Day 27,28,29,30, and 31

A Migrant has arrived!

Garul builds entrance doors suitable for a dwarven fortress, and smelts soem ore from the stocks, otherwise he recuperates and rests, some would criticize him, but his mood profits. (+2levers +1door -4 mechanisms -2 levers -2 doors -16 iron ore +16 iron bars, free time +++ hearty eating++)

Nirur Walls off the lower hospital. He notices a miasmatic hint of decay emenating from below as he works. He completes the wall and puts it off his mind for a while, but checking back on it he notices it has been partially deconstructed. it is re-walled off and reinforced and smoothed, so that no dwarf could tamper with it later. He completes a fine set of blacksmithing tools, almost as good as a real set of metal tools. It'll do. And practices his marksmanship untill he ruins 30 bolts (*walled off hospital* +Stone Blacksmiths Toolset -30bolts)

Cheddarius completes a fine crossbow, every piece is sturdy and it shows in its reliable accuracy. His ironwork finishes 2 of the fine breastplates, but 4 are left to go, a softer metal would have gone faster, but iron is better than that. He carves bone bolts 40 of them. and builds the walls up a little higher, though a few strategicaly placed fortifications are completed in little time.(-1 iron +very strong iron foot-crossbow accurate -2 bone +40 bone bolts -6 iron bars +2 fine iron breastplate -8 rock +2nd story wall completion 8/32% done +wall fortifications.

Cogs cabin is built up, an attic is added, a door is installed, a fence is erected, and an entrance alcove is built. (upgrades cabin, adds attic)

The other Cog (Cog the glassmaker) is welcomed into the fortress, dwarves bustle to and fro focused on their tasks. They seem helpful though and bring him his requested materials before days end. With building materials in hand he looks about for any empty space to put up his workshop. But is forced to place them outside the fortress walls. The surrounding swamplands are unfreindly to say the least. Before long he is gathering silt from the swamp with a spare 300$ fur fine bag. Regardless, he finishes a clear glass statue by days end (you may continue to contine to work on some projects, by keeping the end result in mind and taking extra time, by adding value to something this way you can create epic items or furniture, your skill influences limits and chance of failure. But i require exposition to add value this way, even if it merely menaces with spikes of something.) Later he raids the stocks when nobody is looking. And adds much coal and glass to the stocks. But he stops before burning the very last of the wood.( +7 charcoal +7 green glass -17 wood +1 clear statue of Cog -5 fish, Mood++)

Hrodegr 4 leather bags
Ochita mines 20 down, 20 towards under the swamp.
Revist creates 5 buckets 5barrels
Urist brews 20 fantastic Whip Wine(++)

Moods everyoen gets - for losing a fellow dwarf lately and - for being accosted by blood gnats
--Adwarf +Took joy in the slaughter -Has witnessed tragedy +Triumph
+Cheddarius +Satified at work recently
Cog +Made a satisfying aquisition lately
--Cog++ good food and eatery
--Eral??
---Garul +++Feasting ++Good eats +Satisfied at work
---Hrodegr +satisfaction
-----Nanothnir??
--Nirur +satisfied at work recently
+Ochita
--Revist+
--Urist+

Also i had taken a willow shield from the stocks. also the Mechanics workshop is not listed, nor are the tools, though they exist.
OOC: the misscommunication is that my last inventory listing was by request and i forgot to put up a date on that list. It has not been updated with the most recent actions such as picking up the shield. Normally i try to update everything by week, but i got some requests so i wrote down my info. But yeah i shoulda dated that "as of end of day so and so"  And the mechanis workshop missing thats a typo ill fix that next end of week update. its on my physical map.

next is cheddarius noticing of the stocks. That is a lot of food to go through in such a short time, but keep in mind that I remove the food a weeks worth at a time. I dont update the food every day, i only update it at the end of the week, charging the stocks for all the dwarves at the end of the week. so if you look at day 6 and day 7 it might look like x(where x is the number of dwarves) weeks worth of food dissapeared in one day.

oh and there is one unit of alligator bones, one of sloth bones and one of slothbearbones. it was a sloth-bear, maybe some people dont know what that is so http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloth_Bear there is a link its a real critter not a giant olmman or giant caveswallowman or owlbear or anything.

Thats for the input i like seeing the enthusiasm, it'll all be clearer when the end of week update comes where all the stocks are up to date simulteneously. its just that i got several requests.

I'd like to be a fresh migrant:

Anyone care to clue me in on the current state of the fortress?

The state of the fortress is strong! it is pretty crowded. 2 dwarfs have died recently, the stocks look good for now. contact has been made with hostile outside forces however. Nobody has been down to the lower depths in quite some time. Some of the other dwarves are suspected to have become semi melancolic, or catatonic, or just plain crazy, they have not been acting like themselves, the area is a terryfying one so bizzare creatures assault the dwarves with frequency. Am i missing anything important?

Edit in response to cheddarius ............ ummmm... a varmit tried to eat a bone choked and died and made up the missing bone....yeah thats what happened. Also one unit of each bone, a unit of bones can become 20 arrows, or a bone helmet, or mabe just one bone toe ring.
the generic pile of 21 bones is from miscelaneus racoons, birds, hedgehogs ect...

i can throw things, anything could be my weapons, like a rock or a coin. I once cut a kobold in half with a butterfly you know.

ill copy paste the relevant section i should probably update hte first post with that or something... anyways be right back

yes you may take control of a dwarf that is unclaimed or ...

