For example, stoning to death, example:

(sorry for double-post)
And, even more.
Jesus, the avatar of love and compassion:

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
Matthew 10.34

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!’”
Luke 19.27

But I tell you most certainly, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9.27
(I think we can assume that all people who 'heard' this are dead by now.)

So, we can conclude that Jesus is intolerant, a liar, and a warmonger.
Luke 19.27 even justifies the crusades.

Thrown in:

Shouldn't believing members of a religion do everything to convert the people around them?
Non-believers would go to hell, and it would be evil to knowingly send them there, no?

DF General Discussion / 40d18 and the Terminal.
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:34:54 pm »
Aight, guys.

I've had the chance to use 40d18 and that really is a whopping fuckload of extra FPS there.
My problem is, on a mac, I'm not actually allowed to use the terminal application. Not allowed as in 'can't even launch', not 'parents said not to'.

If I've had a functioning alt key, I would just hack myself an admin account a say 'Fuck the World', but instead, I'm stuck with 40d.

So, any way to put this
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
PWD=`dirname "${0}"`
export DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH=${PWD}/libs
export DYLD_FALLBACK_FRAMEWORK_PATH=${PWD}/libs
cd "${PWD}"; ./dwarfort.exe
(Which seems to be all what the launcher file (df) contains)

in an AppleScript or Automator routine or whatever?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Boats!
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:28:35 pm »
You fool! If you go out into the water, you're just making it easier for the fish to feed on their favorite prey: Dwarf beards.
Nay sir, if boats are added to the game, I will use them only to dispose of goblins. A true dwarf should be under the mountain (or in a large and overly elaborate palace), not a leaky, creaky boat!

How about sailing boats down your underground river?  Having an artifact stockpile only accessible by booby-trapped dwarf boats?

How about taking Adamantine boats out on magma?  :p
You have to admit, Cypress, that the latter thing is extremely dwarven. ^^
True
Very true.
Still, it lacks something, but I can't put my finger on it

☼Adamantine Battle Axes☼ as rudders?

Oh no not another one of these threads. I'm sorry, but there is literally no point arguing about religion on the internet. Allow me to summarise the arguments:

Religious:

God is so impossibly omniscient and omnipotent that anything you claim to disprove his/her existance is simply a fault of your inferior organic reasoning. Also a few people and a book say he/she exists. Therefore god exists.

Atheistic:

We haven't seen god poke his head out of the clouds and say "Hi! I'm God, and yes, I do exist!" so therefore he almost certainly doesn't exist.

As you can see these arguments aren't provable or disprovable (except by god him/her/itself). Anybody arguing about this is essentially just preaching with the futile hope of converting people. As much as I would like to see people be logical and just give up on religion already, it is an unfortunate fact of human nature that we will find patterns in anything and then try to find something to explain those patterns. Once we have found that something, then we will selectively search for evidence to support it, ignoring evidence against it.

The only tried-and-tested way to get people to believe in the same thing as you is to demonstrate that your belief allows you to explain things that others can't. This is the purpose of science, and only through millions of years (at least) of scientific progress will we be able to truely demonstrate/disprove the existance of deities. The way I see it, god could well exist but his possible domain is limited to everything outside our current understanding of science. The only way to truely know whether or not god exists is to understand everything about the universe. Once we can explain every phenomenon observed then and only then will we be able to safely say that there isn't a god. Until that point I don't care if people want to claim that god created the big bang, just as long as they don't try to contradict observed fact (such as the anti-evolution lobby).

But... fuck.

I mean, religious people.
They simply resist any attempt at logical reasoning!
That drives me batshit insane :(

No offense, but downloading a turn-based strategy game when you're looking for an RPG is... kinda like downloading DF when looking for a FPS..

Fixed.

On the topic of

Viking/Pagan/Folk Metal

Image above is Ensiferum, who has an IMO hot keyboard player and is the probably biggest name in paganesque epic heroic folk metal. Note that these guys are, being Finnish, not Viking metal. Vikings = Norse people, Norse people ≠ Finnish people.

