Florida Man tries to bomb liberal cucks, forgets to include detonators. Also puts "Get 'R Done" on bombs.

Seems legit.

Arrest was made in South Florida apparently. The USPS facility in Opa-locka had been a locus of FBI activity yesterday, and the package for Cory Booker was actually intercepted at the facility.

Gonna be interesting to see if this is someone literally "going postal".

It seems the bomber doubled down on Joe Biden with a second mail bomb addressed to him, bringing our total to 10.
He knew Uncle Joe would brush off just one bomb and go back to flexing his guns for his ladies. (Goddamnit, I miss The Onion version of Joe Biden).

EDIT: At least one bomb was laden with right-wing memes.

To be fair, families are entirely capable of dividing and not speaking with each other even without getting politics involved.

Speaking from experience.
To quote Jack Handey, "It's sad how families can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs."

All right...since it was noted that there's not much to talk about, and we have a midterm election literally two weeks away, let's talk about the horse race. In a regular election year, we'd have been talking about polls and demographics and shit for six months or more.

Basically there's three sets of elections to pay attention to:

1. Governors
2. Senate
3. House of Representatives

First up, governors:

There are 39 state and territorial governorships up for election this year, an unusually large number. 28 of these are currently held by Republicans, two by independents, and the remaining nine by Democrats. Which means a good opportunity for Democrats to take a majority of governorships. On the face of it, that doesn't seem to be much of a prize -- governors don't make law. BUT -- as California and some other blue states have shown, they can certainly choose to drag their feet on implementing Federal law, refuse to implement Federal law, or push their state legslatures to make laws that fill in the gaps left by repeal of Federal laws.

Having a friendly governor also certainly helps a candidate during the 2020 election, especially in battleground states.

Races to watch:

Damn, that took a lot more work than I expected. I'll work on the Senate and House entries later on.

It's not really that surprising, honestly. With any luck, this marks the beginning of the transformation of American politics into a subdivision of the WWE, with politicians trading in their unassuming business suits for skin-tight leotards in intense primary colors. If you don't have a signature move that represents your family values, are you really even a patriot?
I'd like to run under the mantle of "General Disorder", with my signature move "The Conservaslam".

@Reelya: Well, it is the UK. Dental hygiene isn't exactly a national value.  :P

In other UK Memetastic news, Facebook has hired Sir Nick Clegg, former LibDem leader, as their Head of Global Affairs. Worst hire, or THE worst hire? I mean, look at what he did for the LibDem brand over his tenure...

"Action" does need to be measured though, because the US-Saudi relationship, toxic or not, does have a lot of economic clout.

Case in point: Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin made the decision not to attend a Saudi investment conference that he had been previously booked for.
The Dow fell 400 points after news of that broke.

The WH may be amoral, but "the market" is even more amoral. It doesn't give a flying fuck about doing the right thing, if it means shareholders might get a smaller return on investment.

So robots are basically just making videos that robots want to watch? Selfish bastards.

Well, it stands to reason that if Florida is America's dong, then the panhandle (and the small Gulf Coast portions of Alabama and Mississippi) is America's taint.

One of the other problems with native tribal names is that for a large number of tribes, their own tribal name usually equates to something like "the people", and their names for neighboring tribes (especially ones they didn't get along with) were far less flattering. And often a dominant tribe's names for people in their region is what stuck.

Example 1: The Apache. Their indigenous name for themselves is inde, "people". The word Apache is (depending on which etymology you believe), either a Zuni word for the Navajo tribe (which are a related subgroup of the Southern Athabaskan family), or a Yavapai word for "enemy".

Example 2: The Chichimeca. An indigenous group in NW Mexico, the word chichimeca comes from Nahuatl and meant "dog people", with similar connotations as the word barbaros carried in Classical Greece.

Example 3: The Zhuang. The largest of China's 55 recognized ethnic minorities (a whopping 1.2% of the population), the character originally used to write their name meant "a type of wild dog". This bit is hard to explain, but the left-hand portion of the character (which often gives you a sense of a 'category'), was the radical used for animals rather than people. In 1949, this was recognized as pejorative and replaced the animal radical with a human radical, but still kind of translated as "human+child servant". Better, but still patronizing as fuck. Finally, during a round of character simplifications in the 1970s, it was changed to a new character altogether meaning "strong".

The thing is, all three of those groups (mostly) proudly call themselves by the common appellations given to them, regardless of the original pejorative meanings. Hell, even "Yankee" was originally a pejorative used by the British against the colonials, then adopted by the colonials, then used by Southern Americans to refer to Northern Americans, and finally adopted with gusto by New York's professional baseball team.

As Lord Shonus said, probably best to let people decide what they want to be called, whether that's ethnic, political, gender orientation/identity, etc.
