Another hat tossed into the ring today. This one covered in sno!
Klobuchar's campaign is on life-support the moment it was born, thanks to a number of reports that she was absolutely hellish on her Senate staffers.

Yes, Mister President, you need to build a wall along the whole US/French border. Definitely that. That's what this situation clearly demands.

Wait...what terror attack? 🤔
person shot up a christmas market
Or as we call it in the United States, "Tuesday".

I will never not mock Leavers. Especially because it turned out pretty much as I expected -- no plan, a complete clusterfuck, and the chief proponents of the whole swindle (Cameron, Farage and BoJo) have largely jumped ship and left it to others to clean up their mess. I'm not interested in "making friends" or "building bridges", because I have no doubt that the True Believers, if given a second referendum right now, would still vote Leave despite knowing what a clusterfuck it would turn out to be.

You may have had well-intentioned, earnestly held beliefs that caused you to vote Leave (distrust/distaste of the EU is one example), just as there were a number of people who voted Trump not because they're alt-Right Nazis, but because they couldn't stomach Hillary Clinton. I get that. I still want to smack those people upside the head EVERY DAMN DAY until they admit they were fucking idiots, but I get that.

Doesn't change the fact that the outcome was foreseeable from a mile away, amidst a chorus of well-reasoned (and otherwise) voices yelling "DON'T DO IT".

It was #YOLO at a national level, which is incredibly irresponsible.

Because Brexit was the political equivalent of drunk-dialing an ex at 3am?

Sure, it seemed like a good idea at the time (ok, it seemed like a good idea to *some* people who I assume were loaded), but now...

This also happened.
I'mma laugh my ass off if the UK England winds up being saved from itself by Scotland.

As with the above, the futures market took a major hit yesterday.
"I'm sorry gentlemen, but we have no future... We cannot afford it."

"But what will we do if there's no future? How will we survive?"

"As we have always done; by living in the past."
Somebody set us up the recession!
All your money are belong to us.
You have no future, make your time.

So...since it hasn't come up yet, the Dow Jones has crashed over 1200 points in the last two days, today's slump triggered in part by the arrest in Canada of Huawei CEO Meng Wanzhou on charges of circumventing Iranian sanctions. The 800-point drop yesterday came after Trump's tweet that "I am a Tariff Man" (the hero we don't need or deserve).

Before it rebounded, earlier today the 2-day loss stood at 1500+ points.

So, Wisconsin votes out Republican incumbents in the governor’s office and the AG, but Republicans retain control of the state senate and assembly, despite Democrats winning a majority of votes in the state (“representative” democracy: the representatives pass laws so they can win seats with less votes)

Republican-controlled state legislature proceeds to pass legislation looking at curtailing the powers of these state offices in an effort to “keep the balance of power”, though senate majority leader Scott Fitzgerald accidentally confirms it’s because governor elect Tony Evers is a (fucking!) liberal.

Tong Evers is looking at litigating the matter.

Link to the past faff.

Republicans be sore losers, y’all.
We were doing that in North Carolina before it was cool.

Similar thing happening in Michigan as well.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Defeat is not enough. The Republican Party must be annihilated and consigned to the dustbin of history along with the Whigs, the Prohibition Party, etc.

Fun fact: The HK416, the weapon we were given in the Norwegian military, has a teensy problem if used for an extended period without thorough cleaning.

Namely, the fire rate starts increasing as the gas port gets clogged up. Eventually it hits the point where the gun becomes full-auto whether you want it or not, and will burn off every single round in a magazine without stopping. Pull trigger once, receive 30-round burst.

And because the weapon is designed as well as it is, you actually can't even access half the gun in order to clean it without the advanced maintenance tools that only the armory gets to use.

But hey, it's light and accurate... who cares if it had a tendency for the bolt to freeze solid in cold weather?
Sounds Orky.

It's almost as if proudly standing for your total lack of convicted principles and material ideology doesn't motivate people.

Clinton was the human incarnation of that "Why are you booing me, I'm right" meme.
Speaking of Democrats having a penchant for trying bad ideas repeatedly, John Kerry is floating the idea of a 2020 run:'(

King Salman has Alzheimer's and is largely a figurehead at this point. The rest of the world may shun MBS but he can rest assured that his good friend Donald Trump will still kiss his ass because Trump loves that Riyadh dosh.

On the bright side, even if MBS remains in power his ambition to create a strong well-educated Saudi middle class is likely going to create the institutions which will replace him
Yeah, Xi Jinping sure looks endangered by a growing Chinese educated middle class.  ::)
Nah, the Saudis will be fine with MBS in power as long as they get their movie theaters and Lexus SUVs.

IMHO, societies with a long history of autocracy don't automatically want to ditch autocracy just because they develop a bourgeois middle class. If anything, Western Europe was the aberration there. If the autocracy can provide them with all the creature comforts of a democracy, without any of the democratic mess, the vast majority of educated middle class people are going to be just fine with it.

Don't worry, we can make his successor Pelosi's. Sound good? Good.
His successor (the person who beat him in a primary) was Ocasio-Cortez. Sure, once they have a couple of years of experience under their belt.

Couple of years? A decade might be better.
A decade gives Washington time to metastasize in any candidate. I'd say two terms, three tops.

@LW: Nothing saying he has to watch it, if he agrees that the fact that it's that appalling means the Saudis need to go fuck themselves with a really long stick. I just have a problem with someone saying "it's not bad enough to change our policies" but it's bad enough that they won't watch/listen to it.
