DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Bedrooms vs. Dormitories

Space is cheap, and dorfs need all the happiness they can get. Carving out individual rooms can be done in bulk, and helps train up miners. It can also double as exploratory mining.

Projectiles.
Load them into a minecart, fire them at besieging forces. Or drop them from a great height.

I had a human swordsman visitor end up dead in my tavern. I didn't find any puke, but then again I didn't notice until there was miasma floating around.

I'm sure that some fastidious dwarf came and cleaned up all that nasty puke, just probably missed the dead body.

Aren't corpses auto-forbid by default?

There's no such thing as 'excess' rocks. Have them wheelbarrowed to a stockpile for creating blocks!

Maybe he's being swamped by them, or massacring them?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Muddy roads? Diverting rivers, piping, wells.
« on: December 11, 2015, 09:26:51 am »
I have had trees grow on constructed floors in earlier editions.

Mud, however, isn't much of a contaminant. Just screw-pump the water into the wells to avoid anything like blood getting into it.

Probably something to do with the new fort visitors. It makes more sense to put your dead human bard in the corpse stockpile than in the refuse one.
Yea, but it's also annoying to need to dump each wave of monster corpses into the trash compactor, instead of just having a hauling route do it for me. :/

Well, can't you simply mass-dump the corpses left in the stockpiles after the mounts have been butchered?

Otherwise, does the refuse stockpile not have options for specific kinds of corpses any longer?

Single rows of ramps work fine. Stairs definitely do not.

I regularly site my depots underground, in easily defensible places and with a drawbridge to keep invaders out and traders in.
It also helps to retain water should the elves bring nothing but cloth again.

Paved roads do not grow plants, even if they accumulate mud.

Constructed floors can grow plants, trees, or farms if made muddy.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How many guests do you get in your fort.
« on: December 09, 2015, 03:49:52 pm »
At 63, I closed my tavern and temples to visitors. All of my guests went an packed into the library so I turned that off too. Now they're all camping out around my well. It's so tempting to figure out how to get some magma over there, or maybe just unleash an Ettin in the middle of the crowd. Go home! Drink your own crappy beer!

Wells are a problem solver all of their own. Build a wall around it, then engineer some flooding from it.

Socialization has ALWAYS been a ticking time-bomb when it comes to dwarves. The trick is to keep them busy busy busy so they don't have time for it.

It's not your fault if the tavern mysteriously floods while the doors are locked.

There aren't a lot of problems in DF that can't be solved by copious amounts of water. Or magma, but that'd destroy the booze and the engravings.

Have you tried putting a mug stockpile in the dining room?

The solution is to put magma underneath, so it stays warm.

Hell, why not put magma under the river as well, to keep that flowing? Heat the fort with it, too!

Have you got cut or rough gems to hand as well?
