DF General Discussion / Re: Can't Wait Any Longer Donatathon - Over $2000

Norway is pretty rad though, they produce electricity through dams, which they of course export, so they actually got a bank account where they put all the extra cash at the end of the year.

Nah, we get the money from exporting lots and lots of oil, which we use to buy electric cars and hybrids or put in the big bank account. The hydro power is nice too of course but the cash cow is the oil.
Ah alright, my old.. Societal Teacher? Brought up the hydro-dams as the main example :p

It's common knowledge that scandinavian countries are the best countries in the world, tough. I mean, it's not like they aren't in the top 5 of every single (positive) world ranking... (HDI, health care, education, etc.)

Seen from wester europe, they look like snowy paradizes where everyone live in eco-friendly houses made of wood and glass and use their electric car to drive to their workplace (which is always Nokia or Ikea, for maximum cliché worth :p)
Heh :)
Even though we hadn't had a weeks worth of snow a year for the last 7 years or so in Denmark because of the silly weather.. =/

I'd offer up some cash if I thought it'd actually affect how quickly the game came fully into it's next incarnation.  But I don't believe it would, and my more imminent concern is to wonder if Toady isn't just gettin tired.  buckets of money don't help that at all.  Just sayin.

Well it is like the saying "Money doesn't buy happyness"

People also point out "Neither does poverty"

Of which I am brutally aware.  I drool every time I see the montly donation #s.  They're usually twice what I can pull in with this economy. :p

Anyways, I presume you live in America? :p
There really isn't wrong with a sprinkle of socialism...
In Denmark the tax rate lies between 42% for they poorest, to 68% for the elite. The worlds highest.

But then we get free libraries, free health care, the elder won't have to pay to stay in a nursing home or get helpers to come to their houses, school are free for the children, and any education you take as an adult is also free.
Not only is it free, you get paid for taking an education, with the so called "SU" ("Statens Uddannelsestøtte"; "The state's educational support")!
I'm on an IT line, and get what surmounts to $500 since I in the eye of the law still live with my mom (Long story), if I lived by myself I would get about $1000 a month.

And besides an education you can get a job :o
And you don't start paying taxes until there's $5000 in your bank account, an amount a young student probably don't have.

So, yeah.
I don't know why I came with that outburst, I'm tired like hell and should be sleeping, but something rages me the way the american people are hurting themselves and other americans by completely rejecting the idea of any sort of socialism..

..
I'm going to bed, good night everybody :p

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: An Advanced Repeater
« on: November 25, 2009, 07:36:01 pm »
Haven't seen something like this, but it opens up for some possibilites, crushing drawbridges for once at the top of my head...
Hmm, I like it, 3 z-levels can usually be spared, and the 2 different modes for repeating (Fast, connected to both and slow, connected to a single plate) opens up.. yeah, possibilities.

To further refine the design, allow the machinery to be suspended so mechanic can hook up stuff to the plates, I think for the parts needed to make this you'd only want a single of these in a fort :)

But overall very nice :D

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Taming Dragons
« on: November 25, 2009, 06:59:18 pm »
I'm curious about this, too.  I just tamed a dragon that I know killed dwarves in the past, but they weren't my dwarves.  (I happened to have looked at him in Legends.)  He's "tame" but I've got him chained up anyway because I'm not sure.

Edit: One more question: Is there anyway to make a Dragon unbutcherable without making him a pet?  I've almost dragged poor Tul into the slaughterhouse more times than I can count.
I'd be surprised if you captured a dragon that hadn't killed dwarves before :p
No, only your own forts dwarves triggers it :)

Although, if the dragon killed dwarves from your home civ, if your king comes, the dragon will be hostile to him and his retinue. I've heard of dragons randomly getting killed by the King's Bodyguard.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
I once had a king arrive and wrestle a tame dragon to death! So that's why!

RAW

FYI

A baby turkey is called a poult.
Ahh, didn't know that, modified the RAW, thanks a lot ;)
EDIT: No wait, now I'm confused...
The internet doesn't seem to hold the answer if they should be called turkey poult or just poult =/

Heh, inspired by this I mashed up RAW adding turkeys :)
Paste this into a new file ('creature_turkey.txt' for example), insert into /raw and gen a new world :)

The Turkey don't live very long lives, 3 - 4 years actually, and in real life they lay 18 - 24 eggs per hatch.
Now that's a bit excessive in this game, so here they usually only give birth to 1 hatchling a time ;)
The turkey is a big, friendly, creature, almost the size of a dwarf, and yields a lot of fat, but because of this, it can't fly.

Just for the heck of it ;)

Woah.

What armor? What stats?

Alas, she was only around for world gen. I am still trying to engineer a world that would allow me to play an adventurer a year before she dies, but so far I've only gotten it to generate the original state of the world; then a random dwarf dies wrongly and the entirety of history is thrown off.

Though if I had to extrapolate from the armor of leaders that attack fortresses, masterwork steel armor with exceptional decorations, and a masterwork steel warhammer.

And exactly one hundred and fifty-six pages of elf leather jewelry.
Yeah you'll be able to feel her presence when you get near in the form of a 80% decrease in FPS :D

Imagine the spawn of Tholthig and Captain Ironblood....
That particular breed of dwarves might just be what we need to kill the elven menace for good!

One day the temptation shall be too great and I will jump into it to fight those vicious fish!

In that next version the females at least dont have beards...

This is the single most undwarvenly thing I could ever think of!
Hey, hey, don't worry!
/me pushes shoulder into hitto's head to let him cry out
An init option will allow females to grow beards, it's all going to be fine, alright?

Well, for that particular dragon that's pretty easy to say.

Else I'd say stick with the dragon when it enters the map and until it hits a trap.
No way else AFAIK

I thank you for the effort of putting together the script, but that doesn't help me <:(

What version of DF do I need?
Which of your files?
Then what?

EDIT:
Also, change the title to something else, you got 160~ views even though this is a revolutionary step towards playing DF on a remote computer, hell, even a possible co-op multiplayer mode!
Something like.. "Remote Dwarf Fortress.. CHECK!" or "Dwarf Fortress Telnet: The first step"
Hell, I don't know, but this deserves way more attention, you've actually accomplished something note-worthy!
