I have a myth, however. I would like to test all the different ways of getting through an aquifer. I know that you can use magma, although how is beyond me...
You channel like a 5x5 area in the quifier so you'll get a little self-filling pond. Then you drop magma so it goes obsidian, waits until the magma is gone, and then you can mine through the obsidian

2 layers of aquifiers is one of the bigger challengers you can embark upon.
I spent 4 years in a fortress trying different design to get through..
You have to crash a huge amount of layers (15x15, 3+ layers) down, and then build pumps to get through the next, and then build walls next to the quafier walls.
If you get through, anything else will seem like a piece of cake. It's dwarven.
