DF Suggestions / Re: Total Interface Overhaul (now with sparkles)
« on: March 15, 2010, 01:06:41 am »
My own idea of final interface look is "Illuminated manuscript" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminated_manuscript ) look. Embark message was for example inspired by this.
that would be wondrous.

Right, it seemed like you[PraguePride] were counterpointing to my suggestion when we're talking about mostly separate things.

The last place I could find a mention within this thread of the following issue was page 50, but it bears repeating:

Will ore smelting be changed to always require coal fuel? As it is, in Real Life, Cinnabar is the only ore that can be smelted (into Mercury) using nothing but heat, while all other ores require a reducing agent, usually coke.
Naturally, we can't smelt that.
That's actually a good question. A friend of mine recently asked me "Is Dwarf Fortress heteronormative?" jokingly, but I seriously do wonder that.
Since 100% of creatures breed by spores, and 100% of sentients who marry do so monogamously heterosexually, I think the answer is yes. It bugs me.

On the other hand, because of the spores, can you really tell that no non-heterosexual acti'ity is happening without looking at the code? It's not like you're going to get e'idence.

Also, I can't help but giggle at the innocence of the community members.
What? Also, "The Red-headed League" called. Specifically, they called someone for work, who called a detective...
As much as I would love being able to designate an execution weapon. (Executioner's Swords anyone?)  I imagine [RESPONSIBILITY:EXECUTIONS] implies hammer use.
from link: "the earliest known specifically designed executioner's swords dates to ca. 1540."

Oops.
I am the milkman. My employer has hired me to whitewash what went on here. I make sure no evidence is left of anything, except for milk. I cannot rest until I have made my final delivery.
yes, Mr. Soak!
Literally every part of the food industry in DF is already broken, balance wise, so I don't see the issue here. The only way to solve it would be to rework almost every food item in the game into something inedible, and have a large number of those items then be required to make something edible.
Feed a fort only on trapped vermin yet? Or verminfish? I don't think they work anywhere near "broken" yet so I call shenanigans on "literally"
Assuming you have no fancy irrigation techniques for stone-layer farming, only the topmost layer will be soil, right?
Can be two.
Spoiler: a'ready co'ered (click to show/hide)
Dwarves breathing fire is toggleable too.
But Toady didn't set it up so you could do that with a measly two brackets.

DF General Discussion / Re: The funds! The funds are holding us back!
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:33:21 am »
Can we all just let the matter drop? This discussion will not lead us to a happy place.

Wait, I thought this was the internet, where all places were vicious flamewars punctuated occasionally with banhammers, and the only happy places were the ones where you were winning the wars. (I kid)
The catch is, they ne'er stay won. [like all rules, this has an exception, I personally know]

Let's vote dakarian!
Something happen?

How was he boosted?
same text appears on Nirur. Therefore neither could be boosted.

Something feels off. Petherbridges as Cop Roleblocker? One is a 9th-d at judo, one is an Adelaide landowner, one is a footballer.

Also, webadict, what do you mean by cop roleblocker? roleblocker-of-cops?

Because of the power of having all the races in vanilla DF under their control,
I see no kobolds here. Can they be warred?

DF Suggestions / Re: Improved Farming
« on: March 12, 2010, 02:22:31 am »
Regardless of however much labor it takes...

I've never seen seed hauling as a problem in farming.
Yeah, for any crop I use I make ≈≈≈≈≈≈== and that's that.
Though, the need to do the two-square stockpile per seed type to get them to bag properly is another farming-related problem.

On the off-topic, I humbly submit "oatmeal".

It's back to not-working, though now no quickfix of "remo'e keycap, press squishy thingy"

Oh THAT'S why you do it.  I was seriously starting to wonder if you just liked creating random contractions.
There's a reason for the line in my sig. >,,>

« on: March 11, 2010, 03:04:28 am »
I'm doing it because the 'oting patterns suggest dakarian's exceeded in scumminess right now.

Great no-see-um fallacy there btw. He has one of the jumpiest 'otes(you and dakarian are now worse in that regard), now a 3rd AND 4th 'ote.

Suffice to say that I do not want to see Deon's take on an ancient goblin grandmother

you jinxed it, sensei. Now that's going to happen. I hope you're happy.
Do mind that gobbos are immortal.

Make it an object-to-shortening if you wish, the extension was before I realised it was going through.

Also, 't'

e'erest: + 8 km
sea:0
mindepth crust: -5 km
Max Z: +400
sea: 100
mantle min: -166?

The problem is determining what Z level 0 actually is. If it's the lowest sea floor then that means it's about 5000 meters below sea level. If it's the absolute lowest the sea can go, then it's about 10,000 meters below sea level (that's about how deep the marianas trench is.)

Sea is 0 - 99, land is 100 - 299, mountains are 300 - 400.
I ha'en't gotten below 0 (or was it 1?) sea. Also it truncates the nearby mountains, annoyingly.

rather than something so self-ser'ing.

I don't think I've seen you drop a 'v' in a looong time.

on board w/Extension!
un'ote daka-patterns suggest better. It feels like there's something fishy already with correlation but it's not popping out of my notes.

Nirur Torir has, howe'er, been worse scummier than Toony, definitely. As that's L-1, any last words?

Watch: Mr.Person is a Cult! Oh no!
Agreed.

So the implication is that you can always dig down far enough to hit magma. Is there a point, far enough down, that you would find nothing but endless magma, like reaching the planet's mantle?
Almost certainly not. Fundamental assumptions of the game's engine would have to change, and there's little benefit there.
Indeed, such an area would cause an instant cave-in.

Also, it's several miles of crust before you hit the mantle, and you'd die from the heat long before you reached it. In order to accurately represent that you'd need like ten thousand z levels or something atrocious like that.

e'erest: + 8 km
sea:0
mindepth crust: -5 km
Max Z: +400

mantle min: -166?
Wat

Just an obscure reference that I doubt anyone will get.  This does bring up an interesting point though.  Where are the polar regions in such a world?

"ERAU QSSI DLRO WEHT" is "THEW ORLD ISSQ UARE" backwards. The World is Square.

...I can't believe I didn't get that reference.  Then again, I haven't played FF6 for quite some time.
Original text is something like "Rest in Peace" one way and "rot in your grave" read the other, rather than something so self-ser'ing.
