DF General Discussion / DF + Steam overlay [It works!]
« on: March 11, 2009, 04:23:51 pm »
I just decided to use steam and for the hell of it add df (40d .9) as a "non steam game". Steam community works perfectly with it. The game even seems to pause when you shift + tab. Is there a steam community for df just yet? I wonder if we could convince toady to try and convince valve to release DF as a free game over steam?  In any case a group for people playing df over steam would be epic :D It makes communicating with the rest of the community very easy.

your thoughts?

DF General Discussion / Re: Have you Donated?
« on: March 09, 2009, 07:23:33 am »
I haven't donated yet, but I really want to. Toady deserves it. I live off a handout so I don't have much to spare each month :(

I will surely once the next major release comes out. :D

their like kobolds on steriods. instead of running they actually fight you and have a chance to win against a non trained dwarf.

Alright, new question;

Can resting dwarves tantrum?(IE: throw shit)
I've had these 2 bed-ridden for about 3 months now, and I'm getting worried.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Basically if they have a red injury I suspect they will never wake up at all. You should get rid of them and then make their bones into some some bolts and kill the next set of mandrils. Otherwise they will basically drain resources forever.

I theorize its some smaller, simpler and much more modular game than df. It might even be totally new IP for all we know. In any case toady is making it and has been for a while so surely it will be absolutely epic :D

DF General Discussion / Re: [40d9] Frame Rate Poll

to be honest, with the new version even a Q6600 (2.4Ghz) mildly overclocked to say 2.8 or 3.0Ghz can run a moderate (80 dwarf) fortress at nearly 100FPS (if not more). Though, you need to make sure DF has its own core assigned.

DF General Discussion / Re: what actual cpu is best for df?
« on: February 06, 2009, 05:32:16 am »

ie: wuld a i7 @ 3 ghz be faster in df than a p4 @ 3 ghz?

Having made this comparison in computer science just two days ago I can tell you that after vigorous number crunching any given core on a 2GHz i7 should on average run at the 'equivalent' speed of a 5.3GHz P4 (assuming the program is not threaded and HT is not enabled on the P4 - it would make the calculation ridiculously hard. Another assumption was that most cycles are devoted to arithmetic operations.)

DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress: List of Remaining Items

*does a little spaz thing*

I can't wait to set up a mountain cave (in adventure) and go out hunting for meat... I'v always wanted this in DF :]. ♥☺☻

Won't be able to do that in this release.

Oh snap. He removed it. (I'v only checked in on the old list)...

..Also, Somebody define what he means by "Fireball" please?

Some monsters such as imps, wizards (which you'll never see) and some HFS have an attack that is literally a ball of elf cooking fire.

Also, I love the new list of stuff 'to be implemented'. It feels so much easier to follow than the abstract countdown :D

Find me another game where the dev is prepared to add realistic layering of materials and organs just so we can kill our critters in new and exciting ways?

You need to add far more delay to the app. At present it just keeps pinging b12 every few seconds. The current incarnation would work well as a DOS tool tbh.

DF General Discussion / Re: Describe yourself through DF traits

DarkSim has been ecstatic lately. He received -Cotton Socks- for Christmas. He dined in a legendary dining room recently. Had a truly decadent drink recently. He slept without a proper bed recently. He talked with a friend lately. He shouted at someone in charge recently, and felt better afterwards.

DarkSim likes Obsidian, Gold, Diamonds, old worn out Jeans, Beds, Computers and Panda for their incredible lazyness. When possible he prefers to consume Chinese, Japanese and Vodka. He absolutely detests children.

He Is relaxed. He Is a risk-taker and a thrill-seeker. He Does not go out of its/his/her way to help others. He Is very slow to anger. He Has a calm demeanor. He Does not have a great aesthetic sensitivity. He Loves to take charge and direct activities. He Is often cheerful. He Would rather intimidate others than compromise with them. He Rarely feels discouraged. He Dislikes contracts and regulations. He Is highly adventurous and loves fresh experiences. He Enjoys the company of others. He Is grounded in reality. He Occassionally overindulges. He Loves new and fresh ideas. He Is very willing to compare himself favorably with others. He Loves to defy convention. He Is very disorganized. He Is absolutely unfazed by the opinions of others. He Is occasionally given to procrastination. He Is very straightforward with others. He Makes friends quickly. He Is slow to trust others. He Is confident under pressure. He Thinks it is incredibly important to strive for excellence. He Has a good awareness of its/his/her own emotions. He Is not affected by the suffering of others. He is incredibly confident. He often does the first thing that comes to mind. He needs alcohol to get through the working day.

First fully totally complete one with each personality token given a value :D

DF General Discussion / Interesting param sets
« on: November 28, 2008, 02:40:18 pm »
sooo....

I was wondering if anyone could post a param set for a very high glaciers region for me?

If anyone else has some param sets that yield cool worlds (all burning, all islands, only elves, millions of megabeasts) then please post those here as well!

Thanks!

Oh wow thanks!

So if I add that into the game how would I go by making it? Same way as a crossbow?
