Well, looks like this game will be out in a month or less, not that I really care about it.  But just imagine... if the folks at EA or Maxis or whatever were to donate just a tiny fraction (.01%) of the fifty bizillion dollars they are going to earn off of this overblown dressup doll game to Mr. Adams for all the fine inspiration they have received from DF... 

Sigh.

Up to the individual programmers. If I were earning that much, I'd certainly donate some to toady.
(Since my excuse for not donating is having no money.)

Bugger, gonna have to redesign my elf drowning cha- i mean trade depot.

Store the water underneath, and use powered pumps to fill the depot with it from above. Either you'll drown the elves, or bludgeon them with ice.

I like it. Gives another plentiful colour for my colour-coded levers, constructions, and gearing. Which is important when you have like 15 levers and hundreds of gears and axles controlling what you're doing with magma and water, and pulling them in the wrong order could flood everything or kill hundreds.
And you have a terrible memory of what does what.
You can use [N]otes for that, but i agree with you, its just a matter of taste, some people like it, some don't. No real reason to kill it then, and if microline messes your legendary dining room's colours, so will all other rocks and ores.

I keep being told that, but it never quite triggers until the point where I have, say, 5 rhyolite levers in a room, all with one mechanism, all hooked up to the same device.

Next time it happens, I'm cutting my losses, backing up the save, and ripping out the whole assembly.

How: I chain breeding pairs up in the dining hall, and cage anything else.

Why: Food. Soap. Bone bolts and crafts. Skull totems.

Why I never use them: Goblins supply trade goods through their clothing, their bones, and their skulls. I use hunting in the hope that someone useless tries to wrestle the friendly neighbourhood cougar to death and gets nommed on.

Look for warm stone, and dig around and above it. Eventually you'll find the top layer so you can punch in harmlessly.

Smooth everything. Engrave some walls. Mine a lot, kill some animals and make crafts from their bones.

Then recycle the iron the goblins bring, decorate their clothing with their bones, and offer it to the king while you sell him their skulls.

Water's very good for removing caravans. I mean, my fort in dorf heaven spent the first seasons getting an elf drowner operational instead of making trade goods, with the aim of killing the elves, eating their animals, and selling their crap to the humans and dwarves to ease production.

Shit. I don't think I remember how to MAKE a fort profitable without constant goblin sieges and ambushes providing trade goods and raw materials.

Speaking of elves and cloth.  They seem to bring me only cloth after year 3 or so, no matter what I buy from them.