Skills I will do like this: You get 10 points you can spend on the following skills http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Skills. One point buys one rank up, but if you take at least 5 skills you get +5 more points for being versatile. **EDIT: but they must all be rank 2 or 3 to qualify**

Attributes will be based of of this http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Attributes but I have reduced the number of attributes to 10 because many are bast represented in game by the player, like creativity. As you can see the attributes go from a neutral level to +4 ranks if you are unbelievably strong to -4 ranks if you are unfathomably weak.           You get 10 rankups for your attributes.  Also the stats are reduced to

Strength
fine coordination
gross agility
toughness
endurance
health
Intellect
willpower
perception
charisma

Lastly you can trade 1 attribute rankup for 3 skillpoints or 3 skillpoints for 1 attribute rankup. and noone can start with a skill better than talanted.

lastly you get starting equipment 800 bucks worth, the equipment list is found on the first page, and if you would like anything else you can ask me for its stats and cost. Or i can make a character for you out of a description or something

Ps there are sample characters all over the first page to get an overall idea of what the end result should look like

HELL YES! bonus points if you narrate a dance number involving the npc, hehe i joke. You can take a NPC or bea migrant that shows up right away, it was a mistake to delay the other migrants earlier. Enthusiasm doesnt come cheap.

I will be engaging montage mode, once i think everyone is ready. This is a good time to rank up in skill with practicing some odd skill or complete large projects.

MONTAGE MODE: rest of week 5
FACT:  Everyone-once in a while I will invoke a montage...
FACT: ... this one will progress time forward 5 days.
FACT: What i request from each player is awhoppping 5-10 shifts, as everyone works one or two shifts the whole 5 days
FACT: To balance any hard work out i reccomend choosing to eat the good quality food or booze if you are going to work double shifts.

In a montage you have the power of artistic licence. Describe the scenes of your character working his shifts
Example: Oddom the Woodworker wishes to learn the fine art of axefighting, He Seizes his trusty felling axe and twirls it judging it for ballance...Imagining himself hewing those tall humans left and right he swings his axe to and fro in the privacy of his room...Soon grunts and panting can be heard echoing down the fortress hallways...In the end he twirls his axe standing dramatically on the peak of a volcano and swinging his axe at 2 target dummies to his left and right...The Dummies fall in front of him after a short delay, Oddom posing melodramatically... (Oddom uses all 14 shifts training axe- that contributes 114 hours to axe skill and may be enough to give him a permanent point in his skill)

NOTE: I will give a special bonus to anyone who presents an example of the music used for his montage, A link to youtube will do. Here is an example montage for inspiration   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU9Uwhjlog8

the crossbow levels correspond to the strenght levels, +1 is strong +2 is very strong +3 is mighty +4 is unbeleivably mighty. So a +3 strength (mighty level of strength) would be able to draw a mighty crossbow. maybe i should call is a +3strenght crossbow for simplicity? or would that cause more confusion like it was a magic crossbow?

A foot crossbow adds more damage, but it is slower to load, everyone still needs to be as strong as the crossbow or stronger to use it however. SO you could make a crank crossbow that is unbeleivable strong on top of that, but it would take an unbelivable strong dwarf to draw it and would still take 30 seconds, allthough you could probably kill a giant eagle with it.

852
Vallan puts a hand on the warriorrs shoulder, "dont worry, i will construct a great fighting platform, with menacing wooden spikes protruding everywhere below it, you battles atop it will be epic! and i might even install some swinging spiked copper balls to periodically swing across it too!"

853
On the first day Raul-Estevan-Castillo will survey our building to learn more about it and get to the roof to look around. If that is impossible or he has extra time , he will dig up the floor and hide a box of food and water underneath just in case we are raided. Once on the roof we will scan the area for movement or interesting locales.

That Night, Adwarf returns, but noone gets up to check to see what he brought back.

Day 26

The Fog clears, and the blood gnats return in force. the outside looks a little like a fortress now, with walls and a tower wedged in between the volcano side and the swamp.

Cheddarius Smelts one iron (+1 iron ore -2 wood) and spends his time making an iron crossbow. he half finishes it, the stock and body is complete, Should he make it a plain crossbow, strong crossbow, very strong crossbow, mighty crossbow, or unbelivably strong crossbow? lesser dwarves cannot draw the mightiest crossbows.  In the afternoon he hammers out one of the two brestplates (+2 copper breastplates) It is a crude but effective thing, good enough to turn aside spears, arrows, darts and some swords he bets, of course nothing is absolute proof, but more or less. He dines on fish(+), and easily falls asleep. During The night he dreams vivid dreams, with crossbows in his mind, he thinks of the crossbows he has seen built. the plain crossbow (3sec reload), a repeating crossbow(0 sec reload), a foot operated crossbow(6sec reload), or a crank operated crossbow(30sec reload) each might be useful in the future.

Garul uses the last of the remaining copper to forge 2 doors. he completes one, hammering tirelessly to compensate for actual relevant smithing skill. Then he rests, socializing with others (+) and breaks open some of the good booze (+) before falling asleep with the bottle empty in hand.

Nirur Crafts some blacksmithing tools, he works like a demon possesed and bores himself with such mundane work... he gets creative, and constucts a revolutionary system of modular interchangable tools, but by the time he finshes the parts are just a bunch of wobbly peices that make no sense (critical failure) (-10 stone and no usable tools) He spends the rest of the time guarding  and sleeps.

Hrodegr (-1 leather +1leather torso armor 120$ + carves a decorative image of a savage alligator 120$)

Cog traps a puma in his trap... it would be unwise to approach it?

Ochita (-4 rock +4 mechanisms)

Revist (-2 skull +2 totem 80$ each)

Urist renders fat (-24 fat +24 tallow)

Prepare for ..... A Montage!!!!!!!!!
