There are a LOT of haulage jobs from goblin junk, and I want to speed them up through automation.

That said, I absolutely love the drowning chamber. I have the spiral ramp entrance to the lowest Z-level,

How do you drain it if it's on the lowest level? Pumps?

- Mining a hole in my elf drowner system, causing a flooding of my trade depot that took a full year to solve.

EDIT:
- Modding the elf drowner, but getting the logic wrong with the windmill. Cue partly flooded trade depot while I install another lever and mechanism system to correct the error by inverting the gear assembly.

If only copper were magma-resistant. Every map I play seems to have metric-buttloads of copper yet I have yet to see an actual iron vein :(

Bootstrap. Work the copper to arm the military, harvest iron from fallen goblins. It works for me; I'm sitting on a fuckton of magnetite but have hardly made a start on it because of all the iron chainmail.

Unicorns are pretty nasty, embark somewhere Good. My current fort did that, and the butcher/hunter bought it straight off the bat. Wandered off, then a horn through the gut.
Later on, there were a few unicorn-related deaths and injuries, a few dead dogs, and now the buggers are wiped out.
Down to just unicorn leather and =unicorn skull totems= now. And my main food source is farmed cattle and horses, rather than hunted unicorn. And my main resource is narrow leather and silk underwear because of the damn goblins.

There is. If you make a few catapult pieces and leave it at that, they won't work too well. If you create hundreds, the worker's skill will improve and he'll innovate, making adjustments to the design.

Simple; all non-useful dwarves (those that are neither in the starting seven, immigrants with skills, apprentices designated because I need more of a certain type of dorf, or have gone fey and become legendary) have masonry enabled. Workshop profiles keep all the random dorfs from making furniture I need to be valuable.

I seem to have solved my elf problem. This is the third or fourth year in a row they haven't shown up, thanks to early spring goblin sieges.

That, or I insulted them too much.

Either way, they're gonna be fucking PISSED when they finally show up. Large-scale logging and terraforming, including draining and refilling a few pools.
