Yes. Marksdwarves firing on a live target fire like machineguns compared to training, wrestlers get so many holds in it's absurd, and weapondwarves hack away merrily on live opponents.

I've found that, eventually, they'll get surgeried and set despite not resting. I've never SEEN it happen, it just occurs when I'm not looking.
I think that either the surgeon corners them, or they're ambushed while sleeping.

I defend the trade depot.

Quite frankly, I don't give a flying fuck what the caravans trip. It just means one of my dwarves isn't ambushed and killed. Plus, if their pack animals die (no wagons in 31.16. :( ), I get their stuff free.

Okay, forgive a possibly stupid question but what effect does fertilizing have on crops? And is it even necessary?

It improves yield. It's not necessary at all, but it gives bigger stacks of crops.

Frankly, unless your main growers just got murdered by goblins, and you're really low on booze, you won't need to bother.

Do animal-people need to eat and drink? I caught a thirsty tigerman in my array of cage traps, and I want to know if I can stuff him into a cage without worry.
I mean, he's a high master wrestler and fighter thanks to being in there when the last titan attacked.

I generally give traders a 50% profit anyways, just to get them to bring me more stuff.

The elves, however, have profits squeeeezed tightly to get their 'worthless' animals.
