Now that Mine-carts have been added to the game, has the idea of a Goblin Space Program been re-visited?

By this, I mean an attempt to launch a Goblin from ground level so as to exit the map, via the sky.

Will stripped Goblins (in captivity) put on any new clothes that are provided to them? An Adamantium-cloth Space Suit seems appropriate for the mission. It's too bad we can't make Helmets out of Glass.

AFAIK, building destroyers can smash things from beneath if a valid path to the top of the object exists. They don't need to take that path... it just needs to exist. So if the ONLY way up is to smash the grate from beneath, then they can't do so.

Is the top surface of a Fortification walkable?
Engraved fortifications: yes.
Built fortifications: no.

Fortifications do not pass liquid downwards. They have an implied floor.  Like a constructed upwards staircase.

Rat-boogers. Back to the drawing board.

Is the top surface of a Fortification walkable? Do liquids drain through the top and bottom of a Fortification?

I know that missiles will pass through fortifications... what happens when a missile that's skipping (or bouncing) across the ground crosses a tile which is the top (walkable?) surface of a Fortification... does it continue skipping forward, or drop vertically through the Fortification to the level below?

... I'm building a Squirt Gun, by the way.

What's the simplest way to position a Mine-cart on one specific tile of Track? Channel out the ceiling and Pit it from above? The tile in question is isolated... it has no other Track tiles adjacent.

This thread is to consolidate short questions and answers on game-play mechanics. If we could get it sticky-ed, experienced players could check in once or twice a day to answer noob questions.

Do Dwarves choose new clothes automatically, when they get unhappy with their old, half-rotten clothes?... or do you need to dump the old clothes before they will choose new ones?

When composing a new uniform, with the "Replace Clothing" option... are the clothing/armor items put on in the same order specified in the uniform list? In other words... should I first list all the "Under" items, then all the "Armor" items, then all the "Over" items, and list the "Cover" items last? Will that prevent the Dwarves from trying to put their socks on over their High Boots?

Why not disarm the Goblin while it's still in the cage? Leave him the armor and shield, just take the weapons.

I'm just starting up my Steel and Leatherworking industries. What would be a good uniform to assign to my Military Dwarves?

I've got crap-loads of Iron ore, so I'm going to be using Iron Bolts for live-firing... probably Wooden bolts for practice (if the idiots will switch back and forth properly).

Assuming that I "replace clothing" instead of wearing the uniforms "over clothing", which pieces of gear will fit on a Dwarf without causing conflicts? Breastplate over chain mail shirt? Cloak and Hood over Leather cap and Steel Helmet?

What combinations should I avoid, to prevent a clothing log-jam?

You probably dug around a Ramp so that it was no longer usable... Ramps need one solid block of stone adjacent to the lower level in order to function properly.

Yes indeed. Magma is certainly a more Dwarfy death than drowning.

I accidentally breached an Aquifer while digging out a magma cistern near the top of my fortress, causing a tidal wave to sweep through the fortress and start pouring down the main stairs. I decided that the most promising emergency damage control measure would be to dig through the wall of the volcano and hope that the interaction between the magma and the flood-waters would be an obsidianized stand-off, allowing me time to bring the flood under control.

It worked... in a manner of speaking... most my Dwarves did not drown.
