Except for that first year where you may not have been focusing on crafts and really need to resupply your booze or other goods, is there ever any danger of not being able to buy out the caravan in this version?

Breeders (2-3?) on restraints + 1 Male, restrained and walled off from possible assailants, all calves are thrown in the nearby cage next to the workshop, young males put in a cage next to the butcher shop.

I'm pretty sure if you make your fortress entrance on the beach, the waves will make natural mist.

That, or drown them.

Either way the mist will make them ecstatic!

Dwarfs don't care either way about ocean mist.

Sorry, by "full chain armor" I mean chain mail shirt+chain leggings, and helm+gauntlets+high boots+shield. All made of steel, ranging from normal quality to fine. Gobbies were using iron, copper and silver weapons.

I'm just wondering about the difference between previous goblin encounters (in .06) where swords, mauls, hammers and arrows just bounced off of this armor. A quick examination of inorganic_metal.txt doesn't show any differences between .06 and .08. I guess I'll wait until someone else does more extensive arena tests.

Huh, I'm at work otherwise I'd attempt to run a sample run with zagibu's setup and compare the results.

I can easily lockdown the fort, but I can't lockdown the entire forest when I want to clear it, and the way refuse stockpiles work now (poorly imo) I can't lockdown a big enough area to store all the gobbo corpses outside. Well, I suppose I could, but that seems like a great deal of work to protect your trash.

Have a garbage dump outside and whenever a gobbo corpse shows up in the refuse pile dump it into the quantum pile. Other options are to clear out a lvl of soil layer and pierce the caverns to create an underground forest.

The cave in method is much faster than the screw pump method, I tend to use it to drop a soil layer underground for sunlight farming down where I keep my underground farms. I've had worse luck just letting my miner dig out the last tile in this version so I'd definitely recommend placing a support and attaching it to a lever a distance away.

If the plump helmets are being consumed for dinner or at the brewery then they should be leaving a seed behind. Is your farmer in a burrow that doesn't have access to where you store your seeds? Did you accidently sell all your seeds to the merchant?

Draw bridge your entrance up then throw a few cats over the wall to wander around killing vermin and decloaking ambushes.

Try reclaiming their belongings before dumping. You can also grab their weapons from stocks screen. They should be easy to spot since you dwarfs don't make daggers and the thiefs will be forbidden. I've seen my dwarfs walk up and disarm the thieves while they sat in the animal stockpile, so you don't need to build it first.

And just so it's said make sure you have a garbage dump otherwise they won't dump belongings either.

You'll recieve no foreign help as shells are produced during the cleaning stage now instead of the eating phase.

Most folks get around this by adding the shell tag to the junk goods like cartiledge, hoof, hair and horn you get from the butcher now.
