How do I join?

To join you need a character, you can either take control of Ochita the miner, or Urist the brewer or REvist the hunter. Or you can describe your character and i will give him stats, OR you can make entirely customised yourself with the system below...

Skills I will do like this: You get 10 points you can spend on the following skills http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Skills. One point buys one rank up, but if you take at least 5 skills you get +5 more points for being versatile. **EDIT: but they must all be rank 2 or 3 to qualify**

Attributes will be based of of this http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Attributes but I have reduced the number of attributes to 10 because many are bast represented in game by the player, like creativity. As you can see the attributes go from a neutral level to +4 ranks if you are unbelievably strong to -4 ranks if you are unfathomably weak.           You get 10 rankups for your attributes.  Also the stats are reduced to

Strength
fine coordination
gross agility
toughness
endurance
health
Intellect
willpower
perception
charisma

Lastly you can trade 1 attribute rankup for 3 skillpoints or 3 skillpoints for 1 attribute rankup. and noone can start with a skill better than talanted.

lastly you get starting equipment 800 bucks worth, the equipment list is found on the first page, and if you would like anything else you can ask me for its stats and cost. Or i can make a character for you out of a description or something

Ps there are sample characters all over the first page to get an overall idea of what the end result should look like, feel free to ask me any questions, and once your guys is done you join the community right away.

Day 37...

Nirur unseals the many hatchways and doors and comes out of his tower basement.  He checks the constructions on the walled off hospital...But it is still sealed tight as a vault. Next creates blocks 8 blocks, working furiously in his customised workshop. (-8 rock +8 block). In the afternoon and evening he sleeps and eats along in his basement, with only his crudely engraved tables to keep him company.
That night though, during guard duty. he notices movement in the dark. He peers and crouches low in case of attack. From the volcano-side, he sees figures moving indistinctly beyond the walls. They seem to notice with time, and they hold still. But Nirur is confident he knows where they are and he fires a bolt at his best guess estimate and it shatters on a rock. However. The shadowy fuigures bolt and scatter in different directions. He remains on his guard the rest of the night, but they are not noticed again....for now.

Cheddarius Butchers the werewolf. He strips enourmous slabs of meat off and adds them to the stocks, Much of it is wasted but days and days worth of food are salvaged from the body. The butchering takes time, as the meat is tough and sinewy, luckily the thick tough hide is hard to tear and gets yanked off without damaging it further. * 8 untis of strange meat and 8 units of sinister fat are piled into a barrel with the rest of the meats. (+8 strange meat +8 sinister fat +spooky wereskull + savage werebones + imperfect wereskin) He works even harder on his next shift, the toll wearing on his healing body, but he is healthy enough to withstand it for now. (280/400%done) He works to his limits working on the next iron breastplate, it is mostly complete but not done yet, he stops once he feels his wounds getting to him.

Adwarf works madly, preparing for some unknown project, first he crafts 2 mechanisms, then he makes 2 more, its all a learning process for adwarf but it must be begginners luck because they seem appropriate enough. he then installs a lever into the tower 1 basement while nobody is there, before falling sleep.

Garul finds the 8 silver bars left at the forge, and makes makes half a stack of silver bolts (120/200$%done). In the afternoon, he takes care of some personal matters, and washes away the unsightly pools of blood at the entrance. In the Evening he patrols a bit, and much to their surprise sees 3 kobolds once he turns the corner around the perimeter wall. Garul turns the corner and sees the 3 kobolds boosting each other up to try to peek over the wall. He is outside the fortress walls, checking the outside perimiter, but they spot him and quickly scatter before he can get a good shot. He fires at one of their backs anyways but it was too far.

Cog Fires up the Kiln, and begins working on a set of tools, prods, knives, forceps, and other trinkets suitable for surgery. Work begins and he makes some progress, but each tools takes a few tries to be up to standards, and he estimates it will take quite some time at this rate(80/1000%done). Thereafter he does his daily bandage change, Ochita's infection has not seemingly gotten worse yet, Urist sleeps seemingly calmly, Hrodegr has made very good progress on his recovery, he could go back to work now probably, but maybe he is lazy, and Cheddarius realy feels sore, either that is a good sign or he worked too hard, Cog cant really tell with his knowledge. Theres probably a small risk but dwarves are hardy.

Day 38 approaches....

* You have just uncovered your first items of power. Certain Items resonate with legend and myth. Dwarves may utilize these items in the construction of exceptional, and sometimes even magical items. The attempt consumes the item, so make the attempt count, take extra time, utilize an assistant, break out your best tools and take extra time. Go for broke and hope for the best and who knows what you might get! Describe what you craft, visualize it, and dont forget to make it menace! Current items are the wereskull, wereskin, and werebones.

Meh hes alright, Nobody else got any good abilities either except maybe double dwarven digging so i cant complain. Ill have to wait and see if +1 armor makes a difference or if the undead book is a worth using. Does this mean i dont have any spells i can cast or enchantments i can place?
Can i have my fur still covering me? I really like not having to be dwarves though, i have so many ideas of what i could play as. and they are all equally ridiculous/awsome.
what im afraid of is that nobody feels particularly distinct or more awesome than say a generic peasant with a pitchfork, but i havent played yet so its just a feeling, are people stats different but just hidden or something?

