TWILIGHTAUTHORS! That's too good to be true. I hated that book I still find that funny.
I'm on a 2x2 map area, I've hit HFS, go my undergrund river and am working on setting up my tower cap cavern... But there is still an extreme shortage of wood... luckily all my trade people keep bringing in metric shit-tons of the stuff.
Now I've just gotta get teh king and all those useless nobles into the same room so i Can enact 'Plan Communism'
I've been a bit distracted by a combination of seeking work, doing schoolwork, and a resurgence of interest in D&D. The Blacksun site, and the world is one of the most dynamic I've had yet, and is set up for some very interesting eventualities. I fully intend to continue this story, but for now, it will most likely be postponed, until the next release of Dwarf Fortress sweeps me into it again.
Urist McDwarf: Our magma pressure will blot out the sun!

I think you must have missed him picking up a high-quality barrel and beating his abusive father to death with it when he arrived as an immigrant. It's the only reason I can think of why he would go so insane at the idea of losing any of his precious barrels. Can I sig this?
Either that or he somehow played Donkey Kong way, way too much.
The only loss of a fortress that I've ever suffered was because of skeletal giant eagles. I embarked with a proficient axedwarf, and within minutes a SGE showed up. The axedwarf defeated it without any problems. A couple more showed up, and he killed them just as easily. The next one, however, was a different story. It absolutely annihilated my axedwarf, and began attacking the rest of the party. I recruited everyone, but the eagle wrecked them all, even entering my tunnels in pursuit of the dwarves. All died, except one who lay wounded. I kept hoping that he would recover before he died of thirst, and while he was still alive, migrants arrived! The eagle promptly killed all the migrants. The injured dwarf died of thirst. The end.
I don't know what made this particular eagle so badass... I'm guessing it just got lucky during its encounter with my axedwarf, and wrestling civilians wasn't much of a threat.
