly couldn't breathe.

You must memorialize that kitten and make shrines to it.

Chain an animal up where you get the rain. I'm not certain caged critters will work, and you don't want the thing dragging a syndrome into your fortress.

Play Phil Collins and Eric Clapton's 'I Wish it Would Rain Down' and then !!SCIENCE!!. If that's not your speed, I occasionally use Alter Bridge's "Waters Rising" as well.

Watch your corpses, you might have them reanimate on their own. Magmachutes/Atom Smashers and a lot of haulers to clear corpses out are essential.

I am cutting down every tree I can see on the map, and now it seems fps has increased a bit, or perhaps it is just my imagination?

Leaves falling and growing fruit (not to mention it rotting/hanging around as cluttering floor stuff for ages) does not help FPS any more than calculating changes like having to grow all the trees and have them grow 1 z level or 2 z levels taller each milestone birthday (most 4x4 trunked trees are 50+ to 100+ years old, high woods particularly in arena mode take a long time). Process all those logs into goods and ash or quantum stockpile the lot i say, phooey with elves, and when you get bored/tired/run out of trees on the surface, cut all the ones down underground too.

Good reason to start in a desert. Though the flames engulfing my caverns were not by design. Probably not helping FPS issues either.

As an addendum to my prior goblin-elf attack post, I found some body parts of one of the elves. On a 5 urists-high wall, behind fortifications. About 20 tiles away from where most of the body was. Maybe 25 from the furthest chunk.

Someone hit a homerun using an elf-ball.

I haven't noticed any significant degrading of protection on any of my dwarves, but to be safe I have been melting and reforging anything at the x<item>x level. It simply wouldn't do to have any of my warriors killed because their armor fell apart in the middle of a battle. No, they must all die to the drawbridge scourge!

I have about 20, and I've only looked at the artifact bone warhammer. I should get to cracking. I need screenshots anyway.

Elves attacked! Well, Goblin-Elves. An entire troop of elves that had been taken by goblin snatchers, backed by 1 troll. They managed to kill one soldier, and another managed to get squished by a drawbridge. That makes 4 highly trained soldiers, with masterwork gear, dying by drawbridge.

At least the walls are finally finished, and now I can work in relative peace on interior projects.

Dear Urist and Urista McMarksdwarf:

Um, Urist is already a feminine name.
Are names even gendered?

Not that I can tell.

I just defined it here specifically because I had a male and female marksdwarf who jumped down from a three urists high wall to go die. The wall wasn't finished yet, and I didn't even know they were up there when they were activated. They must have been actually building it on their off duty day.