Ok ill be an enchanter that does enchanty stuff with a book on animating the dead, which is just enchantment of a corpse eh? Feel free to give me mostly minotaur and lich abilities because i am just starting out in magic.

and i'd like my magic 2 work by using a vaguely relevant item to power a spell. Such as combinging a sword and a demons horn to make a flaming sword or a onyx and a corpse to make a zombie or an owl and a bear to make ... AND OWLBEAR. or consuming a voodoo doll i made to agonize a target. My other ability i'd llike to be suited to my combat style of charging a single opponent and tackling/horning/shield ramming or shoving a guy over and then ground and pounding.

PS im open to ideas thou, RAMS idea sounds good too, i love me some minions, i want to make a pit trap with skeletal groundhogs at the bottom :)

Nah, we wouldn't put one of our own in danger like that. You know, you don't have any weapons. You should take my glass dagger.
And, uh, this glow worm I found.

...you'll need it.

This sounds like an entertaining sidequest!

Yay, due to a quirk of listing personal inventories before updating the stockpiles(as per request), your bandages were NOT in fact stored in the hospital(they were indeed still in your backpack). (I took all the food/beers/consumables from personal inventories and added them to the stockroom and hospital stocks, in order to present a more accurate view of fortress items to people who were looking over the stocks and trying to decide what to do!)

Seeing Cog running around babbling to himself about bandages, Cheddarius goes to his room and gets his personal bandages from his personal inventory personel pack, and hands them to Cog! Cog changes bandages on everyone! (-4 bandages +Health!)

Lol, jsut toss him in a ditch why dont ya!

Thread or canvas can be gotten by cannibalizing some canvas items or clothing. Although not at a very efficient rate, like 1 set of clothes = a pack of bandages. Otherwise it needs to be planted, im shure somone has brought pig tail seeds. Hrodegr is a clothesmaker he probably has a some. One month grow time on pig tails. btw

Well these guys have the coddling done so i will encourage you with tough love.

C'mon man up and just do it! we dont need to fancy spelling and formatting, just hide the rolls cut some corners and let the players handle the minutae and descriptions. Were all dying to know how everyone dies in the end. If you say one day gets done at least we can give you input on what we do on the next day! and then you can resolve 2 days in one post! think of the possibilities!

Day 37...
The Days wear on, The certainty that some creature comforts need to begin grows in the back of their minds. The personal bedrooms are a nice touch, but maybe a dining hall, fancier food, or at least some smoothed stone. But all of those will come in time, for now noone seems to be afflicted with space madness. No dwarf is ever truly satisfied, there is always MORE, but for now progress is steady, and safety is a more pressing concern.

Cheddarius Recuperates, getting up only to feed himself. He is seen laying in his room patting his belly with crumbs on his bed (-fish -the good beer ++mood). Later in the evening he begins working in the farm fields, attempting to plant some whip vine along the swampbanks. He manages to plant 5 days worth of whip vine * During the night, we works by candlelight and produces  4 blocks in a fit of dedicated work. He hears the faint echo of a strange rapping tremor traveling down the halls, quite mysterious. (-4 rock +4 block)

Cog walks between the wounded dwarves, asking if everything is ok, Cog cancels task: unable to find bandages. He tries to go down to the hospital, but it seems to be walled off, all the stuff was stored there! Instead he does the best he can, cleans the wounds with alcohol and evaluates the progress of the injuries by poking them with a stick. Cheddar and Hrodegr are recovering, but Ochita and urist drift in and out of deleriousness and conciousness, Ochita has a wound starting to infect. Urist is pale but not getting worse. There is not much Cog can do about how long it will take for their bodies to heal, not at Cogs skill level anyways, unless he really wants to attempt surgery.

Garul goes to his workshop, stepping over a dead werewolf corpse, and makes 3 mechanisms. Then he cuts heavily into his sleepytime, enjoying a slow ponderous meal, He picks the plumpest plump helmets, tucks in a makeshift bib, cutting his plump helmet into thin delicate slices and enjoying each morsel, and washing it down with sips from his murky water filled cup. He cleans up the remains of his double copper gate. He seems to recall an era of dwarven history where only copper had been mastered, it was limited to small short stabbing weaponry and crude bashing axes, certainly not lare metal protective gates, at least not without a copper alloy. Maybe the fortress will strike zinc, or was it nickel that is needed for bronze? He ponders it in his mind while patrolling that night.

Nirur plasters and cements a rock door together during his first shift, focusing on sturdyness. He takes his time on a single door, and it is built sturdier than a brick outhouse. The rocks fit together well, with hardly any vulnerable cement seams visible between them. It should hold up to anything short of a determined bronze pick onslaught. He then works on his tower, working in a haze, he miraculously finishes that floor of the tower, and the cieling too! and theres even a Magenta Opal in his pocket, where did he find that?  (dammit man theres only a 4.6296% chance of critting stop it.) (-x blocks -1 rock +1 Sturdy Rock Door +tower level done)

Adwarf checks the stocks, and while they have plenty of stone, wood is in short supply, so he goes out and gathers wood. As he is collecting wood from off the ground dangerously far from the fortress, He hears a thundrous crash. Investigating with crossbow drawn, he finds a recently fallen tree, marked by savage clawmarks. Its roots came right out of the soft earth apparently, and he grips it with both hands and slowly but shurely drags it back to the fortress as only a dwarf can. In the evening, he goes about searching the stockroom for silver, Turns out there is a health pile of silver ore available, He decides to take it over to the forge and manages to cast some into bars without burning himself. Pleased, he puts the 8 bars away and he is now one step closer to having a silver weapon.( +32 wood, -8 silver ore +8 Silver bars)