As an example to mind-blowing epic powerful music:
Ensiferum - Heathen Throne
Ensiferum - Tumman Virran Taa
Ensiferum - The Longest Journey (Heathen Throne Part II - part 1)
Ensiferum - The Longest Journey (Heathen Throne Part II - part 2)

Listen it in one go!

Then, we have got Tır.
Tır is a kinda known Viking/Pagan metal band. They hail from the Føroyar (Faroe islands).
They make kind of heavy metal with progressive elements and clear vocals. Also, unlike some bands, I think they get the Viking image across without being ridiculous.

The songs you should probably hear are:
Tır - Regin Smiğur (This is føroyskt, the Faroese language and very close to Old Norse)
Tır - Into the Storm

And last but not least,
Moonsorrow.

They are a melodic black pagan metal ensemble. Also, for fuck's sake, the Finnish language makes me jizz.
Moonsorrow - Sankarihauta Featuring the extremely plowable queen of Iceland.
Moonsorrow - Pakanajuhla

Other big names in the folk/pagan/viking genre include Korpiklaani, Eluveitie, Einherjer, (Amon Amarth is not Viking Metal), Fintroll and many more.

1. Really depends. 1 on one without a shield Spear >> sword.

However even a mediocre shield + short sword will give you a greater advantage vs. a spearman if you're quick.

Too many factors to easily say "this is better than this" :P.

Spears aren't really designed to be used by individuals, they're group weapons. Still, a spearman would probably wield a shield too.

On topic:
Can you actually outrun bolts and arrows?

Spoiler: Look, a desktop (click to show/hide)

I burned today cleaning up my computer, so now we're off to L-land again.  *flagwave*  I wish I could say "because L reminds me of the person I miss," but it's really more "because L wasn't pink with green sparkles like most of my other desktops--and though it's true that I like wallpapers to make your head hurt and soul burn, I just wasn't in the mood for it today."

Meh.  I guess I'm in one of my L moods.  Oh, well.

Looks like... Låt den rätte komma in to me.
Spoiler: Mah desktop (click to show/hide)

Necro'd for the sake of metal.

On the topic of

Black Metal

The signature themes of Black Metal are mainly a bleak outlook at life, and, sometimes, satanism, atheism, antitheism or paganism. It's the metal way to say that life sucks, and does suck hard, in a non-emo way.
As an example of life-hating lyrics:

Black metal, especially black metal drumming, requires skill to play, despite what you might think upon hearing.
Hear closely and isolate the drums. Are you noticing with what insane speed the drums are being played?
That is called a blast beat.

Famous Black Metal bands are, among others: Emperor, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Darkthrone, Immortal. Many others, there is an incredibly huge amount of obscure bands. Early Dimmu Borgir (For All Tid, Stormblåst) are also more widely considered as Black Metal.

Bottom line: Either you like it, or you don't.

DF General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Adamantine

blades transmit nearly no force back to the wielder, practically doubling the force applied to the target.

Wait, what?

Sorry, but even in DF...

No.
Just, No.

I'm no physicist, but I believe you transmit energy from yourself into whatever you're swinging at a goblin (sword, hammer, cabinet) and when said item strikes the target, only some of the energy you expended swinging the weapon will be transmitted away from it (into flesh).  The rest of it manifests as sound energy (*CLANG*) or will be rebounded back into your hand, it's why you feel a jolt when you smack something (just as how it's not the fall that will kill you, but the ground.  all the energy of falling from a great height is suddenly transmitted back into your entire body and you explode into chunks from trying to absorb all that energy at once).  According to this theory, if you were to drop a block of adamantine into the ground, it would most likely sink quite far into it, despite being so light.

not sure exactly, but I think that this fact might conflict with the fact that it makes good armor, just a gut feeling though...

If you are following teh pheesics, the exact same amount of force hitting the enemy will also go in the opposite direction. If you apply 1000 N on a gobbo, 1000 N will come back at your sword or whatever. Being made out of Clownite won't change that.
