Curses / Some thoughts and Questions regarding LCS
« on: January 27, 2015, 03:28:08 pm »
So I recently got back into Liberal Crime Squad, finished a pacifist run and made good progress from a violent run. I had some questions and feedback, if anyone is interested.

Before I start, I want to state it was a very fun experience. Kudos to those who have been working on it.

Feedback

First off I felt that hacking was way, way, way too overpowered. My end game sleeper network of over a dozen people was still producing less Liberal Guardian material than one hacker. This is somewhat balanced by the fact that hackers cannot obtain certain types of data (police, prison, cia files), but considering hackers can also influence issues directly I think the rate of them finding LG material could safely be reduced by an order of magnitude and still allow hackers to be useful. As things stand, they make "snooping around" for sleepers in the media, medical research, corporations or the judiciary useless for any reason beyond getting juice.

The Bank Robbery mechanics, specifically the choice between the violent approach and the sneaky one were fun.

I felt the heat mechanics were a bit too forgiving of a pacifistic-but-illegal play through. I never had any heat except on my hacker's hideout for my pacifist game, until relatively late when treason and terrorism charges came in. I imagine that a group of people that go around smashing, stealing, vandalizing and breaking and entering would still attract police attention and raids. Due to the heat mechanics, this also kept me safe from the CSS until I finally obtained sleepers in their ranks.

Questions
How feasible is it to seduce the higher-end conservatives? I never was able to seduce an Agent, Vigilante or any of the "Debate" conservatives (Eminent Scientist, Hangin' Judge etc.), even though I had people with 10+ seduction. I eventually had a liberal squad of guitarists first turn them liberal, then recruit them.

How do you deal with the CEO non-violently? My guitar strategy failed horribly against him.

By what standard does Club security deny entry? Early game, they wouldn't let me in at all until I got a sleeper. Late game, when my sleeper lost contact, I was able to enter regardless  a few times.

Since the CEO is very bad ass and (as far as I can tell) unique, how does one get tipped off against Corporate Mercenaries without a CEO sleeper? Neither my elite security, not my corporate manager sleepers detected it beforehand.

Can corporate mercenaries still raid you? Didn't encounter them my last game.

L++   Research testing is forbidden. Cosmetics and pharmecueticals are dispensed directly to the public.

I don't agree, not because it is extreme, but because it conflicts with the L+ idea of company regulation to dispense pharmecuetecal directly to the public.

By the way, the Intellegence HQ really needs a new name.  How many people know where their neighborhood Intelligence HQ is located?  Nobody, because such buildings don't officially exist.  Full realism would dictate a renaming to "The Government Building", or something like that, and placement downtown.

Err...

CIA headquarters in Virginia.

Not exactly hidden

And now I'm going on blacklist for googling images of CIA headquarters. Yay me!  ;D

I always just found it peculiar that the police are always able to pin the crime on you 100 percent of the time. The fact that organized crime rings exist at all without being bombed to hell by the national guard is evidence enough that this is not strictly the case in reality.

Has the "sleeper outing" feature been removed?

It's possible, but many people will hate it. According to Toady, a L+ society is funny...a C+ society is just disturbing.

I think they're probably just as bad as each other. I probably lean more to sympathize with the conservatives but only because I have a low faith in humanity.

But enough about that... This is about game mechanics! The conservatives are becoming the underdogs and we MUST have the chance to rage against the virtual liberal hate machine  :)!

I think what they tried to say is that L+ laws such as animals as people are goofy, while C+ laws like deathsquads, making women and minorities second class citizens are disturbing.

On an unrelated note do you play Gratuitous Space Battles Fox? I could've sworn I've seen one of your challanges...

Ah I see, some relatively bold sleepers having a chance of getting outed after a bold raid is reasonable I suppose, as opposed to the all sleepers getting outed after almost every raid (current system).

What? First of all if said sleeper is not expected to fight (ie not a security guard, cop, agent etc.) he can just go on with his work and act surprised in case he ever encounters the squad. The presence of the squad can't really affect his cover.

Even if he is expected to fight, the chances of the squad blowing the sleeper's cover are slim. For example if the sleeper is a cop, he may be on patrol that day, he may be in an unrelated section of the police station etc.

I am afraid you did not read my post. I meant if we were to assume the sleepers were warned on the day of a raid, and they were not present (I mean, who would want to be? The entire place could burn down as a result of ensuing combat), it would be very suspicious. If one was gone, it would be simple to explain. If three or four were gone, it would be far more suspicious (assuming that they are warned a single day in advance).

Not that I think the outing of sleepers is right the way it is, considering most of my sleepers are at any time only laying low. During and after a raid, the suspicion level of the sites would be much higher than normal, thusly committing Liberal acts would increase chances of exposure.

A person laying low has no reason to be suspect, they are merely doing their job, not acting liberally. A person advocating liberalism, stealing for the Liberal Cause, or snooping around, might be more prone to being revealed after or during a raid.

Suggestions:

1. Liberals laying low cannot be outed in a raid.

2. Liberals with high efficiency doing something Liberal are unlikely to be outed (perhaps have the percentage of their efficiency be the likelyhood of not being outed during a Liberal Activity).

But who says they have to be missing on the day of the raid? They could simply do their jobs (and act surprised) if they are non-combatant sleepers. The LCS wouldn't target them the same way they don't target other liberals, and they would be evacuated along with everydoby else in the "evacuating area" phase.

Furthermore the other employees don't know that they are "snooping around" or stealing. If they did, they would be fired.

If a group, or a single sleeper is conveniently away on the day of a raid, would this not raise suspicions? Maybe exposure should be more likely when there are numerous people "sleeping" at a raid-site.

That's the funny thing! I have had nothing to do with the powerplant at all, no sleepers, no rampages, no buttonpushing, nothing.

I also don't like the sleeper outed thing because it simply discourages the violent route even more (especially since "political violence" already discourages it alot).

I've been enjoying nightmare mode but have run into 2 issues.

Why do my sleepers get outed when I raid their location? This makes no sense...

Nuclear power has wrapped around from  C+ to L+, any way to fix this without losing my save?
