General Discussion / Re: The EU super state...

But, once again, can we please stop with the unsolicited America bashing in every thread?  I'm talking to you Dwarf.  You don't think we have a culture only because our movies and television have dominated yours.
I didn't mean to bash it, just told what I think is the explanation...
Exactly what I mean.  Throwing out a reflexive experienceless criticism like it's a known fact.  That's bashing.

Bah, okay. You won.

In my general experiance, no matter where I go I never enjoy sightseeing. I'd probably go to a bar or something, maybe even take walks around my area.

But there are quite some free medieval museums, that's what I think is awesome about London. And history is interesting too! (Hell, I wouldn't care if England was under Viking rule or kept by the Anglo-Saxons. But those Frenchie pussys?!)

He got his hand chopped off in some kind of wrestling lock or something, apparently. He is in a bed in my barracks. Will he ever become useful or can I send him to the hospital beds/death chambers?
Wrestling?!

Anyways, he should become fine someday. But it can take quite a few years...

Anything that needs lots of thought, try economy or goverment. I personaly am a junior communist, it's fun and challenging to think up situations. Learn about stocks, or master minipulation

Hey, communism unfortunately has a bad image. Stalin's and Mao's fault, though.
Oh, and the fact that it plain doesn't work and all the communist leaders ever have been bloodthirsty lunatics.
No, Mao and Stalin have been the bloodthirsty lunatics.

DF Suggestions / Re: Paper money

The reason why it is done with metals is because you can just about guarentee the value of a coin since you can pour as much or as little material into a coin as possible.

A gem however could never have a uniform value unless you interested in destroying a lot of raw material.

There are some Stone coins made out of things like Jade.

Well, either we don't need to be so nitpicky, or the really valuable coins could be like gold decorated with ruby or so.

Why restrict this to metals? Engraved small cut gems (or even large for big sums) can work as well.

Oh yeah, and that of course. I didn't specifically mean metals, but just anything of real valor. As it stands, 100$ are worth about... what, 3 cents?

Nah, please no paper money. Good old coins with actual material value. Copper, Silver (=10x copper) and Gold (=10x silver).

Hmm, that came to my mind too.

Must have a look at those.  I'm largely self-taught, and I bet I'm doing something wrong (for now ignoring gross anachronisms like using galvanised steel or anodised copper wire. :)).

There's no anodised copper, either etched copper or Enamaled copper :D

But yeah, it IS a good hobby, and gives bad-ass costumes too.

There's a difference between a large crossbow, like a scorpion, and a ballista, they're quite different.

A crossbow or arbalest, whatever the size, by definition, shoots due to the springback of the lathe. The lathe is made out of wood or well-hardened steel (or it would bend).

A ballista looks similar, but works with the principle of torsion. Basically, the two 'arms' of the ballista are twirled into thick ropes which are fixed on the chassis. When the arms are pulled back, the rope is twisted, building up tosion forces. When the 'trigger' is pulled, the arms are let loose and are violently swung by the sudden springing back of the rope.
