1 floor up, so goblin archers can't negate the fortification bonus by just walking up to it. However, this will drop the range of the dwarf by a few tiles, so ground floor with a channel works too.

Alas, 'any block' is not an allowed input, so you'd have to make a seperate reaction for each type of stone. And I think there's a limit on the number of reactions.

k over it. It'll say the barrel type, and if there's something in it, it'll say that too. E.g. Oak rendered fat barrel or whatever.

Double check that the barrels have something in them. Dwarves like to put an extra barrel onto stockpiles for somer eason.

Given enough hunters, it is possible to empty a map of wildlife. Then you can just arm everyone and give them all copper or bronze armour, while you keep the steel for your military.

I was meaning how, in your second example, he's taking several hits per round while dealing with the wrestler. You seem to be ignoring the counter attacks you get (And I assume dwarves in Fortress Mode get) while fighting, that ignore if you're wrestling or not and use your weapon. So an axedwarf would wrestle the wrestler and use the axe against the weapon using goblins, so he takes less hits than if he couldn't counter attack. It's possible I'm misunderstanding your post, but that's the way it reads to me.

Ignoring Urist McAxedwarf's counter attacks, that's true. But if he's Axe Lord or above, then those are likely to be either deadly or enough to knock out whatever he's hit.

However, if you can outnumber them, then it works in your favor.  8)
Or just train all your military dwarves in wrestling as well. More stats and defence against this.
